Quick question here. My VCore is set to 1.525 in the BIOS but reads 1.39-1.41 (slight fluctuation) in three seperate programs. SpeedFan, SiSoft Sandra and uGuru (ABIT mobo utility program) I currently have my Pentium D 805 overclocked to 3.7Ghz (185x20) and since I idle at 28C and never get over 40-41C under 100% load for 8 hours I would like to clock a bit higher. Problem being that I dont really want to raise the voltage much over 1.5 and to hit 3.8-4.0 I would have to do so. What I want to know is if I should go by the program's readings of the VCore or the BIOS setting? I dont have a voltage meter and I'm not really interested in buying one for a simple 0.2Ghz. 2.66-3.7 is already pretty good, but I know this chip can go higher.

probably dumb question, but have you tried other compatibility modes?

That is quite strange. Is your card at stock speeds? Did you update to the latest drivers? Is the VGA plug seated securely with no dust in the pins? Is the card seated properly in the slot? Good to double check everything, often it is a quick fix.

Yep. I agree with you, just wanted someone to second my opinion so I dont get nervous seeing 1.575 in the BIOS to be stable at 4.0ghz. Oh, and yes I did flash to the most recent BIOS. It fixed a temperature reading problem, was reading horribly high. PS. I am building a PC for a friend and he is looking into the 7600 GT CO from BFG or eVGA and we are having trouble finding any good comparison reviews. For 145 bucks it seems like a good deal on paper but what do you think of it for gaming? It is between the 7600 (SLi at a later time) or two 6800GT XXX editions in SLi for about 200 bucks total. One for 100 after rebate and one i would order for him to get the rebate. Again, thanks for the reasurrance!

Well I thought that too, right away. But I am running: ABIT NI8 SLi mobo 2x BFG GeForce 6600GT OC's 2x 7200 RPM HDD's 1x DVD-RW Pentium D 805 @ 3.7ghz (Power Hog) Ultra X-Connect 500W PSU. I disconnected the extra HDD, 1 Video card, clocked processor to stock and still the voltages were reading lower than the bios stated. After looking, I found the lowest option in the BIOS is 1.4volts and the processor runs stock at 1.335v. (From Intel Technical Data Sheet) When the processor is at stock speeds and default voltage (auto detect in bios, reads 1.4) speedfan and uGuru report it at 1.33v. So if I want to set an actual voltage of 1.5 would I just set it in the BIOS about 0.07v above (1.57)?? Or is there any other possible problems to worry about?

Does anyone know of a good (recent) in depth overclocking guide? I have been looking around and most are telling me how to overclock the Celeron 133mhz or Pentium 4 2.0 I know the basics but I would like to better understand memory dividers, ratios and some of the more technical aspects of overclocking. Just as a quick update: I got my parts and put the PC together and everything works great! I am using an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and my D 805 is rock solid (Prime95 stable for 48 hours) at 3.8 ghz. I feel I could get a little more out of the processor since it's idling at 28 degrees celcius and never gets over 40 under load. I think I lucked out on a good chip, though my house is usually fairly cool inside. (70-73 degrees F)

Hey all, I have a problem. When I go to delete my old e-mails they wont go away. They go to the deleted mail folder but when I come back in to OE they are back. Anything I can do?

I am running a Pentium D 805 (stock right now) And my motherboard utility (uGuru) is reporting idle temps around 60-70 degrees celcius. It reports a system temp of 25-28 which is fine with me, running 6600 GT's in SLi and 2 HDD's. But my question is, could the motherboard be reporting a bad temp? It doesnt feel unreasonably hot on the side of the heatsink, and SpeedFan reports an idle temp of 35 or so degrees celcius. Motherboard Monitor does not support my mobo so I cant try that program to see what it says. Anyone know what I can do to see if it really is too hot? I have tried reseating the heatsink multiple times and using Arctic Silver 5 with two clean applications tried. Let me know if there is anything I can do to make sure the processor is fine. Thanks!

Anyone have a link to a temperature probe I can place under the heatsink and monitor the temp from the outside?

Did you first uninstall the onboard drivers? If so, trying going into your BIOS (usually by hitting the DEL key repeatedly until you hear a small click and a blue screen with white/red words comes up. Navigate through these options and choose to disable the onboard graphics. Save and Exit. Shut down PC, install the new video card and it should boot to windows normally. It will tell you that XP found new hardware and ask to install drivers. Choose to install them from the CD and you should be on your way!

Yep. Any PSU that is 400Watts+ should work fine. Unless your computer is very old (which it doesnt seem to be) the PSU will be ATX and will fit perfect. Older PC's use AT PSU's but dont worry about that.

Yep, Relic beat me to it for the first answer. It is you PSU that is causing the issue and YES, either of those PSU's will be sufficient to run your PC. Also, just for future reference, the plug on the back of the PSU for you monitor or whatever you want, doesnt take any power away from your PC. It is simply like plugging it into a power strip or surge protector.

Ok, first we need a little more info. You did a great job describing the problem though! Here is what we need: How many watts is your Power Supply Unit (PSU)? It will be on a sticker on the side of the unit, sometimes you have to read a bit of the label to find the wattage. Probably between 250-500. I see on the 6600 you need a 4 pin molex connector to connect to the card. Your PSU should have 4-8 of these connectors running from it. See if you have any that dont connect to any other component and try that on the card. But to me it seems like the PSU isnt giving enough power. So let us know how many watts your current PSU puts out and we can let you know if it is powerful enough to give you what you need! Also include some detailed system specs, like what CPU/RAM/How many HDD's and Optical drives you are running.

Well I am completely comfortable overclocking my 6600 GT OC's in SLi so dont need any info on video cards. But I am overclocking a Pentium D 805 on an ABIT NI8 SLi motherboard with PQI DDR2 PC5400 TURBO memory, dual channel 2x 512. I have done very little memory overclocking and some CPU overclocking. I guess my main concern is messing something up, I have read a few things about the "PCI Lock" and I have no idea what it is or what I have to do to it. I understand the FSB and Multiplier part of overclocking 100%. I just need to find a place to learn about memory ratios (I see people saying things like 1:1, 3:4, 4:3) and dividers (dont fully understand) I once had a great guide bookmarked but have since reformatted and didn't save my bookmarks. It was a fairly recent guide, I think he was OCing a 3200+ and Corsair XMS memory on an ASUS board.

I have never owned an SLI board so I'm not 100% sure how it works!

Thanks! I emailed motherboard and card manufacturer both said roughly the same thing. That the card isn't fast enough to need the SLi bridge But I ended up winning a bid on TWO BFG GeForce 6600 GT OC's on eBay for just under $100 And the GT OC runs much faster than the 6600 or LE editions. CPU/Mobo Video Cards Got two of these off eBay for 45 bucks each Originally was going to go with one 6800GT but for 105 bucks shipped, an SLi setup is too cool not to have in my Antec SuperLanboy with heavy UV mods. DDR2 RAM Ultra X2-Connect 550W PSU 16x Dual layer DVD-RW 56x DVD ROM 2x 160GB SATA Western Digital HDD in RAID 0 New copy of XP Pro Antec SuperLanboy with UV/CC light mods done by myself. Everything look ok?

Well it is a 56x CD-ROM but it can read DVD's also, not sure at what speed. I have used it in multiple PC's so I'm not worried about it not working. I provided a link to the CPU/Motherboard I will be running, a Pentium D 805 and an ABIT NI8 SLi motherboard. I will be using a Thermaltake BigWater SE kit and the processor is the overclocking champ right now. Has been proven stable over 4 GHZ and its uber cheap at only 125 bucks for a dual core. I originally planned on building an AMD platform but the Opteron's dont even start until 280 or so dollars for low end. Not to mention the price of the X2's. It isn't built to be a blazing gaming machine but will be awesome for the games I play. (EverQuest 1, Rise of Legends, Half Life 2, CS:S and so on)

Would be strange if this was the problem, but just to make sure, reseat the RAM and try just one stick in each slot. Make sure all plugs are solid in the mobo, try another monitor, reseat cpu, try any extra parts and try to find exactly what is causing the problem. Also, reset the CMOS and give it a shot. I have seen the problem many times and been lead to many different solutions so more diagnostics must be done to pin point the problem.

Have a quick question here. My PC was originally an eMachines T2879 but basically all that is left of the original is the motherboard and HDD. I have two HDD's but the one running XP is the original that came with the PC. I had a post earlier that we couldnt resolve with replacing a mobo, and I finally determined it as DOA with lots of help and ideas from members. (Thanks!) But here is my main question, if I were to format my HDD (The one with the OS on it) and replace the motherboard, and basically set-up my PC as if it is all new parts, would the Three restore disks and/or 6 disk floppy boot setup be everything I needed to completely reinstall XP? I have the CD key and I have a CD key that eMachines tech support told me to use if the old one didn't work. But I need to know if the disks I have (restore and floppys) will be able to reinstall windows. I have only done repair installs and never tried to install it on a freshly formatted HDD. If not, is there anywhere to get the disks for XP and use my own CD key for very cheap (or free download and burn to CD or something)? Thanks! tool
