  1. actually the AK73PRO is a very stable board, not much of an overclocker though. like i said before, i have the exact same board at work with a 800MHz Duron and can only hit 900MHz, oh well.

i'm too lazy to take the pc apart and test it with another board, my case is extremely small so i would have to take out the PSU prior to removing the HSF/CPU :P

  2. already tried upping the FSB, a simple 4 mhz increase to 104 caused the system to not POST, the voice diagnostics came on saying 'Your VGA card may have a problem' well..so much for that.. Wierd cause I read a review on the AK73PRO over at Anandtech and they had their T-Bird 800 oc'd to 988 (9.5x104 stock core voltage). Well so much for that.

Video Card = Leadtek Gforce2 MX SH Pro

Like I said before though, I did get it to POST and boot up @ 9.5x100 1.850 Vcore, but it would freeze on me within 10 minutes..temperature seemed normat @ 42C maximum. I've seen many posts around with ppl upping the core to 1.9? but 1.850 is the limit on the bios, are there other ways around this?

  3. ok, finally took the plunge and decided to oc my t-bird 800mhz. somehow i'm only able to hit 900mhz at default Vcore. I tried it @ 950mhz (9.5x100) 1.850Vcore and it will boot up but usually freezes out on me within 10minutes of use. One thing I did notice was during post it gives a warning something like :

    CPU voltage detected at 1.725

    CPU voltage set at 1.850

The only bridges I shorted are the L1's, am I supposed to short other bridges for the Vcore?

    T-Bird 800MHz Socket A (200MHz)

    Aopen AK73 Pro

Same thing with the Duron (800MHz) I'm using at work, but it won't even post @ 9.5 multiplier but is stable @900MHz default Vcore. Using same mobo.

  4. nevermind, got it figured out now. booted up using win98 boot disk, then opened up ghost.exe from the write_only folder to make the image file to e:, then ghost.exe from the read_only folder to restore the image back to partition.

  5. hmm..after reading thru the help portion i fiddled around with it and came up with this command line :

    >ghost.exe -CLONE,mode=COPY,src=C:,dst=e:\ghost-backup

    and got this error:

    Error: Cannot open GHOST.ERR

ABORT: 10082, Disk to Disk option disabled

  6. well, i have it on a cd that came with the mobo, and in the directory it has two directories, 'read only' & 'write only' and within both folders is a file 'ghost.exe' that's it, when i tried to execute it, it says that it cannot be runned in NT and need to reboot to DOS to execute it, well, if I do that, it would be pointless as DOS would not see either C: or D: since both being in NTFS.

  7. I'm using Norton Ghost 6.03 that came as bundled software and trying to make a backup, if anybody out there is kind enough to tell me how to do it, i'd appreciate it.

Only have one physical drive with 3 partitions c: & d: are NTFS and e: is FAT32, I guess I should have the backup in e: partiton. So what should I do? I only have ghost.exe in readonly and writeonly. which to use?

  8. i tried to install the latest wdm driver for WinTV (wdm327_20021.exe) and now it won't work frown i even tried to uninstall it and revert back to the old driver and still doesn't work.

when i tried to install the new driver, it asked to reboot, i did, then upon restart, it said xp detected a new hardware and to install the driver, i did, then it says at the end 'invalid data'

Error: can not locate Capture filter (Hauppauge WinTV Capture)

    can not Build Filtergraph

    WinTV Initialization Error

    help!confused

  9. heh, i used to be one of those 'skatepunks' back in the days, i really don't see anything wrong with skating around unless ofcourse they are damaging property. We usually skated during the off hours so never got any hell from anybody, plus we never damaged property and hell, some of the workers would even sat and watched us skate.

anyways...if you REALLY want them off your property, find out what attracts them there, usually some curbs, or a ramp of some sort and alter it so it's not fun to skate there.

but, all in all, let the kids have fun, no need to bully them around.

  10. i'd love to try it out myself, but according to the website, you have to be a member ($95) just to test their preview? that's asking alot aint it? Hell, if i'm paying that just for to be their lab rat, i wonder how much I'll be paying for the final release?

In general, it's a good idea, but if they're gonna start charging the same price as microsoft, then this company will not go far when you can just get linux and wine for free as that's what the linux community is all about.

  11. i have installed xp on 3 different machines, all with nvidia/amd/via combo and have YET to see blue screens..but then again i don't have sb live in any of the system. maybe that's where the problem lies since sb live was a big prob in 2k as well. (i'm just tired of everyone blaming via.) only problem i've had is with counterstrike, it'll open up with just 1/4 of the screen, i'll just press esc. click done, disconnect, then play cs, connect and it works again. oh, only crash i've had was with cs too. i had my pc running for 18days with apache and ftp server and played cs. crashed, oh well.. 18days isn't bad for a microsoft box :P

  12. k, this is not really a XP problem but i figured i'd get more replies here instead. here's the problem:

We have 5 machinese on a small peer2peer network at work. We just purchased a new box and for some strange reason, it's not able to communicate with 2 of the pcs that are on the 10mbps hub. Well..let me show the setup.

    [ADSL Modem]

    |

    [Router/Switch]--|-Port1 PC1(Win98)

    |-Port2 PC2(Win98)

    |-Port3 PC3(WinXP)

    |-Port4 [10mbps hub]--|-Uplink Port

    |-Port1 PC4(Win95)

    |-Port2 PC5(Win98)

Ok, the problem is with PC1, It can only ping/browse PC2 & PC3. PC1 shows up in network neighborhood on PC4 & PC5 but cannot ping/browse. With the exception of PC1, the rest of the network is working fine. I have checked the network settings and everything 'appears' normal, so I'm basically stumped at the moment.

  13. Ok, I have this computer running XP and everytime you start the cpu is running at 100% constantly. I checked task manager and found two programs running that are causing this. AcroRd31.exe and agsubr.exe

now I know AcroRd should be Acrobat Reader but I don't know why it would be using the cpu as no program is running. Well, I went ahead and un-installed the program but it still shows up in task manager on reboot. As for agsubr.exe I haven't a clue except that it's some sort of prefetch program. Can anybody help me with this? It's annoying to have to manually go into task manager and disabling this since this is my dad's pc and well..you know.

    TIA

  14. just a question here, when you go to microsoft updates and get the patches etc. is it really necessary to reboot? or can a simple log out/log in work? i was just wondering since i just updated the system and i really don't want to reboot as i'm trying to see how long i can go without having windows crash on me, so far i've been running for 260hrs now.
