The windows version of Privateer 2 runs alright except it goes as fast as my computer can. When you're landed on the planet it's fine because you get to go through the menus real quick but while in space it's so out of control that there is no way in hell that you can shoot anything because the game is running so fast. Is there any way to fix this? I tried running it with win95 compatibility mode but it did not help. I'm running win2k sp4.

This is a very old Star Trek clone DOS game that uses PC speaker for sound and each time you fire your weapons it freezes (supposed to make a sound then). I tired turnning it with VDMS sound for dos and it does the same. It runs fine if you run it from a dos box on a win95/98 system but not on my win2k system. Applicatoin compatiblity toolkit did not work.

Yes, I tried different color schemes and it did not change the italic text.

I reboot after running my win2k system for about 3 days. Now text on websites (which don't specify text style) is in italics, same goes for the playlist in winamp and a couple other apps. I edit appearance in display options and it does not change anything. I scan hd for viruses and find js_gigger but nothing in the description says anything about text being changed to italics. I remove it reboot and text is the same. Scanned again to make sure and no viruses. I did not install anything that I have not installed before during those 3 days I had the OS running. Never had this kind of problem before...any ideas?

You need to get a no cd crack for it to run. I tried this back on win2k SP1 or 2 and it worked fine.

Well with ACT 1.5 there is no "HandleAPIExceptions" option to check and without it the game does not run in win2k. If I could get ACT 2.5 working on win2k without SP3 then maybe I could get WC4 to work.

I have the DOS version and patched with the WIN95 patch from EA and now when I run I get a popup saying "VirtualProtect() failed." I get that same error using compatibility mode and qfixapp. Any ideas? Btw, the game runs fine on XP, but I hate XP ;(

I'm runnin the windows version and I have tried the compatibility modes. None of them fix the problem.

The Turbo utility slows down the game all right but it makes the sound not work at all or studder every quarter of a second. BTW, On my old P3 600Mhz with Win2k Pro the game sometimes ran at normal speed and sometimes at full speed. I didn't use any utilities then.

Has anyone been able to get GTA1 to run smoothly in win2k pro? At any res I run it keeps on slowing down sometimes. Obviously it is not my computer since I run a AthlonXP 1700+ with a Geforce2 and I've tried it with the same results on a P3 600Mhz win2k system.
