i actually installed the deton. 6.18 drivers yesterday on my win9x setup..and got less fps (2 or so) than in win2k 500cel, 256mg, asus gf2 mx

Gerbache Kaznet : actually i can see the difference between 60hz and 70hz +...happened a couple of times at work that i stopped and upped one of our users hz when he was using 60hz..maybe if you get a machine that displays more than 45 fps you could tell the difference as well..

Jester : i wasnt refering to your system specs at all, i dont judge ppl by what stuff they own, but because you say that disabling vsync leads to a lot of tearing..it doesnt ir you dont oc a lot (most of the time) and in multiplayer games a little tearing doesnt matter compared to the extra fps you get.. (btw ive always had vsynd disabled..v3 and gf2 and a couple of other setups..qw, q3 and ut run just fin)

i havent even installed my pretty new asus mx in win98..i read that most games are pretty similar..i have a similar setup as you..so i wouldnt bother..why would you need maybe 5 fps more? =)

ati are notorious for writing bad drivers i personally use the asus v7100 - gf2 with tv-out works flawlessy and very overclockable... had it for a week now and the comps been on the whole time except for a couple of reboots..stable as a rock

why would you want explorer to use less recources with 512 mb ram? =) thats all it uses more of =)

you might wanna try booting with a dosdisk and putting the whole cdcontens on the hd and install from there (winnt.exe in /i386 somewhere)

1. down8 : cheers =) 2. i think linux Will become bigger all the time due to the fact that once you know linux its a very good WORKstation and in a couple of years prolly a good gameingos as well..and i also believe that ppl are getting tired of ms bull****ing us all the time AND being divide into 2 different companies. as more and more ppl will be online all the time through cheap and high bandwidht connections they will also need more and more safety, which windows just cantgive you. finally, i agree, win2k isnt bad at all and my main workstation os at the time =)

why would anyone run a server on 98se?(u never get below under 50 ms ping no matter what connection youre on) try nt4 (wskt will du just fine) if your low on hd-space
