  1. I was wondering how do you get rid of that annoying Warning message (by the clock area) telling you everytime you log in that some device or serivce is incompatible with Windows XP so Windows disabled it. Is there a way to get rid of it? I got that message after installing Adaptec Easy CD creator 4. I think it must be that ASPI driver because after I uninstalled Easy CD creator 4, the message didn't go away.

  2. yeah, right now I have Win2k installed and it is set at: low mouse acceleration and average (middle) speed. For some reason XP's mouse control is weird. Kinda feel like it is on high acceleration and I am having a hard time moving the mouse over small distance. I thought with Mouse precision option on, that would fix moving the small distance problem but it didn't help. I might go and install XP back on to see if your tip helps.

  3. Is it just me or is XP a little bit slow browsing the computers in Network Neighborhood. Is there a way to speed up the process? Right now, when I click on "View Workgroup computers" in Network Neighborhood, it takes like 5-10 seconds to show the computers in my workgroup. In Windows 98 and Win2k this process is a little faster, especially in Windows 98. Then when I click on a computer in my workgroup, it takes awhile to see the folders shared on that computer too.

  4. Ok, the problem with ICQ starting up whenever you log into your account, I am having the same problem. I unchecked the box in ICQ's preference to tell the program that don't start ICQ with Windows startup but ICQ seems to do it anyways. Weird...I have Windows XP 2505 Eval copy.

  5. I have the same problem with nobleknight too. Well...playing on my brother's computer that is. His system has Windows XP and playing Counter-Strike on his computer is not that good. Mouse feels weird like nobleknight said. I like the mouse speed and acceleration setting in Win2k. I wonder why Microsoft didn't do the same with XP. Anyways, I followed what BLooDMaN said and removing SmoothMouse**curve thing from registry doesn't fix the problem.

  6. Well...I think it is time to replace my Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical. I am looking for a really good optical mouse and I was I wondering what do you guys suggest for a really good optical mouse. I play shooting games 90% of the time. Well...more like Counter-Strike. smile

  7. I don't know where to get ASPI manager but the only way I know how to install ASPI manager is to install like Easy CD Creator 4. When you install Easy CD Creator 4, it will install ASPI Manager too. Then if you don't want to keep Easy CD Creator 4, just uninstall it. It won't uninstall ASPI manager though.

  8. Hehe...if I get the same blue screen again, I will try your method. I have tried something like that except I did Auto instead of Manual. This is so strange. I have been running Win2k ever since it got out and I have never experienced this kind of problem with my Intel system. My system seemed stable up to Win2k Service Pack 2. Patches like Code Red and other ones are giving me the problems. Well...those patches installed ok and my system runs fine after installing them but the problems started when I mess around with my system like installing Divx codecs or using a program that changes system registry.

  9. This is strange. I just reinstalled Windows 2000 Professional and installed some security patches in addition to Service Pack 2 and now I am getting blue screen of death right after Windows 2000 Professional screen at the startup. It said something about KMODE exception not handled or something like that. Here is what happened:

    1. I installed Windows 2000

    2. Installed all the drivers for my hardware

    3. Installed Office

    4. Upgraded my IE to 5.5 SP2

    5. Played some Counter-Strike

    6. Went to http://www.microsoft.com and clicked on "Scan your system" to see if there is any security holes in my system (the site made me download some software in order to run scan on my system)

    7. Downloaded some patches recommended from "Scan your system"

    8. Restarted my computer (everything is fine up to here)

    9. Went back to "Scan your system" thing on Microsoft web site (I downloaded the software to scan my system again)

    10. Trying to follow the recommendation made by "Scan your system" I went to Local Security Policy > Local Policies > Security Options and changed Additional Restrictions for anonymous connections to "No access without explicit anonymous connections"

    11. Restarted my computer

Then my Win2k refused to take me to Log-in screen. I get Blue screen everytime right after Win2k Professional logo screen and right before Log-in screen. I've tried doing "Last known successful bootup" thing and it didn't do anything. I've tried booting up with Win2k CD and tried repair Win2k and it didn't help either. So I had to reinstall Win2k again. Right now everything is working fine except without the patches recommended by "Scan your system" thing on Microsoft web site. I think one or more of the patches screwed up my Win2k before. This is the same type of problem I had after installing Code Red virus patch 3 weeks ago before I went with Windows XP. So my question is is there any other way to recover Win2k? Has anyone here experienced the same problem I mentioned above?

  10. Hello, I think there is a problem with Code Red patch. After I installed Code Red patch (both on my Win2k and my brother's Win2k) and then install Divx codec, Win2k give me blue screen at the startup every time and it repeats forever. It happened to me two days ago and now I am using Windows XP. Just an hour ago, I installed Divx codec after installing Code Red patch on my brother's system and now his computer is doing the same thing. Blue screen at the startup and Win2k never reached to the log-in screen. The computer reboots forever. Anyone else having this kind of problem??

  11. Yeah, those Divx movies that Media Player refused to play works with GDivx player and earlier Media Player 6.4 (tried it on another computer with Media Player 6.4 installed). I guess it must be a bug with Windows XP's version of Media Player.

  12. Hello all. I just installed Windows XP Evaluation Copy Build 2505 to check out XP. So far everything is great. Actually, I like XP better than Win2k. I have a small problem. I can't view some Divx movies and I can view some Divx movies perfectly fine. The ones that I can't view, I could hear the sound in the movie but no video at all. But the sound itself isn't perfect. It was laggy. Anyone else having this kind of problem? BTW, I have Divx 3.11 Alpha installed. That codec work perfectly in Win2k for me.
