    Phillip: Updating Email Address

Hmm.. Don't know if it's a board problem, or our security settings at work. But I keep trying to update my email address and it says my profile has been updated and to check for email verification but nothing is being sent through to my new email addy. Also, when I check my profile, my OLD email addy is still there. Is this a known problem? I will try when I return home from work.

    Browser Hijack Nightmare!! HELP!!!

Hi Ali, I know I haven't contributed to this thread, although everything has pretty much been said. But, I have just seen this http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4281.html on the front-page which looks pretty cool (I aint tried it yet, as I am at work, and I can't reg it (it must use another port apart from 8080)). I will try it when I get home. Anyways, just thought you might aswell give it a try too. GL

    Doom III Release Date Guesses?

I see what you are saying about the BIG clues, but wasn't there BIG clues about HL2 and the ATI coupon's? And yeah, I know the source was stolen, but I still don't think HL2 was ready for release when they said it would be (sorry for bringing up HL2..this aint no hijack ) I just hope there are no hiccups, as I have it on pre-order for £19 (Cool price) along with HL2 (on pre-order for 12 months now *ahem*). Off-Topic but the one game I really am excited about is Tribes Vengeance.. I think it will truly rock. I love my vehicles.

    GPEDIT HELL!!!

gpedit refers to Group Policy edit. From what you are saying it seems you are not using 'Active Directory' (correct me if I am wrong). This link will explain procedures better than I ever could. http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/planning/management/groupsteps.asp You seem to be running gpedit locally on a machine, therefore assigning settings locally. 11. Ok, as brief as I can (without confusing myself in the process) I have followed/applied this walkthrough (http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/planning/activedirectory/delegsteps.asp) to our brand new Active Directory structure at work. We have just upgraded from NT4.0 to W2k Server and XP clients. The problem is the resetting of passwords, which we delegate to our operations staff (helpdesk). They can 'reset' a password, but that is all they can do. For instance, they also need to unlock a locked out account, and they also need access to a terminal connection at our servers 'mstsc' (Remote desktop connection). I have made them Print Operators, and Server Operators, but they just don't have the priviledges needed. Anyone care to guide me in the right direction? Cheers

Delegation of roles within Active Directory

Nice one Clutch, much appreciated for the Unlock user. Regarding the Server login and Domain Admins Roles, well, it's a bit of a toughie, but it's going to be up to someone else to give them that right. I will just argue the case against it (security, messing up Active Directory etc). <--Sorry if this sounds confusing but it's a long story. Cheers
  13. I haven't had many dealings with laptops, but I seem to remember there was an update released that concernec laptops Xp and hibernation. Maybe a windows update will sort it.
  14. It is wpa then. The hardware configuration is too different from the last machine. TBH, I only do a ghost of a machine that the image will go back onto. I usually format and reapply the image every six months (spring clean). It would seem that Tomay has and is using a VLK, which would apply to any spec pc.
  15. ook! I wonder if this is part of the wpa?

    Realtime threat alerts via e-mail

Sophos is expensive but it is corporate use only, and you DO get what you pay for, there is no doubt about that. http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/notifications/ This link above will email you every time they release an individual IDE file pertaining a virus release. These emails are always timely and give us an indication of what is to come. If you just want major threats then you could subscribe to Clearswift threatlab alerts http://www.clearswift.com/support/threatlab/default.aspx These don't happen as often as Sophos. You can also add virus news to your intranet (if you have one) or webpage via sophos. This is also free. http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/infofeed/ HTH Yak

It runs like a dog on most systems. Very very poor console port.

Yep, have to agree with Clutch on that one. PerfectDisk is the number one at the moment for XP/2003

  23. I have an adsl router running dhcp for my 2 XP boxes, but I have designated a static ip for my linux box, to enable port forwarding, so as apache will function. This is working fine, but I have one annoyance. I cannot see my webpage from my 2 XP boxes Any ideas? P.S. I am running Mandrake 9.1 rc2. (I will dl final version once the initial buzz has died down)

    Quick question regarding Apache...

Sussed it, with the help of a colleague at work. I have to specify the ip AND port number of the webserver..
