    Windows 98-SE and DirectX 9.0c

AFAIK, the latest versions install fine in 9x. I installed the NOV 08 Redist in 9x last week. Ask here to make sure: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=8

    Virtualization

Windows 9x isn't ideal for VirtualBox. Use VPC for Windows 9x. Second runner up is Vmware for Windows 9x. Here's the chart I use: DOS games = DOSBox DOS/Windows 9x = Virtual PC Windows 2000+ = Vmware Vmware and Virtual PC are roughly about the same for 9x compatibility but Virtual PC uses an emulated S3 card which gives it a bit better compatibility for old games than the custom video card emulated in VVmware. If you do decide to use Virtual PC then you will need to download the Virtual PC 2004 additions because Virtual PC 2007 doesn't come with additions for 9x. (Vmware comes with 9x additions in a pre2k.iso in the Vmware directory).

Always need to install driver, why? (XPRO)

Are you plugging into different USB ports or the same one each time?

    Windows 7 Public Beta 1

I'm wondering if XP drivers will be allowed like they were with Vista. I know with this beta there are issues with XDDM video drivers but no one knows if MS is going to bother fixing them or just getting rid of XP Video driver support. (Which would leave for example the 915 chipset out in the cold).

Stuck in DOS don't know how to go from here

It's probably incorrect jumper settings. If your sure the hard drive is bootable then unplug all other IDE devices except the HD and see if you can boot from it. (Verify Boot order in BIOS). If it boots then unplug the HD and try to get your CDROM working (leave the XP CD in there), Also Verify the Boot order in the BIOS. Once your computer can boot from the XP CD then you know the CDROM is working. Then try to get both working together. Ideally you'd have the HD as Primary Master and the CDROM as Secondary Slave but if you cannot then make sure that the HD is Primary and the CDROM is secondary on whatever controller you plug them into and that the jumpers on each IDE device are set correctly. As for being stuck in "DOS", your not. What you are currently seeing is your BIOS status screen. "DOS" is an operating system which you do not have installed on your system (Unless you have MS-DOS or Windows 9x on the hard drive of course) Man, I love SATA. No more of this IDE BS.

    Windows 7 Public Beta 1

Looks like Daemon Tools doesn't work. Virtual CloneDrive does though: http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html

    Windows 7 Public Beta 1

Installed it last Friday and played around with the desktop. In the process of making an E5400 my main laptop instead of my XPS M1330 and am going from Windows 2008 on the M1330 to Windows 7 Beta 1 on the E5400. Since the Beta doesn't expire till August I should be good to go. When I installed it on Friday on this E5400 it got stuck running the Windows Experience rating. Turns out the horrible Intel Drivers (Suprise Suprise!) that come with Windows 7 aren't fully DirectX 10 compliant. So I installed the Vista drivers and that seemed to work. If XP drivers work in Windows 7 it seems we'll have 3 different OS Video drivers to install in Windows 7 instead of just 2 for Vista and 1 for XP just to fix video issues. heh. I won't be doing any game compatibility testing until RTM so don't expect to see Windows 7 on my Game Compatibility list any time soon.

I've heard that the DOS ver of LBA2 works fine in DOSBox. Don't know about the Windows version.

Return to Krondor & Betrayal in Antara- can't play

These aren't the most well trafficed forums and the amount of DOSBox users here can probably be counted on one hand. Either VOGONS or Sierra specific forums are your only choices. Betrayal in Antara worked fine the last time I tried it a year? ago. Verify that your are using normal core and at least DOSBox 0.72. Also try the CVS versions of DOSBox.

    Please Help!

NTFS.SYS error is usually a bad HD error. Scan your hard drive with the diagnostics that came with your computer. If none came with your computer then download the "Ultimate Boot CD" which has the diagnostics for each model of hard drive on the CD.

    Hard drive file problem =(

You need to set ownership on the folder. Right-click on the folder, go to properties, and then security and play around in there.

    Running Windows 3.1 in DosBox

You mount your drives from the command line and then launch Windows. Then you navigate to the cdrom drive using Program Manager.

return to castle wolfentstein vista i need help

What kind of video card are you using? You most likely need to install the video card drivers for your video card. P.S. Never EVER put "I need help" in a subject line. EVER.

  16. It's mainly geared for Windows users moving to Linux but it's pretty much just like any other Linux distribution. "Gamers" don't use Linux. "Gamers" use Windows. Yes you can play games on emulators (NES/SNES/PSX, Vmware) and you can play some games in Wine/Cedega but for Windows games it's best to just use Windows. Usually the wikipedia pages for each Linux distro gives a good description of what each is about......

Download the Mechwarrior 2 fix from here and follow the instructions: http://sites.google.com/site/mw2mercxp/ Right-click on mercswin.exe and apply Windows 95 compatibility mode. Also download the "View Distance Modifier" from Mech2.org to increase the view distance.

New Motherboard & SATA 0X0000007B XP Problem

0X0000007B means that XP cannot find your SATA controller. You can either change an option in your BIOS to switch it to IDE or download the SATA drivers for your controller and provide them to XP when you install it. The ideal method is to use Nlite and the drivers from driverspack.net and integrate them into your XP CD so that when you install XP you don't have to do anything.

    Dungeon Keeper 2

Hmm, when you can see the menu try turning off hardware acceleration in the menu and see if that stops it from crashing.

    Dungeon Keeper 2

There should be some command-line switches in the readme where I think you can run the game in 16-bit or 32-bit color. You may want to try those switches.
  24. Bought a AMD Radeon HD 4870 to replace my NVIDIA Geforce 8800GT. Stuck it in last night and watched Dexter S2/Heroes S2 last night so didn't do any benchmarking or play any games to test it out. Also bought 2 WD Velociraptors the week before last and put them in RAID1 to replace my single WD Raptor and WD 500gb drive. These Velociraptors are fast!
