    Mentor USB 2.0 PCMCIA Help

Is this a USB or a PCMCIA device? It isn`t clear on the message. It cannot be both. Both interfaces are very slow so do expect lockups and sluggishness for such a device on a slow interface.

    OpticPro 4800P

I would be faster and cheaper to get a new USB Scanner (the Canon LIDe scanners are good) than to try to get your old scanner working with XP.
  5. Uninstall existing Norton products before installing 2005 version.

Sony DVD ROM (DDU 1621) not reading CDs

The multiple 'Compact Disc' entries is the obvious problem. Check device manager and make sure only one DVD drive is shown, could be a driver detection issue. Check Sony's website for any info on this. If there is another DVD listed, disable it and reboot.

    Connecting to a new domain

    1. Make sure Client for MS Networks is installed. 2. Make sure DNS points to the Domain DNS (not some other) 3. Make sure the Computer Name conforms to correct Netbios naming conventions (no strange characters) 4. Delete any existing computer accounts. Or select 'Reset Account' on the a/c before trying to rejoin the PC to the domain.

Sims 2 compatible graphics cards. Is ATI 9200SE OK?

Built in Intel graphics cards are simply too slow for DX 9 3D graphics. They're ok for Office type apps but not Games. I am sure you can get a cheap and faster 3D card on Ebay or go for an ATI 9200 for £100 from shops...

    Untitled thread

It is possible to add custom Page Size by modifying the GPD file stored in the c:\Windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 folder in Notepad. Look for the '* Feature: PaperSize' section and look for CustomSize section and modify appropiate to paper you are using!

Dell Dimension 8200 system board manual?

Option 1 seems faster and with a HD copy program such as Ghost or Drive Image would do it fine.

Sims 2 compatible graphics cards. Is ATI 9200SE OK?

I use an older ATI Radeon 9000 (64MB) and play Doom 3 on it ok, so I think the Sims 2 should work just as well!

    Windows SP2

Maybe you have a slow connection or that the computer is still loading programs in the background delaying the launch of IE. Run MSCONFIG or Check RUN key in Registry or in Startup folder on programs menu for programs that load on startup.

    Win2K Terminal Server

You need to install the Terminal Services client or use the better Remote Desktop client and enter name of the Terminal Services server.

    Office Installation to Terminal Server

You need a special file when installing Office in Terminal Services. Later versions of Office do not require it. See Office Resource Kit for installing it on TS servers.
  18. Boot into safe mode and modify BOOT.INI and add the /BOOTLOG option to the end of the entry for loading Windows 2000. Then you can check the .log file created when you boot up normally. Also, check the System Event Log (eventvwr.msc) for potential reasons for boot failure.

    ad-aware help!

Sounds like you either have the Blaster or Sasser worm on your system. Download latest patches from MS and install Antivirus software! Also, turn on any Firewall you have (install one if you haven`t got one).

    Question regarding Raid 0

The biggest advantage of RAID 0 (Striping) is speed, its faster writing across two disks. The biggest disadvantage is that its not fault tolerant. If either disk fails, then you have lost the lot. RAID 0 is NOT recommended for boot or system disks.

    Boot problems

You MUST use Sysprep (see Deploy.cab file on XP CD), before deploying XP images onto different PCs. This will remove h/w specific information on new PCS so it can auto-detect new h/w when booted.
  24. First download a Windows 98 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com and boot off it. It should load DOS CDROM drivers for you. Then run FDISK and delete any existing Non-Dos partitions, then create a new Primary Partition and format it, then run Setup from Windows Me disk to install Windows.
