Problems with Soundblaster Live Platinum 5.1

If your modem is wave enabled it should be removed from the motherboard while you install the SoundBlaster software. Choose sound devices in Multimedia panel before putting back the modem because Windows OS often fail to distinguish between Modem and Sound Card.

Problems with Soundblaster Live Platinum 5.1

Just two ideas: move the sound card to slot three on the motherboard, if it has an Irq. Slot one is shared with AGP and slot two may be shared with an ATA controller. Try not to use the CD-Rom and CD-RW as master and slave.

Yellow Lines everywhere with Leadtek Geforce

First check the bios through software with VGABios using a standard Nvidia bios. Zoiah is now at M3DZone so check their files here: http://www.m3dzone.com/files.php?directory=Videocards/NVIDIA/ Extreme overclocking may provoke this or the use of Voodoo 2 SLI cards with loose cables.

    Not detecting hard drive

Windows 2000 cannot detect ATA 66 or ATA 100 when it reboots during installation. Brian Frank offered the best idea: keep it simple amd install on a standard controller. After full installation switch the hard disk to the ATA 100 controller and it will then be recognized by Windows 2000.

    Ground Contol Problems

Safest bet is to keep DirectX 7 while playing the game and later upgrade since DirectX 8 cannot easily be uninstalled from Windows 2000. Nvidia Detonator drivers 7.52 are too good to be put aside and uninstall easily. If you try both, tell us how it goes

    DVD Won't Stay DMA Enabled!

DMA controller and other software foreign to Microsoft appear in C:\Winnt\inf listes as Oem0.inf, Oem1.inf and so on. Check the contents of those files and remove them if they contain busmaster drivers. Uninstall the Busmaster controller from Device manager and restart. Only Windows 2000 files will be reinstated. Of course if the problem is tied to the Iwill KK266 motherboard, waiting for a bios upgrade may take forever. Via busmaster drivers have never resolved this issue. Finally, maybe a full reinstall of Windows 2000 would solve the problem. Once busmaster drivers are corrupted, this is the solution.

    Ground Contol Problems

The Microsoft test in this matter: "Disable DirectDraw in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window: Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type dxdiag, and then click OK. Click the Display tab. Click Disable under DirectX Features (next to DirectDraw Acceleration). When you receive the following warning, click OK: This will disable hardware acceleration of DirectDraw for ALL display devices on your system. It will also make any Direct3D acceleration unavailable. Click Exit."

    Ground Contol Problems

Smacker tools have been around for years and I never heard of a game that did not play because the set installs with the game. By the way, Indeo tools (video and audio streaming) can be downloaded from Ligos to whom Intel sold it more than a year ago: http://www.ligos.com/index.phtml?pi=103 Net Meeting can be uninstalled if you do not use it. It creates lots of bugs. DirectX 8a is fine with Ground Control and runs better than DirectX 7, due to fusion of Direct 3D and Direct Draw functions. Ground Control not running and the box on the screen point to a Direct 3D problem. Maybe checking once more if you have the latest AMD AGP patch and all up to date drivers would be worth it. The 3D graphic engine is certainly involved.

    Intellimouse

I may have misunderstood your intent if you do not wish to switch to a USB port. The i8042 (basic PS/2) driver has already been replaced by the Intellipoint software msi8042 (Intellipoint PS/2) driver. A) If you wish to use a USB port, unplug the mouse uninstall and reinstall the software and then plug the USB mouse. If you just wish to activate the wheel on the PS/2 mouse, find in the Registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters Right click in the right pane, choose New, DWord, name it EnableWheelDetection and change the value to 2 (wheel always enabled).

If there is a line in BIOS about "Mouse function control" set it to auto or disabled to free Irq 12 reserved for PS/2 mouse. It is a feature of Windows 2000 that even during Intellimouse USB use a line about PS/2 mouse will remain in Device nanager with a yellow mark. Is ACPI activated? Check in Device manager under Computer. Does USB use Irq 1?

    DVD Won't Stay DMA Enabled!

Check this page referred to in Technet: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/ http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q151/9/11.asp Via in their FAQ suggests avoiding use of their busmaster driver with Windows 2000.

    DVD Won't Stay DMA Enabled!

There is an IO problem with Iwill KK266 both with Microsoft and Via busmasters drivers: http://www.amdmb.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=26144 Please note that the busmasters drivers cannot be uninstalled from Device Manager. Stubs remain in the inf folder and enum will reinstate them on bootup. A specific removal program is needed or installation of a new busmaster driver that would manage it.

    DVD Won't Stay DMA Enabled!

Try uninstalling the AMD Busmaster Driver and check the difference. Probably on each restart it resets the DVD drive to PIO mode. The same program that installs it can also uninstall when rerun.

    DVD Won't Stay DMA Enabled!

This used to be related exclusively to AMD Busmastering and Via drivers. If I remember correctly, this happened with my Athlon 500 and Gigabyte 7IX motherboard. It was due to the AMD Busmaster Driver. Altough the DMA may be unchecked, the DVD was using UDMA but with a false DMA report. Microsoft has generalized this false report for ATA100 motherboards: "you may notice an incorrect "PIO" value displayed on the Advanced Settings tab for an IDE device in Device Manager. This does not mean that the device is functioning in "PIO" mode. Windows 2000 is displaying an incorrect value.". See http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q260/2/33.asp Whether the DVD operates in DMA, UDMA mode or PIO appears in the Registry under SCSI, since ATAPI drives are controlled through ASPI commands (Advanced SCSI Programming Interface). Check: HKey_Local_Machine, Harware, DeviceMap, Scsi, Scsi Port 0, DMA Enabled (1), same for Scsi Port 1 and so on. Alternatively, you may try the Microsoft DMAcheck program for NT 4 SP3 found here: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q191/7/74.ASP

    Ground Contol Problems

Here is a last attempt to identify the cause, in case it is not a bad CD disc. Use c:\Winnt\system32\dxdiag.exe and run all the DirectX tests. Remove debugs levels and bring Sound Acceleration a notch to the left. In Display properties, Advanced, Troubleshouting also bring Acceleration a notch to the left. Switch graphic resolution to 640x480 at 16 bits. Restart and try to start the game.

    DVD Won't Stay DMA Enabled!

Brian Frank asked a good question. Remember that ATA66 and ATA100 are disabled by default in Windows 2000. Besides Asus CD-ROM are not firmware upgradeable. What motherboard do you have and does it have one or 2 controllers? Which are ATA100 enabled? Did you also enable it for your hard disc with the Maxtor sofware? Did you use the Microsoft HotFix for ATA100? Does your controller firmware allow ATA100? Did you install the latest motherboard BIOS? Go to Start and Run Regedit. First make a backup of your Registry (export). Then check the contents of H_Key_LocalMachine, System, CurrentControlSet, Control, Class, {4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-008002BE10318}, 0000. Read the Driverdesc line, is it Intel82371 AB/EB... written there and do you also have DWORD "EnableUDMA66" present? Then check 0001 and all following entries. The first are the controllers, the rest are the primary and secondary IDE channels. The ATA100 Command Controller should be the only one with "EnableUDMA66" activated (1).

    Ground Contol Problems

Also try running the game as Administrator. This has to do with the defective copy protection scheme on the GC disc. Detection is buggy and may fail if you are not logged in as Administrator. The copy protection scheme also fails with a number of well-known CD-ROMs (Kenwood) until a Firmware update is applied. Check with Via for the latest upgrade to the AGP GART driver (later than the one included in Via 4in1 2.8) which solved problems. Either you need it or an AMD driver so check carefully on both sites for instructions. Last and in despair, apply the application compatibility Toolkit from Microsoft and run QFixApp: http://msdn.microsoft.com/compatibility/act.exe

    DVD Drives with W2K

The Sony DDU 1211 is 12X and 40X, buit in China is OK. I previously had a Sony DDU 220E, 5X and 24X with 75 milliseconds access time, built in Japan, which still works fine after two years. The indicated DVD speed is irrelevant. They all play the same. The CD speed matters. They are very good at reading CD-RW discs. Check digital audio extraction and accurate stream capabilities: they make all the difference: CDSpeed at http://209.15.164.79/
