    Linux & VB.Net

No, this won't work. Mono won't work either. Mono only implements the C# portions of .NET and even then it's nowhere near complete. You're in the same position I am - I'm a VB.NET programmer also but you'll just not have a way to run it in Linux, especially on a slimmed down linux environment.

    Exchange SMTP almost working :-(

Sounds like a DNS issue... could you PM me the domains to check and I will run some checks on them.

    ntfs

Don't bother with enabling write support in the kernel (even 2.6.x)... right now the file size has to be exactly the same, to the byte, before you can write successfully without corruption. Since that's next to impossible, I wouldn't bother.

    Exchange server problem

First of all - was it really necessary to post the same message on six different topics? Second of all - Exchange is a mail server. It is not a POP3 client. Exchange *replaces* your ISP's mail server. If you intend to run a mail server by yourself, Exchange is your man. If you want to download mail from a POP3 client, Exchange is overkill and not what you need. I strongly suggest that if you are planning to implement Exchange in your network that you read up on what it is, what it's for, and what's involved in setting it up. If you intend to replace your POP3 mail server with Exchange, there are other issues to consider like DNS. Without everything working properly, you will get lost and you will get yourself into one hell of a bind. Therefore, I would stop where you are, get out some books and start reading.

    DHCP Error

Does your ISP tie your connectivity to the MAC address of the card? If so, changing from the Dlink to the Win2k3 server will affect this. You'll have to call them back and ask them if they need the mac address. If so, then go to a command prompt and type "ipconfig /all" and tell them the mac address (hardware address) of the card that should be connecting to the net.
  6. You'll have mucho trouble with Exchange. It's a real pain to do an in-place upgrade of Exchange and you cannot have two SBS servers in the same network, so you cannot migrate mailboxes to another machine for an upgrade. I think if I were in your position, I wouldn't do it. Also, if it's an SBS 2003 evaluation, it will eventually expire (probably six months) which means you get to reformat and do something else.

    Urgent Exchange 5.5 help requested

If I remember correctly, you cannot join another domain controller to an SBS network (meaning no BDC). This means you may not be able to join another machine to the domain to run a parallel Exchange...

    how to run xmms??????

Someone should point out that he downloaded a SRC RPM. You want RPM only, not SRC RPM if you plan to install by double-clicking.

    Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate Trouble

I tried going to the game creator's website (www.ssionline.com) and discovered that it is down... I ended up at a domain park. So that rules out any compatibility patches from the game creator's website - you might find a compatibility patch by searching Google, but I have this bad feeling you're not going to be able to play it on 2000.

    Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate Trouble

I just looked around on the net a little and found a review of this game from 1998. If you're trying to run it on Windows 2000, that means you're most likely running into a compatibility problem. Best thing to do is make sure you're on the latest Windows 2000 service pack and all of the compatibility packs are updated. Then, right-click on the shortcut and choose properties. Try to choose a compatibility mode for the game (most likely Windows 98 ). If the game *still* doesn't run with compatibility mode on, you're most likely out of luck and will not be able to play it on 2000.

    Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate Trouble

What you should do is give everyone more information about your system. What OS? What CPU? What amount of RAM? Don't ask a general question like that and expect a vast amount of help.

    HELP! Lost connection overnight!

You have a virus. Quite possibly MSBlast. If both guest accounts were suddenly enabled, I would definitely be suspicious. Did you have any firewall protection on this network before the problems began?

Dungeon Keeper 2 Problem on XP !

Sorry, I don't know where to get the German 1.6 patch. I also don't know of any games like DK2... I love DK2 as much as you and yep, it got me down when the compatibility issues cropped up. They started way back around Win2000.

Dungeon Keeper 2 Problem on XP !

This game is notoriously incompatible with WindowsXP. I actually got it to run with the 1.6 patch, but on systems with the 1.7 patch I get the same symptoms you get. My advice: don't let this take over your life. The game with the 1.7 patch is not compatible and never will be since no one will support the game. You're going to be tearing your hair out for no reason since no company is going to spend the money to make it work. Sorry. My other advice: good grief man, get yourself some RAM. I never, ever allow XP to be installed on anything less than 256mb of RAM and I try to avoid installing it on systems with less than 512mb. I know the minimum system requirements state that 128mb is okie, but you are definitely not seeing the performance you should be seeing.
  15. Actually, recently I installed a Gentoo server while a Mandrake server was running. I ssh'd into the Mandrake server and loaded Gentoo onto a separate hard drive while the Mandrake server was running. After I finished the Gentoo compile/install, I rebooted into Gentoo and bang, it was done. Gotta love it!
  16. Gotta echo the Gentoo sentiment. You can simply select the kernel you want from Gentoo's portage system, emerge it with one statement, put it in the oven and bake it. It doesn't get much simpler than that. I'll never go back to RH, Mandrake, Fedora, or anything. Gentoo's code and people absolutely destroy the other distros.

    Auto Mounting windows partitions

Don't forget that if you're using NTFS on your Windows partitions to put "ntfs" instead of "vfat"... (and make sure the ntfs module is functioning on your kernel... but on most modern distros it's there).

    Gentoo 2CD LiveCD installation.

No, don't go back... don't do it. I actually had to install Gentoo from a Knoppix CD because the 1.4 LiveCD didn't find my promise PDC20276 controller correctly. You might wish to try the gentoo-dev-sources kernel, which is actually kernel 2.6.1. You can compile in support for your controller and that problem will magically go away!

    Gentoo 2CD LiveCD installation.

Did you remember to set your /etc/fstab correctly? Sounds like you didn't comment out the examples or you didn't change them.

    finally but what now?

Update your GAIM version. Microsoft updated the protocol in October and older versions of GAIM will not be allowed to connect to the network.

which flavor of Linux should i get??

Go with Gentoo! I have the same video card as you and it works fine, incidentally

    Fedora Core Revisited

Admiral is right about that, but I've never had the time to let my machine warm over long enough for a stage 1 install (36 hours!). I went with stage 2. Even with stage 2, the performance difference between Gentoo and other distros is outstanding. I also love the package management. I absolutely, positively will *never* go back to RPM-based distros or apt-get utils. The performance gains are just too good.

    Fedora Core Revisited

My advice on Gentoo... do a stage 2 install if you have the time. It will take a lot of time to download/compile all of the packages (unless you have broadband) but in the end... the performance gain over any other Linux distro is HUGE. I now swear by Gentoo... especially their documentation and support community. I've left Mandrake and Red Hat behind for Gentoo and I'm very happy I did it. I think Gentoo runs at least twice as fast as Mandrake does on this machine!

    Installing mandrake 9.2

Better yet... it's not too late to install Gentoo. Very much worth the pain of the install

    Halo (urgent!)

This is not a warez forum. If you don't have the product key, you'd better call the store that sold you the software. You will not receive a product key here and I seriously doubt any other forum will do the same.
