  1. Hi:

I want to streamline my PC as much as possible. Thus, please tell me if removing the following programs from my PC is safe to free up RAM:

    Compaq Organize

    HP Deskjet Preloaded Printer Drivers

    HP PSC & OfficeJet 3.0

    InterVideo WinDVD Creator 2

    InterVideo WinDVD Player

    Memories Disk Creator 2.0

    MusicMatch Jukebox

    RecordNow!

    Photosmart 140, 240, 7200, 7600, 7700, 7900 Series

  2. Negative, Jmmijo and DosFreak. It won't allow me to copy the Microsoft Error Report.

I was only able to copy this:

    C:\DOCUME~1\ERICKC~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\b861_appcompat.txt

Is there a way to open this file up so we can review the technical information?

  3. Unfortunately, copy-and-paste is disabled and thus I cannot share the Microsoft Error Report.

Something tells me that I encounter this error because Windows XP is missing a certain piece of code or file which Windows 95 has. And that's what is causing the error. But because I cannot copy-and-paste the Microsoft Error Report, we'll never know.

It seems that downloading Microsoft's Virtual PC 2007 is my only solution. Do I need to own a copy of the desired Operating System to use it? Or is every obsolete Windows Operating System built into the software? Also, in case you didn't know, Virtual PC 2007 is not compatible for Windows XP Home Edition. But does that mean it won't work? Or just that Microsoft hasn't tested it using XP Home Edition?

  4. Good solution, Peter. And ironically, I planned on it as my last alternative.

If I were to copy-and-paste the Microsoft Error Report here, would somebody be able to decipher it to pinpoint the problem and find a possible solution?

  5. Compatibility Wizard does not solve the problem, either. The game plays perfect until the end of the 1st period. That's when I get a black screen with an accompanying Microsoft Error Report. If I were to copy-and-paste the full Microsoft Error Report, would that be of help?

  6. I am attempting to play NHL Open Ice 2 on 2 Challenge via DOSBox. The game is Windows 95 compatible. Are PC games designed for Windows 95 compatible with DOSBox?

When I input the command to run said game, I encounter the error:

This program cannot run in DOS mode.

Did I do something wrong, or is said game incompatible with DOSBox?

Is Virtual Box an OS emulation program, or do you need to own a licensed copy of the desired OS to run it; e.g., Windows 95?

Do freeware Windows 95/97 emulators exist? If so, where can I download them?

    Your assistance is much appreciated.

  7. 1) I use a Compaq 7550 monitor, and the default screen resolution is 1024 x 768. However, I do have the option of increasing it to the maximum 1600 x 1200. If I do that, will I damage my monitor?

    2) I use a VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP video card, and need to know where I should go to update my older drivers.

As always, any info is greatly appreciated.

  8. Why can I play NHL 99, 2000 and 2001 on Windows XP in 3D Accelerated Mode, but everytime I try to play NHL 98 in 3D Accelerated Mode, the game crashes at the pre-game team match-up screen?

And why are certain black in-game objects partially lime green in Software Renderer Mode?

As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

  9. 3DSetup: NHL 99

    3D Renderer:

    Software Renderer

    Direct3D Device 1

    3DSetup: NHL 2000

    3D Renderer:

    Software Renderer

    Three questions.

Why do I have the Direct3D Device 1 option in 3DSetup: NHL 99 from the drop-down list, but not for 3DSetup: NHL 2000?

Note: I copied the NHL 99 3dsetup file into the NHL 2000 setup folder, but encountered an error.

Is it possible to use the Direct3D Device 1 option as NHL 2000's 3D renderer like NHL 99, and if so how? Or must I use Software Renderer?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  11. According to the NHL 97 Input/Devices, the game is only compatible with a Gravis Gamepad. But, I use an Xbox 360 Wired Controller. Which works for NHL 99 and 2000, but not 97.

Is it possible to use my Xbox 360 Wired Controller w/ NHL 97, or must I purchase a Gravis Gamepad?

    All help is most appreciated.

  12. Dosfreak, will do. So I've heard. I play EA Sports NHL Hockey to NHL 06, religiously.

A new problem has cropped up. According to the NHL 97 Input/Devices, the game is only compatible with a Gravis Gamepad. But, I use an Xbox 360 Wired Controller. And, it works for NHL 99 and 2000, but not 97.

  13. I did what Wilhelmus said. However, after I copied the autoexec.nt file from the repair folder into the system32 folder, and tried to copy the config.nt folder. I received a message stating this folder already contains a "config.nt" file. Would you like to replace the existing file with this one? I chose no. Was that the right decision, or should I replace it?

  14. 3)

    Start->Run:

    Type this and press Enter:

    explorer c:\windows\system32

    System32 folder opens.

Now press [Ctrl+V] to copy those files from repair folder to system32 folder.

Wilhelmus or anybody, do you mean paste those two files from the Repair folder to the System32 folder?

  15. Dosfreak, I just tested NHL 99 in 95 compatibility mode. It does NOT work, and I am receiving the same error message as NHL 2000. Why?

P.S. I am trying to install these games. If that helps.

  16. Dosfreak, of course I'm not being obtuse on purpose. And, I really do appreciate Wilhelmuses, and your sincere attempt to help.

NHL 2001 runs perfect on default XP. Now, your saying NHL 99 will work on XP w/ 95 compatibility. Yet, the so-called Microsoft PC Game Expert claims NHL 2000 and older, will not work on XP. Period.

Do you see why I'm so confused? I'm hearing yes and no.

That's what I'm saying. If NHL 99 and 2001 work, then why won't 2000, when they use the same System Requirements.

Dosfreak, are you telling me that if I do what Wilhelmus said, this will fix the problem for sure?
