Word 2007: Changing a macro icon

Thanks for the reply, SmallSpark. Unfortunately, what I was looking for was how to use custom icons for macros instead of the generic list of maybe 50 that you are currently ONLY allowed to use. In Word 2002, I was using icons which I created for specific macros. Again, thanks for replying.
  2. We've recently replaced our intranet with SharePoint Services 3.0 and are trying to allow external access to the site. ISA Server 2004 is also used. Originally, the old intranet had a separate site on the host server using port 79, which granted limited access while still requiring credentials. The rule in ISA was created to allow this access, which worked flawlessly (using http://board.'>http://board.'>http://board.'>http://board.domainname). However, only one site is used for SharePoint (port 80), so the original rule was altered to point to the new server and to use port 80. We thought this worked at first, as access to the site was granted, but through testing, we found that any subfolders that were attempted to be accessed were not being able to be displayed. The user was still entering http://board.domainname, which was showing the initial page (and each tab's initial page) as http://board.domainname/tab_name. But when going to a subfolder, it would display as http://sharepoint_servername.domainname/default.aspx?RootFolder?yadda_yadda_yadda. This is why the page wasn't being able to be displayed, because the access is granted for http://board.domainname. I've tried adding link transalation entries into the ISA server, using http, http with port, https, and https with port, but I'm still coming up with the same errors. It's definitely a name translation issue, because if you maunally replace sharepoint_servername with board, the correct pages display as they are supposed to, so access to the pages isn't the issue; it's more that board becomes replaced with sharepoint_servername when clicking those subfolders. In addition, if board is manually inserted, any files located in that subfolder (which is now being displayed properly) can be opened without any issue. It looks like it specifically deals with how SharePoint uses addresses to open up subfolders. I've also fooled with the Alternate Access Mappings in SharePoint, but those haven't helped at all, unless I'm not doing that right either. I've poured over documents and forums, but nothing has seemed to work as of yet. Most deal with either it's fully working or not, whereas my issue is that it's insanely close to working, but not fully. Anyone have any experience trying to toy with this? As always, any help is greatly appreciated. If I figure it out on my own, I'll make sure to post here so that if anyone else runs into this problem, they'll at least see a solution or hints.

    SharePoint extranet & ISA 2004

Finally got it working, although it wasn't the exact way that I wanted to go about doing it. We registered sharepoint_server.domainname with the IP of the original board.domainname; this part took a while to activate (4 hours at least), as the world DNS servers had to receive this change. We then made sure that both of those entries were put into the Public Name tab on the ISA rule and changed the listener (although that doesn't seem to have a real affect on anything). Originally, I just wanted to continue using board.domainname, but was having issues when connecting to a subfolder. Board.domainname still works, but if you click on a subfolder, you have to re-enter the credentials again, because it then spits you over to sharepoint_server.domainname. Afterwards, everything works like it's supposed to. Instead, we're asking users to use sharepoint_server.domanname instead, which will prevent them from getting confused when it asks for credentials again. However, there is still an issue that isn't important, but I know users will get both confused and annoyed with it, which means they'll be calling me to fix it. Upon the initial connection, the user is asked three separate times to enter in the credentials. Each time it's entered in, it's correct, but still asks. After the third time (which you would then expect to get an access denied page), the user has proper access to SharePoint. Anyone know how to get rid of this so that it only takes one credentials entry to get in? Before anyone asks, the "remember password" box is definitely checked, and the username/password are present when it prompts on the 2nd and 3rd attempt.
  4. A client using Outlook 2007 is experiencing freezing issues when accessing the domain's global contact list. Personal contacts are not a problem when accessed outside of a new email. When the user starts a new email and clicks either the To... box or the Address Book button on the ribbon, Outlook freezes up. Nothing can be selected in Outlook and the title bar does not display "Not Responding." It just sits there and cannot be moved. The only way to get rid of the window is to close down Outlook in the Task Manager. This is user specific on the affected machine. Any other user logged into that machine does not have this happen. If the user in question is logged into another machine, the issue is not present. I have completely uninstalled Office, removed the directory C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook, rebooted the machine, then reinstalled Office from scratch, but to no avail. CRM client for Outlook has been removed to cross that out. This is a bit of a tricky issue to search for on Microsoft's support site, as well as the rest of the Internet. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. System is running Office 2007 upgrade from Office XP (2002). OS is XP SP2 (we are not upgrading to SP3 due to issues regarding CRM, Dynamics, and possible database data loss, as described by Microsoft; waiting for them to release a patch). Client is in a Microsoft AD domain running Exchange 2003, but I believe this to be solely client side. If you require additional information, let me know and I'll gladly give you what I can. Thanks in advance.
  5. A user last week rebooted her machine to finish applying the MS monthly updates and found that everything in her profile was gone... everything. All of her favorites, desktop items, program listings, all of it was gone. I looked through C:\Documents and Settings\username and foud her desktop items. Loging in and out did not resolve it. Rebooting didn't work, so she said she'd just deal with it. Oddly enough, some of the items returned spontaneously. I tried the fix that MS suggested by creating a new profile and copying things to the new profile, but that didn't fully work either. In fact, the documents that were moved from the old desktop to the new desktop are now gone, and I can't find them. Problem is that this user is a high profile user and needs those files back. Anyone have any suggestions? No matter how stupid they might sound, it could be something that I compeltely looked over, so any help would be appreciated.
  6. Keep in mind that you'll pay a pretty penny for trying to recover that much data... best of luck. I'm in disbelief myself that RAID or backup wasn't set up.

system is stucked with blue screen

Check your IDE cables. This post (http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-526663.php) showed that one responder found it to be a faulty IDE cable.
  8. Honestly, you have to wait more than 3 hours for responses. Have you tried deleting this folder in Safe Mode?
  9. We about to upgrade our network with a gigabit switch and are close to finalizing the purchase, but I'm hung up on the cabling issue. Supposedly, Cat 5 only transmits up to 100mb/s, Cat 5e up to 1000mb/s, and Cat 6 up to 1000mb/s (possible 10k) but at a higher frequency. We're already spending a good chunk of money on the switch, but is it necessary to bump the cabling up to Cat 6? I've been reading article after article after article, but nothing has been completely definitive as to what should be used. Anyone have any expertise on this that they would be willing to share? As always, thanks in advance.

Replacing a broken Dell Inspiron motherboard.

You shouldn't have an issue with your case. However, replacing a motherboard isn't as simple as it sounds. Luckily, the instructions is comes with should make it easier to deal with. The part you may have trouble with is the heatsink/CPU removal. You need to be very careful with doing that, so as to not bend the pins. If you can do this without separating the two, then cool. However, if you have to separate the two, perform the following steps prior to removing them: - turn the machine on and run some CPU intensive applications - after about 10 minutes, shut the machine down and unplug everything from the machine - unlatch the locking mechanism of the heatsink - slightly twist and pull the heatsink off (don't apply too much pressure) If you do this, you'll need to get some Arctic Silver thermal paste to reapply to the heatsink after you get done cleaning both the bottom of the heatsink and the top of the CPU. To be completely honest, you might be better off buying a cheap barebone kit. TigerDirect.com sells them from around $200-$250. Plus, you get additional insurrance on those parts. If you mess up any part of the transfer, you're pretty much screwed and have to replace parts.

    Gigabit Ethernet: Cat 5/5e/6

In case anyone is wondering, 5e and 6 work just fine. We have both and they are operating at 1.0 G/s.

Try flashing the BIOS with an updated version. That might help out with enabling legacy USB support in the BIOS.

    Help me! Mouse not working

Try using a different mouse. If that works, go into your device manager (click Start, right-click My Computer, select properties, click the hardware tab, select Device Manager), expand the Mice section, right-click the mouse and select Uninstall. Reboot your machine. If the mouse still has the same issues and you can't use it, you can use the keyboard and do the above. To get there, hold down the Windows key and hit the Pause|Break button. This will bring up the System Properties window described above. You can use the arrow keys to get to the Hardware tab. Once there, hit the Tab key until you get to the Device Manager button and hit Enter. In the next window, hit Tab until your computer name is highlighted. Use the arrow keys to get down to the Mice section, then hit the right arrow key to expand the selection. Arrow down to the mouse, and hit the menu key (should be inbetween the right Alt and right Ctrl keys; looks like a menu); this does the same as right-clicking the selected item. Arrow down to the Uninstall selection and hit Enter. Follow the instructions by using the Tab key to select options. Reboot your machine. Once fully logged into Windows, plug the original mouse in. Windows will then try to install the hardware. You may be required to reboot afterwards. If that doesn't work, you may just want to use a mouse that works (preferably USB).
  14. I just built my new box ealier this month, and the thing purs like a kitten... kind of. The start up, installation, shutdown and most everything is just amazing. Games play great, until the system randomly freezes. I've almost narrowed it down to gaming online, but haven't tested it out just yet; planning on installing Dawn of War and playing offline to test. At first, I thought it was just with WoW, but now it's happening with UT3... and this is just getting annoying now. I think it's either a conflict with the display adapter, sound, or network adapter. Unfortunately, I cannot change any of the IRQs; was going to change the display to 6, as I don't have a floppy drive. I tried disabling ACPI and switch it to standard PC, but that doesn't help the freeze problem, nor does it allow me to change the IRQs manually. Is there something I need to change in the BIOS to allow me to do this? If it matters, here are the main specs: OS - Windows XP SP3 32-bit (fully patched) CPU - Phenom 2.33 GHz 4x (not overclocked) MOBO - Biostar T-series TF7150U-M7 RAM - 4x1024 @ 800 MHz Video - GeForce 8500GT (512 MB, silent running) HDD - WD Caviar 160 GB 7200 RPM 16 MB PSU - 650w w/ extra-large fan

    Can't change IRQs in XP

After running tests and such, it all came down to one component: the video card... grrr. Only good thing is that I was intending on upgradin the card anyways, so now I have an excuse. I re-enabled ACPI again. Thanks for the tips and tools, everyone. The machine is running beautifully now.

    WSUS 3 & 13042 Error

Thanks for the suggestion, Dacken. Unfortunately, this didn't work for me, as the Selfupdate virtual directory for each site on the server already had "Require secure channel (SSL)" disabled. Looking at the logs, I don't see anything that really sticks out.

    Can't change IRQs in XP

Thanks for the tip on UBCD. I'll try that out in the next few days and let you know what I find. With what you said, is there any reason to keep ACPI disabled? Or should I enable it for ease of use?

    Onboard RAM & Video Cards

I figure this is a good place to get an answer for this. My boss and I were discussing how onboard RAM is affected by a video card. While we both agree that video cards have their own RAM, I've also read about how it will feed off of the onboard RAM, making the OS say that it's only utilizing 3.5 GB of the 4.0 GB that's installed. Essentially, I'd like to get a full 4 GB used by the OS, but we can't find any definitive information regarding this issue, just speculations. Anyone know anything about this? I've got some ideas cooking in the back of my mind in dealing with my newly built box, but this issue is kind of putting a hang on it. As always, thanks in advance.

    Onboard RAM & Video Cards

Well, with that being said, I pose another question: With the provided article even stating that the video card does feed off of the onboard RAM, and the memory hole also sucking some of the potential RAM from the system, could I add (say) 5 GB of RAM to my system, whereby the memory hole and video card and use up some of the onboard RAM, which would allow the OS to use a full 4 GB? I have a Phenom x4 CPU and nVidia GeForce 8500 GT (silent running) on a Biostar board with an nVidia chipset (everything is new, less than a few months old). By what you have stated, my machine should be able to deal with it, but my 32-bit OS can only handle 4 GB. If the answer is no, then how much of a pain would it be to upgrade from a 32-bit to a 64-bit OS? Is it a clean install or a simple upgrade? Thanks to both of you for your responses, as they've been very helpful in aiding me in my understanding of this topic.

    WSUS 3 & 13042 Error

Well, it's been a while since I got anywhere with this, but I caved in again and started digging around. The following sites might be of some help to anyone dealing with this. http://www.eggheadcafe.com/conversation.aspx?messageid=30256762&threadid=30256762 Nothing here helped me, but who knows... it might work for you http://forums.techarena.in/server-update-service/920891.htm This thread talks about having the Selfupdate virtual directory in both the default (or whichever site uses port 80) and the WSUS site. I have it in both and am still getting the 13042 error. Since I have multiple (5) sites potentially running on this one server, do all need to have this virtual directory? Currently, only 3 of them have it: port 80, default (port 82), and WSUS (port 8530/SSL port 8531). Those were the only different leads I found. Will post more if I find any.
  22. Our network uses Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.2 on all servers (2003 and 2000 SP4) and clients (XP SP3). We use the Symantec System Center Console (SSC) to manage and monitor all clients/servers. Whenever a threat is detected, the SSC is supposed to show the a warning/threat icon on the client and its parent server, which helps to know if a virus has been detected. At some point last year (we're uncertain), the SSC stopped displaying the alert icon when a threat was detected. Because of this, we were unaware of any potential threats. Now, I have to pull a threat log of all clients/servers each day to ensure that nothing is at risk. While this isn't a huge chore, the SSC should be functioning properly. All of the updates and sheduled scans are functioning as they should and communication between the clients and servers is not a problem. TCP port 2967 has been set as an exception in the clients' firewalls to allow proper communication. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the SSC, but to no avail. I plan on calling Symantec, but haven't had time for the minimum 3 hours that I know I'll be spending on the phone with them. Was hoping that anyone in here might have encountered this problem before, or possibly have any clues or hints that I may not have thought of or seen before. As always, thanks in advance.
  23. Following up on this, anyone know of malware which would/could disable the feature to display the infected state of each client? Neither my boss nor myself remember unchecking this... why would we? Now I know that there are viruses and malware which attempt to disable AV products, but if there's one out there which can actually disable the SSC's ability to show the infected status, that'd be pure genious... evil, but genious. I'm having trouble searching the net for anything like this. Was wondering if anyone has come across something like this.
  24. Thanks, DavidG. The box was unchecked, but it will take a possible threat to test this out. What's odd is that nothing really changed for the SSC that I can remember; it just stopped doing that. In regards to your issue, are you setup as an admin on your network? I have the SSC installed on my desktop and don't have any problems running those tasks.

    need help with registery problems

You could always reinstall the OS using the installation disk. However, this will wipe your computer completely clean. There are tools out there which you can use to repair your registry, but it's not guarenteed. Make note that before you go toying around with the registry, you should ALWAYS back it up. You can do so by exporting the entire registry to the C: drive. This way, you can restore it to the previous point, even if you can only get into the system via Safe Mode.
