usb device not recognised in Hardware Posted May 15, 2008 Hi People I have the same error message: ”One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it” This is a Toshiba laptop, and it effects all USB ports the same way. The computer was running XP Home originally. When I plug in a USB mouse I get the error, the mouse doesn’t light up and doesn’t work. If I plug in a USB Memory stick XP will Freeze and I have to shut down and restart. I disconnected power and battery to try to reset some memory – it didn’t help. I have uninstalled the USB drivers several times – they auto install successfully. I run Regedit and created a USB Key and a DWORD value called DisableSelectiveSuspend, set that value to “1”. I ran some test program that I found and it says that both Hardware and Software for the USB’s is OK. I formatted the hard drive and installed XP Professional. All the same fault. Finally I upgraded to Vista – and still faulty. Now the USB Memory doesn’t freeze the computer – just get the same error.
