    tachyon the fringe

Maybe fixing resolution to 16 bits before starting the game will solve the problem. The last Novalogic update "ttfupd8i.zip" includes all previous updates and improves on 3D cards compatibility. The Bink player tool may not be transferring control back to the 3D card for the game. The last version also with smacker update: http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm

    Problem installing Winoncd

There is a recognized conflit with part of the visal basic routines: riche32.dll that is included on Windows 2000. Simplest solution then is to get a necessary GAPI.dll or reinstall riche32.dll from Windows 2000 CD boot disc. http://www.roxio.de/english/support/top5.php3

    Win2k + Soundblaster + NIC + ACPI = studdering

Summary of ACPI: http://www.vaio.sony-europe.com/facts/technology/acpi/info.htm APM Support for Windows 2000 Professional: http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/onnow/apm.htm No Keyboard or Mouse After Installing Logitech 9.0 Mouseware Drivers on Windows 2000: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/...H&SPR=MSALL The change from ACPI to Standard computer or the reverse can be made in a few minutes by up[censored] the driver in Device Manager, Computer. Remove the Logitech mouse filters before doimg so or the change will leave you without mouse and keyboard. Try first to go to Control Panel, Power Management and disable APM from there.

    Win2k + Soundblaster + NIC + ACPI = studdering

ACPI allows use of sleep and standby modes that have been defined by Microsoft as not appropriate or useful for desktop use. That was reading made a long time ago and I have used normal mode ever since. The 2-3 seconds slowdown and stuttering due to ACPI is very troublesome. What are your mouse drivers? That is the single most important factor if you wish to move to standard configuration without reinstalling. The process of recovering mouse and keybowrd control after a quick switch to standard computer altough a bit involved is well documentd by Microsoft.
  7. Of course choose the proper controller that holds your hard disk: 0000 or 0001 etc.
  8. Copy this in Notepad and name it ATA66.reg: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000] "EnableUDMA66"=dword:00000001 Windows 2000 installs with Ata66 deactivated by default. This will insert proper Dword for activation. Check if you brand name drive Website if a program is provided to activate your hard disk to Ata66.

Easy Cd Creator 5 ERROR!!!! Need your brainpower!

Remove CD-RW DMA access and go back to PIO mode for CD-RW to make another attempt at reading that disc. Take Two software is the culprit. Remove it and EZCD 5 will somehow operate with Windows 2000. A fix has been promised by Roxio. Windows 98 and Windows 2000 do not need any software to read UDF 1.5 dics. The Microsoft reader is better. Check Adaptec Roxio Datebase: After installing DirectCD my DVD player will not play DVD discs... Direct CD 3.01, 3.03 or 5 persume to write UDF formatted CD-R. This violates the OSTA norm, contrevenes to UDF 1.5, and to Windows Device Driver specifications: http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/imedia/windowsmedia/sdk/wmdriverreq.asp Windows 2000 Removable Storage Management will also quash it because "RSM will function with third-party UDF write solutions, but no write-once media is supported". http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/storage/RSM.htm Check Windows 2000 Remote Storage Overview document and take note that Remote Storage MAnagement can terminate rogue applications: http://www.microsoft.com/TechNet/mof/Storage%20Management%20v20.htm Beware removal of Easy CD Creator in Windows 2000 (Article Number000505-0000) because CDROM and Recorder may no longer work after removing: "This problem is caused by an association created in the system registry between these specific Adaptec driver files and the CD file system drivers for Windows 2000. If the Adaptec driver files are renamed or removed, then the system will loose access to any CD drive (CD ROM, CD recorder, or DVD)." http://ask.roxio.com/cgi-bin/roxio_tic/s...p;2900=hvwIxd6Z nP For backup of your system files using CD discs, by far the most effective program is "Norton Ghost". For specific backup with compression filling the size of a CD "Zip Backup to CD" is simple and effective. Trying Nero 5.0.4.4 (until Nero 5.5 retail comes out) with InCD 2.08 appears to be a good and safe idea.

Easy Cd Creator 5 ERROR!!!! Need your brainpower!

That is useful knowledge that would be sufficient in case of a UDF formatted disc. Bennybone explains that he then converted the disc to ISO format when ejecting: "made the CD readable with all standard cd rom drive." A further step would be to use the Scandisk utility activated either in Direct CD folder with double click on the tray icon. Direct CD Scandisk could reopen the disc for packet writing. Check also for recovery tool.

Easy Cd Creator 5 ERROR!!!! Need your brainpower!

Install Aspi layer since there is none in Windows 2000: http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/supporteditorial.html?prodkey=ASPI_Layer_Upkeep Remove Take Two software from EZCD 5. Remove anti-virus, Norton Utilities and Undelete. Contact Microsoft to get HotFix from SP2 then wait for Adaptec Roxio fix to enable EZCD 5 compatibility with Windows 2000. Do not use High Speed CD-RW (4X-10X) discs. If you want to uninstall EZCD 5 read this: http://ask.roxio.com/cgi-bin/roxio_tic/s...amp;3=uninstall There also is a patch in Roxio Support Database to restore your Registry files.

    WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING?!

RMS functions are new to Windows 2ooo and this text offers part of an explanation: RSM will interfere with legacy applications. By default, RSM binds exclusively to all media changers on the system. This will break applications that expect to access these changers through other methods. All legacy applications that are changer-aware must be reauthored to access changers through RSM. Disabling RSM control of the device might allow the application to function, but this has not been widely tested and will not be supported by Microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/storage/RSM.htm DVD software and Windows internal DVD media library are still active and repel CD-ROM attempt to media control. This could be attempted: Right click My Computer, choose Manage, open Removable Media, Physical locations, choose DVD-ROM, right clik, choose properties and make desired modifications on General and Components tabs

    CyberLink PowerDVD

I also dropped Power DVD. I had version 2.55 from a bundle with Sony DVD DDU1211 and upgraded to version 3. Windows 2000 was reinstalled two days ago. It worked in both versions only just before I switched to ATA 66 by up[censored] controller software. That failure would point to Power DVD as not yet compatible with contemporary hardware (some of their files are dated 1998). WinDVD had no problem at all. A look at the smoke at beginning of Blade Runner and also at vapor in the roof pursuit in The Matrix shows how superior Alpha Blending comes out with WinDVD also with much superior colors. Still PowerDVD had best control system yet and it is a loss not to be able to compare playing strenghts of each of two programs.

    InCD2

That is interesting because I tried InCD on a clean newly reinstalled Windows 2000 Pro with no CD-RW software, not even Nero 5, only the Aspi drivers (4.60) put on hard disk by WinDVD installation were present. Maybe the message box is misleading and only denotes that InCD will be released with Nero 5.5 in about a week. A test for this matter: get your Nero 5xxx serial number on paper or in a textfile and uninstall both Nero 5.0.4.4 and InCD 2.08. Reboot. Use Adaptec Aspicheck to verify Aspi layer: http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/supporteditorial.html?prodkey=ASPI_Layer_Upkeep Install Aspi layer with Adaptec aspi32.exe: ftp://ftp.adaptec.digisle.net/software_pc/aspi/aspi32.exe Or with ForceAspi17: http://home.onet.co.uk/~cloneclinic/utilities/frcASPI17.zip Reinstall InCD 2.08 first. See the Message box about insertion of your Nero version 5xxxx serial number. When asked by screen identification windows, write in serial no. Reboot, see the tray Icon, put in a Blank CD-RW disc and format.

    InCD2

It works quite well with Windows 2000 but a Nero Burning Rom version 5 serial number must be inserted when required during the installation unless Nero is detected on the hard disk. The full new Nero 5.5 package shall become available around 22, March 2001.

    formating CD-RW's with DirectCD

Two ideas: A) Some other Packet writing software or foreign Aspi drivers conflict: a simple solution is available. Right click on My computer, choose Manage, Device Manager, click View tab, Show hidden devices, expand Non-plug and play drivers and clean up the mess put in there by now unused Packet writing software and their brand name Aspi drivers. Direct Media 7 may have damaged some registry entries necessary for DirectCD: more sophisticated. Check if you find the values "PWD_2K" and "Cdralw2k" in DWord "UpperFilters" here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}] If they are not there, first export your Registry, write this with Notetab: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}] "UpperFilters"=hex(7):50,57,44,5f,32,4b,00,43,64,72,61,6c,77,32,6b,00,00 Save as file DirectCD.reg and double click on this file to insert the correct filters in the Registry.

    formating CD-RW's with DirectCD

Media is not involved being the same on both drives. Sony is one of best writer drives in any & all modes including DAO PW. Software must be responsible or machine configuration. Software can be removed and reinstalled or upgraded but this has manifestly failed. You have to install DirectCD all by itself through its own setup.exe and not as part of another Adaptec, HP or Sony software package. Machine configuration must differ on your computers. Enable or disable DMA for the Sony. Do you use some other Adaptec software like EZCD 5. Roxio admitted it should not work on Windows 2000.

    Force Feedback 2 Joy Stick

Remove, if installed, Sidewinder software 3.02. It does not work in Windows 2000. The Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 should appear twice in Device manager under Human Interface Devices (for USB and Hid driver). I discovered that it was best to install it after all other USB devices in the following order: Intellimouse, Logitech Wingman, Strategic Comander and last Ms FF2 joystick. Do not plug it in USB socket until after the software installation and when required to only at the moment of hardware detection. If it does not work, uninstal and reinstal. There is really nothing else to do and Microsoft offers only this solution but it is truly effective.
