I dunno how to turn it off, either, but if you find out, please post it. ------------------ "Being married to a programmer is like owning a cat. New OS from Microsoft?

The 'modern' GUI, the mouse, all of that, was developed at PARC (Palo Alto Research Center) labratories. MS and Apple BOTH stole what they have from them. ------------------ "Being married to a programmer is like owning a cat. Favorite Uitlity

PCTools until v. 6, which was a total bugfest. Divide-by-zero errors right on installation. Corrupted FATs. They were is such close competiton with Norton, that they could not have performed any cursory beta testing prior to publishing. Unfortunately, Norton did the same thing right at the same time. End users were screaming their heads off at these (then) two companies. QEMM was fun, but a person could spend entirely too much time trying to get the ultimate configuration with it... Novell DOS 7 (DR DOS 7) was a blast, configuring multitasking under DOS. ------------------ "Being married to a programmer is like owning a cat. MS Trackball Optical SUCKS!! ..or does it?

Hmm...I'm running the same mouse, MS IntelliPoint software, version 3.20.0.484, and not experiencing any of the things you are. Am I wrong in assuming that your mouse is USB, and using a directly powered USB port? I've discovered two things about my mouse: 1. That it is 'finicky' about its settings, just like my old USB Logitech Trackball Marble+. 2. Also just like my old Logitech, it works much better plugged into the USB port on my computer than it does hooked to the USB port on my MS keyboard. Anyway, good luck with yours. I am delighted with mine. It seems to fit my smallish hand better than the Trackman Marble+ (and I very much liked my Marble, in fact, all my past Logitech Trackball mice). ------------------ "Being married to a programmer is like owning a cat. How do I format a floppy FAT32, not FAT?

Quote: Originally posted by oldspice: UPDATE...I guess when you use the same disk over and over the formatting may become unreliable... Heheheh...Yeah, you can corrupt some floppies just by looking at 'em. I wish they'd do away with 1.44MB 3.5" floppy discs completely. They've outlived their purpose now. I notice the new Sony Mavica uses a mini-CDRW... ------------------ "Being married to a programmer is like owning a cat. Discussion an 2416. Anyone tried it yet.

On the same subject, my wife, who once subscribed to the MSDN (or whatever it is now), is going to start doing so again. She has no interest in running Whistler on her machine, but I'm curious about running it on mine. My machine's kinda dated; a PII 333Mhz. But Win2K runs much better and faster on it (especially now with 192MB RAM) than Win9x. The code for Whistler, still being in beta, probably hasn't been optimized for speed yet, so it might make a significant difference in how it operates on my machine. Anyway, that's my guess. Is anyone here presently running Whistler on such a low-end machine, and how is it doing? ------------------ "Being married to a programmer is like owning a cat. Whistler on games !

Quote: Originally posted by Killer_Wolf: ...Can anyone tell me if Whistler is going to be like W2k, in 10 games only 2 can play on W2k? And the beta versions of Whistler, can play games? Where did you get your "2-in-10 games run with Win2K" information? Personal experience? Are the games you play that whacked? Win2K plays an enormous number of games, doing particularly well with newer releases; but you'd be surprised how many older games work straight out of the box or with minor tinkering. Check out DosFreak's list here in ntcompatible. And didn't MS just release about the THIRD compatibility update, mostly games patches? There's a huge difference between what's factual and what is just, "the party line." ------------------ "Being married to a programmer is like owning a cat. whats the big deal with boot times?

Huh? I've been in these forums for a little while, and it seems like it's been some time since we've seen an "Annoyed w/Win2K Boot Time" header. I'm not. Sure, it may be a minor inconvenience needing to reboot on some software and/or hardware installation, but that's really nothing much. So, what's your point? ------------------ "Being married to a programmer is like owning a cat.
