Was I too harsh on Ontrack (data recovery) ????

i got another email today but deleted by accident! from the same marketing guy - saying he spoke with his uppers today and they are going to try to make some changes to the site and review what countries they allow CC transaction from as explained and as i had assumed countries not on the list were ones they were not accepting transaction from - usually due to high fraud rates - understandable. and that i can call the 800 number and they will process my order over the phone OnTrack i just say has proven them selves! - but still needs better weekend support

We are constantly looking for ways to improve our web site, and rely on feedback such as yours to do so. Just as an FYI...we made some changes to our e-commerce system some time ago and were required to significantly reduce the number of countries we are able to process credit card transactions for. Some time has passed, and I believe that it is now time to re-evaluate that list. At your urging, I will take it upon myself to personally see that this gets done. Thank you for your feedback. Please let me know if your issue was resolved or if you still need to purchase our software. Thank you, Ronda Kemper Internet Marketing & Database Manager

oh they do - that mathiau@hotmail.com is my address. it is sarcastic more so because i am annoyed that such a larger comapny -that does produce very good products - can not cater to an international customer base and as said - they try to. i mean St Kitts and Nevis? Fiji? - i woudl think Costa Rica would stand out a little more then those 2 islands.

HyperThreading w/ PAT vs dual xeon (ASUS)

Quote: for the purposes of gaming which one is the better performer? Would not matter only handfull of games are MP ready - like Quake 3 i beleive and maybe a handfull of older game - fact is, games dont need that much pwoer to run Quote: for the purposes of desktop muckety muck which one is the better performer? either or - dekstop crud does not use much cpu power - unless u opening a million IE windows and multi apps - then RAM is what matters and if you got 512 or more of anything DDR or Rambus u will be good Quote: for the purposes of 2d graphics like photoshop7 and painter8 which one is the better performer? Dual Xeon's - PS uses dual CPU and Xeon have more cache. Quote: I don't care about 3d. well anyways most 3d apps use MP so again the dual Xeon's would perform better then a P4 with HT Quote: I've heard two conflicting opinions. While XP itself has some kind of support for multiple CPUs do programs have to have their own internal support for multiple processorys to gain from dual xeon? TIA NO, the program has to be made top support MP - most video editing suits will use dual CPU's but most games and general apps wont - this is where hyperthreading could benefit,. but fact is if you using 100% CPU power with P4 HT is useless - dual Xeons - u still got an extra CPU to use and as said - look @ the price tag

Is it worth converting W2003 Server for Workstation use?

Well u can get a 180 trail 2k3 is FAR faster then XP - To enable the features like hardware / themes etc takes what a whole like 10 mins! Xp out of the box usually runs around 100-110mb - 2k3 is more around 80mb by the time it takes you time to tweak XP down to that - u could of had 2k3 installed - running as a workstation and playing your favorite game already. 2k3 is simply faster then Xp PRO and only takes a few mins to turn it into a desktop type system

HOLLY ****, is this for real!

^^^^ they can not fix it in the FX line - they can promise drivers to do this and that but bottom line is, the drivers can not improve where the lack of hardware is. - it would require them to redeisgn the entire! card - which is not worth it for them. SO they as far as i know are "dropping" the fx line as they should and are concentrating on the new NV40 CHIP - i feel sorry for ANYONE who bought an FX - especially those who had a good warning. Your next card SHOULD be an ATI, even after the NV40 is out.

    Gotta Love Linux

it is more likely the hardware then windows..lol asus a7n8x For a start - like alot of AMD systems u need to tweak the mobo before you even install windows! , chaintech geforce fx 5200 , I am sorry, i really feel sorry for you since u bought this card have u grabbd all chipset driver for your mobo? check all setting? i know a few forums i post on have threads about 50 pages long about how to trouble shoot with that particular mobo - i dont htink switching to linux will help - it might because you wont have as many options with your hardware as you do windows. Quote: Now a friend brougtht over by me knoppix -linux I put it into one of my drives , to install it , it read all my hardware then the monitor is blank. some one told me my chaintech geforce fx 5200- agp8x 128ddr vga card need drivers to show the knoppix-linux. Can you tell me what may the real problem ? I went to the chaintech site I get no help. some one please assist me? thanking you in advance. And yet you say it is windows fault that your system freezes and such?

HOLLY ****, is this for real!

well then what about the most recent that NVIDIA has the latest update for the new tomb raider game pulled because it made the NVIDIA card look like crud next to ATI - seem Edios is in NVIDIA's pocket. Doom III will be DX 9 - and it's test showed ATi getting raped by NVIDIA, now it is backwards - but at least they did not say that ATI had to run in DX 8 mode to get good frame rates. Also, the issue with the FX is poor programming on their behalf with crap pixe shader 2.0 and otehr features just poorly writtin on NVIDIA behalf. this FX line is toast - they better hope they get the NV40 out before HL2 is out or they are likely to lose anotehr cycle to ATI.
  22. Mr.Guvernment

HOLLY ****, is this for real!

^^^^ It is a good card - but too bad the issues with Dx9 make it look like crude - or more for what it really is! not sure how accruate they are but the HL2 benchmarks and some other places are now showing that the FX line is not fully Dx9 compatible and it is now suggested that when Dx 9 games come out that if u own and FX card u are asked to run the games ina Dx8 compatibility mode. Sorry, i think i will go with ATI who is actually FULL DX9 compliant. Also not to mention when using 3dmark2003 there are areas in the benchmark that should not be there and is being presumed that once AGAIN NVIDIA is cheating on their drivers but simply because they now encrypt their drivers it is harder to find these new so called "legit" optimizations as NVIDIA puts it.
