Well I've never had trouble installing DK in Vista so it's not a Vista issue most likely. I believe Installshield has an article on what to do when installers freezes like above but I don't have a link handy. The usual recommendations are to delete all of the files in your TEMP folder. Also make sure your running setup as an administrator. Also try copying all of the files on the CD to your hard drive and start the install from there.

If the game has a setup program then try running that.

Download dependency walker and the debugging tools for Windows http://www.dependencywalker.com/ http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/default.mspx Run the game with each tool and when it errors out look at the output for each program and see where the error is coming from.

heh. You can thank MS for that. They haven't done any development on Defender for a long time and probably never will. I'm guessing their OneCare service is the replacement. I still leave Defender enable on my systems but it's probably not worth the cycles and memory it takes up.

How to Fix spell check in OS in XP

It sounds like your using POP3 instead of IMAP and you didn't select an option opting to keep a copy of your email on hotmail. It's been forever sinc I used Evolution but I'm sure you can copy the data files containing your email over to the Windows partition or keep the data files on a partition accessible to both operating systems and point Evolution there. May I ask why your using Evolution instead of Thunderbird? I know for a fact that Thunderbird data files can be easily used between Windows and Linux.

Any way to remove the Upcoming News forum from the Active Topics?
-
Just use the boot disk, run fdisk, and delete the "non-MS" partition. or download the DOS Ultimate Boot CD which has plenty of format/partitioning tools on it.
-
You can format it all you want but you'll need an OS to put on it. Contact the manufacturer of your computer for a replacement XP CD.

I rate this topic 5 stars! Too bad there isn't anyone around to appreciate it....well except me that is. How's it going with Warp2Search?

The: What Computer Part did you buy this week thread
DosFreak replied to DosFreak's topic in Slack Space
If that seagate gets too hot you should definetly get your hands on the 1tb Western Digital Caviar Green drives. I bought 6 750gb Seagates for my external enclosure and they are quite a bit hotter than the Western Digitals (Tested after copying hundreds of gigabytes of data to the drives). I recently built a file server with 6 of those Western Digital 1TB drives and they are the quietest/coolest drives I've ever had. Hmmm, need to update this thread with the file server I built last month. -
I've tested the demo on 98SE/2000/XP/2003 32 and 64bit and it works fine. Can't get it to work with Vista. What is the problem?
-
Take the hard drive out and put it into your computer. Download the drive diagnostics from the drive manufacturer and run them on the drive.

Ask here: http://win2kgaming.siteburg.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=7

So when you read this thread you downloaded the replacement file that fixes the error you mentioned?
-
Does the install not work or does the actual game not work? What exactly is the issue?
-
Should probably be added to the forum headers and the compatibility list. I personally am not going to do any 2008 testing until I'm done testing XP/2003 64bit so it'll be awhile yet.
-
Have you run any real diagnostics on the drive? Like the HD manufacturers HD diagnostics or the laptop manufacturer's HD diagnostics?
-
You may have to put in an older CPU, update the BIOS, and then put your CPU in. The issue is probably that the BIOS that came with the board doesn't support the newer processor/voltages that you have in there. If it was a RAM issue then the motherboard should beep at you. If it isn't then it is most likely a board/cpu issue. A computer can work just fine without a CMOS battery, it's just that the BIOS would be reset all the time.

EPSXE works fine.

Hey thanks for posting OldCigarette! I don't know if you've seen my compatibility list but you should probably take a look: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=8784 The forum is also the official forum of DosBox and VDMSound and we do alot of work with old games on new computers. You may also want to post about your site at the MSFN forums: http://www.msfn.org/board/forums.html Not too many 2000 users over there though, they are mostly concerned with 9x.

Are you installing from the CD? If so try copying all of the files to your HD. If it still get's hung up then try copying the files to the HD on another computer.
