After getting rudely snubbed by the techs at Atari that they dont support linux (even thoug they do have the linux installer script included) I read in a few sites that the script is messed up, it wants the play disc but it looking through the wrong cd. I have the dvd edition and it says stick in the play disc and im like uhhh its dvd dude, its all on one disc Anyone know how to install this from the dvd version? I copyed all the files to hard disk to avoid the mounting troubles that are caused by it. Apparently it doesnt care where the media is, but it looking through the wrong disc i think DVD consists of 6 folders labled cd1 - cd6 respectively need the names to go with ie cd 1 install cd 2 play? cd 3? cd 4? cd 5? cd 6? or mebbe im totatally clueless

its a script, but the stupid thing installs a bit then says insert cd 2, and im sitting here thinking "um dumbass its a dvd", its all on one disk I have tried copying all data to hard drive in the CD1, CD 2, etc folders and have tried dumping all CD folders into one folder I was reading in another forum about this too, Copy all six disks into one single folder on your hard disk, eg. for the first disk. quote: mkdir /root/ut2k4_installer cd /mnt/cdrom cp -Rv * /root/ut2k4_installer then repeat the last two steps for the 5 remaining disks. You will of course have to un-mount the disk before hand. eg. for unmounting quote: cd umount /mnt/cdrom When all of the copying is done issue the following command: quote: export SETUP_CDROM=/root/ut2k4installer/ then: quote: cd /root/ut2k4installer/ sh linux-installer.sh once the install is done, issue the following comand to reclaim your HD space quote: rm -Rv /root/ut2k4installer/ I dont understand most of what it asking but I did the nautilus file manager and just copied files that way This is soooo confusing

oops sorry i didnt know i was in the hardware forum
  18. "You did replace "nv" with "nvidia"? Did you do urpmi binutils? " It didnt say nv in the file it said vesa (that was the previous driver) so i replaced vesa with nvidia I didnt do the binutils thing because when I reloaded the system after 5 or so times of messing misc stuff up, It never gave me that error. If its working do I still need to do that bin util command?
  19. I guess i changed the right thing but does linux not support 32 bit? i get 24 bit as maximum and oh when i start x it shows an nvidia splash logo before I guess it should be a new post but when i run update all the programs disapear from the menu, and you cant do jack, cant edit the menu or anything.
  20. It ALWAYS crashes after installing the drives, some crash in the XWindows for device it said Driver "vesa" and I chnaged that to nvidia but it said an option below it but i cant tell you what it is caue it crashed and this stupid thing isnt automounting my pendrive anymore sometimes it did that, go in as root and it would automount the drive when i plugged it in
  21. I have the download edition of Mandrake 9.2 Its already set to boot into the text mode, then i have to login and type startx do i need to do everythign you mentioned or is some of that null becaue it already starts in text mode?
  22. er correction when i set up the card during install , it said "vesa" whatever that was but it gave me the resolution i wanted, the geforce fx drivers and other geforce drivers wouldnt give me that.
  23. That exactly the file I'm trying to install. I pooched the install just half hour ago so im truging through reinstall as we speak, i did some updates and it got rid of all the programs in my start menu or whatever you call it in Linux. How do I install that package? I dont know what it would be under, and I had to configure my card as a Geforce rather than the proper version of geforce else i wouldnt have X, and that woulb e baddddd Without laughing too much at me, I've grown tired of Windoze and all its blue screens and irq errors, and ive looked into that I can play my games in Linux so this will be my gaming system , but I need some help getting it set up.
  24. I tried that I logged out of X and logged in a pure root while in the text environment
