You will have to change the computer type in Device Manager to one of the Multi CPU systems. Or, you could just reinstall and let 2k chose the correct (hopefully) one for you.

Only way you're going to find out, is to do it yourself. What have you got to lose? Just make sure you get the service pack, compatability updates, and of course, the latest patches for any apps/games you wanna use. BIOS updates are also highly recommended if they are available. Then take the plunge You may wanna post your system stats here so we can advise on any forseable hardware issues, if any.

** This is just for those who didn't read my other post.** I'm not sure how many people know of the existence of the EAX patch(s) for UT, but it can't be many by the downlaod count on the page. So here it is.... EAX Patches Make sure you get both pathes. eaxutsys.exe is the main UT EAX fix. uteaxctf.exe is required for full environmental sound in CTF matches. I jstu recently got myself a SB Live Value adn thought, GREAT now I can enjoy better sound in my games and such. For the most part, this is true, but UT gives me the shits! Sound works fine; most of it.... I can't hear the announcer, and can only just make out my own gun fire sounds, sometimes not at all. I've messed around with the advanced settings and the likes, but can;t get it any better. Never say DIE! I did a bit of hunting, and came up with an official EAX patch for UT!! it works great. So all you UT buffs with EAX cards can now utilise them fully. EAX Patches

I've shut down everythign I can find that tries to tie in with IE in any way, but it still won't download track names. I emailed support at tunes.com and they say that they no longer support MS CD player, but that still doesn't explain why CD Blvd doesn't work any more

I fthsoe patches don;t help, join Mplayer adn let it update your software for you. I had to do this with Rogue Spear. It works terrific now!

I managed to get my Roge Spear working by doing the following: Install the latest patches for the game (ignore any errors) Become a MPlayer member. Go to the MPlayer site and let it do all the relevant upgrades to Rogue Spear for you. Try turning Net Connection OFF in winamp settings, that might help ya out a bit

Moray, I had the exact same problem a while ago. It had nothing to do with my modem (model listed below), but actually a setting that my ISP uses. To get around this, goto the properties of you connection, click Networking, and uncheck Enable LCP extensions & Negotiate multi-link for single link connections. Click OK and the try and redial. I was stumped on this for AGES, but this was all I had to do to get the connection active. If this doesn't help you out, then I have no idea sorry. I've seen it fix many connections of friends of mine on various ISP's, so you 'should' get a possitive result Good luck

It's a matter of what you like and what works for you. I use Nero, mainly cause it's the only burning app I can rely on under win2k, and also cause I like the fact that it's not bloated and full of crap like most adaptec burning apps. With 128 MB ram, you should set your page file to min AND max of 192MB or 200 if it makes you feel any better Get a trial version of diskeeper and let it do a pagefile defrag after you set it, this may help

To do this open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon, right click and select New -> String Value. Name it 'KeepRasConnections' (minus the ' '), hit enter and give it the value 1. reboot for it to take effect. Hope this helps out.

Over the last week or so I've been seeing an error I've not come across before. Below is the event viewer account: Source: FTDISK Event ID: 50 {Lost Delayed-Write Data} The system was attempting to transfer file data from buffers to \Device\HarddiskVolume1. The write operation failed, and only some of the data may have been written to the file. Source: Application Popup Event ID: 26 Application popup: Windows - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \Device\HarddiskVolume1\blah\blah.*. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere. These errors happen on both my SCSI and IDE drives. I'm about to revert to a non beta BIOS and hope this may fix the prob, but any other input is much appreciated. If you know this or not, Office SR1 and I presume all later releases disable any versions of office who use serial numbers know to MS as being pirated. What you discribe is typical of the protection it enforces

I had the same problem PsychoSword, or IE would just freeze, with 100% CPU usage, then I'd have to kill it. Easiest fix was to uninstall 5.5. and go back to 5. I think the difference between 5 and 5.5 is pretty small, not as if you get a dozen new features or anything. MS seem to have a weird mentality - We have something that works relatively good, now let's fill it with shit and see if we can get more money outta it!@

WEll, I tried the 7.17 drivers before I upgraded to DX8 and they were slower than your grandmother! They may require DX8 to be installed, but I'm gonna wait till the 7.* series has had a little more time to mature. Anyone else got any info?
