Winoncd 3.8 and EZ creator 5

You should absolutely avoid those programs. They destroy your registry and are not compatible with effective programs like CDRWin 4.0 or Nero Burning Rom. They are almost impossible to remove and a new Windows installation is the only solution to get rid of them. Get them from Adaptec (Roxio offshoot specializes in CD burner software) but beware.

    CD-RW recommendations?

Teac and Ricoh are well known brands with very good access times. Yamaha IDE drives have some sofware problems. Plextor have no major weaknesses but a slow access times.

    Directx8.0a + Sidewinder precission pro 2 USB

Did you try to unplug your USB FF2 and then reinstall the sofware version 4.0? It will attempt to communicate with Ms USB joystick. Did you go to Control PAnel, Joystick, Add and select the Sidewinder (auto detect) line? As for the 3.02 sofware it is not compatible with Windows 2000 Pro.
  8. That is the right command for installation but to play also install patch found here: http://www.irrationalgames.com/shock2/ Also apply the Microsoft QFixApp.exe from Application Compatibility Toolkit both for DirectX version and Windows operating system options.

Is is that damn ACPI problem with SB Live! ????

Most games do not play well when indexing services and programs are active. Microsoft Office puts one initializing program in the Startup directory situated within Programs directories both for yourself and all users. Remove it. Right click on you hard disk and see if there are marks near "Allow indexing service ... for fast file searching".

    Hidden & Dangerous in W2K - WTF?

C-Dilla License Management System does not use standard driver name and it fails in Windows 2000. This patch fixes it for Windows 2000: http://www.daemon-tools.com/Scripts/countdown.pl?CDilla_LMS_Fix_101.zip

Is is that damn ACPI problem with SB Live! ????

One solution, apart from moving from Sound Blaster Live to Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, involves granting an Irq to each device. First uninstall SB Live drivers, then remove the SBL card from computer case. Then try to get rid of ACPI by up[censored] driver from "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC" to "Srandard PC". Go to control Panel and shut down Power Management from Power options panel. then DPMS is deactivated. Disable it in the Bios. Choose Plug and Play: No. and then reset the configuration data. Attribute a different Irq for each PCI port. If needed, use legacy devices Irq choice. Reinstall SB live card in third or fourth slot, depending on your motherboard Irq sharing (AGP and first PCI often share and second PCI is best for network cards). Reinstall Liveware drivers. Go to Device manager, View devices by type to ensure that each device uses its own Irq.

How can I load soundfonts in win2k?

Creative has to be blamed for building incomplete updates. In Windows 98 SE you had to use the initial CD drivers plus two updates just not to be deprived of real Dos compatibility. This is a pain but you need to reinstall the March 2000 Liveware drivers and only then reapply the update. Good news are that Dynamic Soundfont Caching is possible with third party tools, check: http://www.hammersound.net/

    Overclocking Geforce 2 Ultra

I had the same problem with 6.47 Detonators drivers so that may be a characteristic of that series. The 6.62 drivers overclock correctly with coolbits and hardware tab after replacement of NvCpl.dll by the one included with 6.31.

Mechwarrior 4 pausing a lot, sound probs in Everquest

1.5 times physical memory is the norm for Windows 2000. The simplest way to avoid paging file fragmentation is to fix minimum and maximum at the same size. Fragmentation is no problem with regular use of Diskeeper. With 256 Megs Ram, paging file performance should be best at 384. I increased Ram to 512 Megs and adjusted paging file to 800. In practice, I found that paging file adjustment solved the slowdowns in MW4.

Windows 200 by default uses ACPI so many resources are allocated to the same IRQ. Go to System properties, Hardware, Device Manager, Computer and change driver for Standard PC.

Disk I/O error what does this mean????????

There is another possibility. Your problem may lie with the hard disk, Ata 66 or 100 controller or SCSI bios. If Windows 2000 installs its startup files (Ntdetect.com, NTLDR, Boot.ini, etc.) on a partition with more than 1024 cylinders, or accessed only through Ata 66 or Ata 100, it cannot find them at the time of booting the Graphic User interface. You get "A disk read error has occurred." It cannot find them because the Int-13 extension in not active and it needs it to be able to read the hard disk. Also Ata 66 and Ata 100 plus controllers drivers are desactivated by default in Windows 2000 at startup and it cannor read the hard disk. Solution: check your SCSI BIOS and activate INT-13 extensions calls; or install with the hard disk on standard primary controller. Optimally use "Partition Magic 5.0" and re-partition the whole disk. Otherwise use fdisk to the same effect. You may choose fat up to 2 gig, Fat 32 up to 32 gig or NTFS.

Hello, I also find 6.47 drivers with DirectX 8.00 final to be the best: Starlancer plays OK. Since you have a Geforce graphics card, try the following registry hack: http://www.geforcefaq.com/files/iopagelock.reg Pierre

Videologic Sonic Fury and Voyetra Turtle Beach Santa Cruz are the same card: http://www.videologic.com/ProductInfo/SonicFury.htm http://www.voyetra-turtle-beach.com/site/products/santacru/ Videologic offers a lot of bonus software, including Yamaha Softsync XG. A superior card for users of headphones and for DVD playback. It uses downloadable samples (DLS) and not soundfonts (SF2).
