    Firefox 1.0

Firefox handles this site better than IE in 2k. Me thinks I am going to install it in my Suse 9.1 Personal. I am not to fond of Klunquerer.

    Why are you running Linux?

And by the way, I think 'they' really did kill my cat (heh heh).

    Why are you running Linux?

I never did voice what I am using when I voted. Suse 9.1 Personal for now. I was disgusted by XP's built in M$ spyware and the 3rd party software squashing behaviour of M$ (M$ supplied mediocre crap, ie: cd writing). I DON'T LIKE OR WANT YOUR NON-WINDOWS APPS BILL! I will be keeping a 2k partition for 'retrotasking' until it becomes obsolete (which is happening at 'light speed'). The only 'stick in the mud' is I can't seem to get 3D working cause I have a chipset Nvidia regards as crap (Apollo Pro 133A). The 2k Nvidia driver 'throttles' the agp back to 2X from 4X. Wish I could do this in Suse! Then at least I would have 3D acc-smeller-ation (heh heh).

    Google vs. Microsoft

Just one more area of IT Bill and friends want to smother and kill. One day they will buy the U.S. government (they have the justice department in their pocket already), then we will all be in big trouble. We will be forced to chant Zeig Bill, Zeig Bill.

Thankyou for your swift reply. Linux uber alles! heh heh
  9. It is widely believed in the psychiatric community, the name of the yet to be released OS (schLonghorn) from Microslop has phallic overtones. "It is equivalent to somebody erecting a huge building to compensate for their [censored]ual inadequacies" says one prominent psychiatrist. "I have been 'screwed' many times by Microslop, so why should this OS be any different (bend over one more time for the 'biggest' one yet)" says another shrink. "I think Bill is lacking in that department physically so he is compensating, the old 'little dog barks the loudest' syndrome" says yet one more doctor of the mind. There is speculation about the name of the OS after schLonghorn, it is rumoured to be iLuvSuckers. Source: Routers
  10. Here is my problem. I want to get away from Microslop Corporaid for good but I have some various video file types of various ages that need certain codecs, etc. I am running 2K sp2 (this is the last M$ product I will ever use) and testing diff flavours of Linux on a seperate partition. Most play in (ack) winDOHs media player, they ALL play in of all things, Real Player 10.0 after many 'updates' and Divx codecs installed. I tried unReal Player in Linux but it performed nowhere near as good as the sin32 version. WHAT IS THE BEST LINUX MEDIA PLAYER (preferably compatible with Suse 9.1 personal, I am liking it best so far) OUT THERE FOR PLAYING VIDEO FILES (I don't care about dvd, etc.)? HEEEEEELLLLLLLP! P.S. I can't be bothered listing all the types but will settle for a player that will play most types. I am willing to scrap a few vids (and Microspy) for the right player. Program and codec download addresses would be helpful (TIA!). My fear is having to keep a 2k partition around just to retro view. My dream is to become totally free of Microsux.

    Agustin's Linux Manuals

Thanks! I was looking for something like that. I am computer savvy but a Linux greenhorn (not to be confused with M$ schLonghorn). heh heh
  12. "Let me explain...it is a whole lot of 'DOHs' (screwups and problems), that is the real reason for the pluralization" claims the new CEO of Microslop. It is rumoured that Homer fell in love with windohs when a hacker popped open his cd tray, which he immediately used for a beer holder. It is also rumoured that he is still trying to get all the 'windoh cleaning' software on the market to do the windows on his house. His daughter Magee is a staunch Linux user. It is rumoured she gave up windohs after many propositions from paedophiles on .NUT. Bart, the eternal 10yr old is still falling off his skate board and has "no comment". It is rumoured Bart's skateboard has a FreeBSD sticker on it. Source: Routers

HELP! What media player for various video types?

Thanks for your responses. I am starting to see that Linux is still no walk in the park (just downloaded MPlayer 1.0 and everything that goes along with it). I can tell you one thing, I will be doing alot of readme and instruction printing BEFORE I get in real deep. Nothing worse than feeling 'stuck'. I tell you something else too, Bill and friends will never kill this kind of community spirit. They must be having nightmares (don't think for two seconds, they don't 'snoop'). I can just see the inter-office memo "this linux thing is growing Bill, how do we crush it too?" "In the near future, windohs users will be pitied and laughed at". (ReFoRMaT 04)

XP is short for Xtra People

XPeePee stands for XP Pro or Xtra Permeated Privacy (heh heh).

Internet set up problem on Mandrake 10.1

I had the same problem with Mandrake. I am on dsl that requires a log on 'name' and pw (PPPoe). I did eventually get it working but the icon in the system tray claimed I 'was not connected to the network'. That sure was strange 'cause I was using the browser testing out the media player at a free sample xxx video site (heh heh). I took mandrake off my machine but if you 'dig' deep enough and find where to put the 'username' and pw, it did get me online with all the other settings still default.
  17. Maybe I should explain with some more detail. When I first used PM8.0 before my Suse install, this is what my drive looked like starting from the 'front' of the drive: [primary(C:2k/6GB)][extended (D:2k_page/1GB)(Linux ext3/20GB)(E:2k_stash50GB)]. I know it doesn't equal 80GB 'cause of file system requirements. Anyway, the mistake I made was telling PM8.0 to format the Linux partition ext3. Just leave it empty like this example: [primary(C:2k)][extended(2k_page)(nothing, zip, deleted logical drive, nada, get it?)(2k_stash)]. Obviously, in the above examples I resized my 'stash' partition to 50 from 70Gigs and moved it to the 'end' of the drive creating a 20Gig 'hole' in the middle. The Suse partition manager will find the empty 'hole' and automatically 'divvy' it up. P.S. Suse likes Reiserfs file system. If the power goes out alot in your area or you have a flakey computer, BACK YOUR STUFF UP BEFORE MOVING ANYTHING AROUND! Suse 9.1 is pretty cool and probably the best Linux yet so it is worth the hassle to check it out.
  18. Leave the other partition empty (no logical drives, etc.), the Suse partion utility (not sure who wrote it, sorry) will find it. Suse likes 'free/empty' space to create its own root (system files), swap (virtual memory just like windohs) and home (your user files) patitions. Suse will install a 'loader' to the master boot record at the start of the drive so you will have to choose what you want to boot to after the Suse install.
  19. Who exactly designed 'cookies' into the browser? I heard windoze95 was sending a list of hardware during online registration already, back then! Why does every version of windoze have more 'holes' than swiss cheese ( http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/computersecurity/2004-09-08-zombieuser_x.htm )? Don't they learn from their mistakes? They don't listen or care about public demand. Microslop is not stupid so this is obviously on purpose. XP is the worst 'phoning home' bunch of M$ spyware yet ( http://www.informit.com/articles/article.asp?p=30697 ) and it is only going to get worse. Figerprint/password hardware has been out for a couple of years now and Microslop are salivating (scroll down to near the end of article http://news.com.com/Gates+Microsoft+to+offer+anti-spyware/2100-7355_3-5393208.html ). It is already XP compatible. Don't be suprised, in the future, you need one of these to just log on to windoze (who will then report to who knows who that you are online and using whatever software). The last people I want having my fingerprint is Microspy Corporation! The Linux genie is out of the bottle. Let's hope it stays there.
  20. I found this site http://www.computerhope.com/unix.htm#05 and am making a book of commands. I highlight just the necessary stuff and paste it to a blank office document. Then I am going to print each one, punch holes in 'em (I have a 3 hole punch) and put them in a binder alphabetically. Now when I wind up in command line h*ll, I might be able to get out of it!

Linux command 'bible' I am making...

Looks like danleff found a better site before me and posted this in another thread: http://www.oreillynet.com/linux/cmd/ I made all the documents for nothing because the above site has 'printer friendly'. Just my luck!

    Microsoft optical mouse problems

That sounds more like a browser glitch. As for the .sh files, I am still pretty 'green' about that kind of stuff. Hardware is more my thing (for now). Open some long office document, etc. and see if the wheel works fine. If it does, then the browser is flakey.

    Microsoft optical mouse problems

Oops! Forgot to mention, in some Linux distros, you have to find the mouse settings and let it know the mouse has a wheel.

    Microsoft optical mouse problems

You forgot to mention if it is plugged into usb or ps/2 and Linux/version you are running because I have an optical/Microslop mouse and the wheel worked fine in Redhat 9.0, Mandrake 10.0 and Suse Personal 9.1 (I can't remember if it worked during the Knoppix 'live' cd session, sorry). Let's not forget, sometimes you have to 'click' down on the wheel so the OS knows you wanna scroll where you clicked.

    Microslop: Godfathers of spam/spyware

We have to get everybody using OpenOffice! Resistance is futile! (heh heh) I am on the brink of turning my back on Microslop for good (except to fix somebody's machine, all the while lecturing them on how bad M$ is). P.S. Not everybody runs out to buy the latest verion of M$ anything. People are already confused, scared and fed up. I will hold out until M$ sends the Software Nazi's (M$ has sent authorities to raid people) to bust down my door and pry the latest distro from my white knuckle clenched fist. (heh heh)
