  1. My Creative 5x DVD works ok, but i have this other one that came with the Creative Inlay Card, Voodoo Banshee, and this unknown: DVS DVD-ROM DSR-520H dvd rom. Its a great dvd and all but i'd like to be able to find support for it. That is what you posted before. I'm kind of confused...what DVD drive is giving you probs?
  2. Hmmm...I always have my settings in Windows turned on to show hidden files...could this be the prob? ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run

HOW BIG SHOULD THE SWAP FILE BE ??

The thing is...Windows loves the swap file. Like I said before it'll make a swap file even if you don't need it. So I don't really think it would be a good idea to disable it. There's also another reason not to disable the swap file you never know when some ram guzzling program comes along cough--unreal cough tournament--and complains because you had your swap file set to a max and a min of 128. What I wish someone would make is a program you could use to actually tell Windows what you want to put on the swap file. For instance in NT you can specify an option where you can disable kernel paging thereby decreasing HD access...mabye some bright programmer could make a program to do this? ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run

    can't go in hibernation

Standby and Hibernate are 2 different things. Hibernate needs a certain amount of space to save your currently loaded programs....I'm not sure where it saves everything to on your HD though. How much HD space does your NT drive have free? How much space does your primary partition have free? ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run

    Norton Utilities for Windows 2000

I don't know if anyone's noticed but ummm....shouldn't this thread be moved? I know Norton Utilities isn't a game. (although it should be...I've spent more time with it than alot of games!!!!) ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run

    Norton Utilities for Windows 2000

Although I love Norton Utilities I think finally W2K has grown to the point where you almost don't have to buy a 3rd party utility to fix it. I remember back in my Dos 4.0 days and a program that I could not live without...was it PC Utilities 9.0 or PC TOOLS 9.0? Something like that. Anyways NOW that was a program you NEEDED...these days W2K is almost fine by itself....unless your a Tweak Freak. ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run

    HELP WITH DUAL BOOT

Follow Jerry's advice. Look on your C:\ Partition for BOOT.INI. Take off the Hidden, read-only, system attributes. Then edit boot.ini and add the lines like Jerry say's. This is how I set my system up. Boot with dos disk. Install Millenium Beta 2 Select E:\ Partition for Beta 2 Install. Boot into Millenium. Insert W2K disk, Select C:\ partition for NT. When all the installs are done I have. C:-W2K D:-Second Hard Drive E:-MIL Beta 2 ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run

HOW BIG SHOULD THE SWAP FILE BE ??

I'm going to say something just to keep this funny lil' thread going. We all know that Windows needs a swap file and that if you let Windows manage the swap file that it will constantly shrink and grow. What some of us may not know is that even if you have 8m-768m of ram WINDOWS WILL STILL MAKE A SWAP FILE. Sure the swap file may be only a couple of megs but the swap file is still there. NOW I can see if you have an ungodly amount of memory and if you carefully monitor your swap file using swap file monitoring programs and if you notice that you almost never swap to the disk because of your ungodly amount of ram. Then what the hell stick that swap file on your RAM drive. Heck...if ya think about it it'll also be more secure, since your swap file will not be left behind for sneaks like me to snoop through. ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run

    What's With Freakin OpenGL?

I've noticed people alot lately blaming Microsoft for everything that goes wrong with their computer. OH NO My video is messed up! Must be Windows. Damnit my sound is messed up must be Windows. DAMN! I reformatted my HD and I got bad sectors on my HD....STUPID F&CKING WINDOWS!!! Geesh..people GET A LIFE! Microsoft does not make drivers for your hardware DAMMIT! People should be glad that when they boot it up that they get more than 16colors and don't have to immediatly download the latest drivers. You want new drivers...go pester the lame ass company you bought your crappy hardware from. ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run

Looking for an antivirus program ..........

Norton Antivirus 5.0 for NT works just fine in W2K. I've been using it for months now and suprisingly it hasn't crashed yet. ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run
  14. So is that all you had to do Fargo? Run Update.MSI and then Diskeeperworkstation.MSI and it installed right? Just want to get it straight so when people ask again. (and you know they will ) Yeppeee!! We finally got it working on the final version of W2K! and it's not illegal! ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run
  15. SHS, You can't be serious. The defragmenter that comes with NT5 is a limited version of Executive's Software's Diskeeper. This update updates NT's minimal version to the full blown version. That's like saying that the defragmenter that comes with 95 is better than Norton Speedisk. (95 defragmenter is a minimal version of speedisk....heck it's so slow it seems like symantec slowed it down on purpose )
  16. Ignore my previous post about extracting the Data.cab and puting the files in the NT directory manually...you should not have to do that! Someone with W2K Final plz try out the new method on the previous post! ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run
  17. Okay I installed Installshield Professional 2000 and I snooped through the .MSI files but I didn't really find anything useful. The only thing that might be of interest is that the install of the upgrade has 2 conditions. 1. You must be an Administrator. 2. You must be running 2000. AHA. I JUST FIGURED IT OUT! Ok...earlier when I was messing around with Diskeeper I was installing it a different way but it locked up. So I just did a Ctrl+Alt+del and killed it...but this incomplete install must have messed up the version of Diskeeper on my Windows. Because When I just ran Update.MSI it said it was Uninstalling my previous version of Diskeeper and then it started to install and I am now getting the same errors you guys are getting! Hey for you guys who keep on getting the .CAB error just do a right click on Update.Msi and try to Install it should then Uninstall your previous version of Diskeeper and then it should try to install the latest...but you'll probably get a .CAB error. NOW run the DiskeeperWorkstation.MSI. ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run
  18. Geesh...Just thought of something...Extract the files out of data.cab and manualy replace them into your W2K folders. It might work. I can't test it cause I have W2K and it installs fine for me! Remember to back up your old files! ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run
  19. No..I am installing the exact same file you are and it's working perfectly. I am using RC2. Either: 1: Microsoft changed Diskeeper so it could not be updated. 2: Diskeeper changed their update program so that we can not update. 3. Something is interfering...can you guys try removing your virus scanners and everything else out of memory...I'm getting desperate here I know!. I just downloaded that Installshield crap evaluation..the only problem is I have to wait for Installshield to send me a password just so I can use their Evaluation software! What a lot of crap! If I wasn't at work I would just search the net for a pass or get the full ver...but I'm at work. &&*%&^%$#!!!!!!!! So just hold tight!! I'm working on it! ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run

Will STB ever going to release new drivers????

    WOW. 1.88. ummmmmm....WOW I'm like speechless man. 1.88. That's like Windows 1.0 compared to NT 5.0. That suxs. ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run
  21. Hmmm...What build of W2K are you using...Final? ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run

    EverQuest was working with Win2k.

    You sure you installed Directx7 for W2K? Remember RC2 uses a beta of DX7. ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run
  23. Let's test this out. I have only installed this update on W2K RC2 about a month ago and I just installed a more recent one tonight (although the filename was the same). Everyone please follow these instructions exactly. 1. Go here http://www.execsoft.co.uk/. This update is the same as the US version. 2. Choose FREE UPGRADE OF DISKEEPER 5.03 FOR 5.0 USERS. 3. Choose the 2000 one and hit DOWNLOAD. 4. Fill in the waste of time form. 5. FILL IN ALL THE LINES. 6. Pick 5.03 Server or 5.03 Professional. 7. Uncompress whichever file you need and then right click on the 16885c.msi file and choose INSTALL. 8. If that doesn't work...does anybody know what program makes MSI files? hehehhee. I'm thinking Installshield...If the updates doesn't work I may just try to hack it. Once again I have only installed this on the Technet version of Windows 2000 RC2. ------------------ C:\Dos C:\Dos\Run \Run\Dos\Run
