In linux i can see both fat32 partitions but only see the files in the one where windows is installed .... very strange I even tried to set the fstab the same for those two and still i can see only the files of one if i go inside it and "ls"

    access denied to partition

Ok.. I wanted to reformat it in any event so I did both my linux partition and my partition where I wanna store my stuff. Both windows and the partition i wanna store things are fat32. I can make them both NTSF if its a clear way how to get this working so i can read those files also in linux. Everything on my comp us currently pretty fresh installed and i dont have anything i even care to backup on any drive. So Id really like to make a good system now so that i can start using it "for real" I tried with my current setup, windows can see the other fat32, and so can linux .. BUT i stored a few files there to check, and linux can not see any files there .. why is that ? Anyway, Id like your advice on how I should set this up best possible. I can change any of the filesystems the way you say, i just dont have enough experience to know whats best here.
  4. It certainly did, I havent had a single lockup/freeze since I changed, which was earlier a big disappointment for me understandable enough Looking like something I like to use here now cause I got the resolution up also which is extremely important IMO. Thanks for the help!

    installing "wine" problems

lol i feel smart now .. i did the "test" with my current setup and it showed that color-thingy also, so i figured that was the "good-news" image I got it to 1280x1024 now, which is my monitors max and what I wanted! woho, finally figured out something

    installing "wine" problems

uh, Im trying out several and testing them .. Sometimes I get "videomode not supported", obviously a bad choice. Other times I get the screen full of colors .. is this a test so i can see that all colors look good etc or is it a sign that I should say 'no' to the questions as in "hell no this is not my desktop" ? It doesnt say anywhere that it will display a test-background or anything so I expected my desktop as the "test-image" .. whats the deal here ? I dont wanna answer Yes in case I end up with the silly color-thing either

    installing "wine" problems

actually many things that I dont really really need.. I guess I can live without it if i can get dc++ running at least.. its one for linux ? i read a howto install thing for it and #1 thing to do was install wine Btw im not able to set my resolution higher than 1024x768... i want higher, and my monitor supports it also .. Its a SyncMaster 172B .. I cant find it in the list when i pull as root : "FXdrake" .. what can i chose instead so i can set up the resolution? [Edited by niels82 on 2004-05-31 04:06:45]

My brain seems to work in slow motion on this subject,I should have thought to post this a month ago.Sorry 'bout that. I actually just reinstalled mandrake 10 and got this problem .. i figured it out though.. reason im posting is that I had to use the arrows to get down to mouse, hit Tab twice to get to the button "configure" then hit enter and chose mouse and test it .. did alot of guessing before I got there

    fedora core 2

Hey I started out with Mandrake 10 not so long ago. I finally found a linux that detected my network and graphic cards after not even getting started with others. However its freezing and locking up on me alot, and im rebooting nonstop. This was also the case during install, did it like 10 times bofore it finally got through.. ugh So now I wanna change, and I am considering Fedora Core 2. Will this be a good or bad idea ? Danleff: you said earlier you had simular cards as me, do you think this will work ? Also, Im sick of burning CD and actually dont have any left right now .. ive wasted tons on these bad linux things that I never got installed as it didnt support what I had. WHat I would like to do is install from hard disk, without burning.. is this possible ? Id like to avoid using floppys also as i hate that and dont understand why they still exist either Would be apprectiated with some tips before i get started so i dont run into 50 walls this times also before i get it running

fedora core 1 - connect to internet

Yeah im going for mandrake. The thing you say about it will ask me what CDs i have, i never get. However I can click Cancel during the installation, instead of putting in CD4. For some reason, it locks up, freeze, at random places. I burned at 4x speed on a high quality CD this time. Sometimes, when lucky, it doesnt lock up during this process. I must have run it about 15 times now lol. Anyway, one time I got to the configuration, and I did configure network card, and it did find it. Ive come to this point several times, and I did the settings you mention here. Also at this stage, it locks up and force be to pull the plug at random places. For example when I chose country once, it froze. Absolutely no idea why this happens. So when I was on a roll, I got through it (somehow). Im not sure if all got set properly, and i guess it didnt, cause the problem now was that it wouldnt boot. Froze when trying to boot the system every time, even though I had loaded the boot things and such in the configuration earlier. I guess its very close (those times im lucky), but I got no idea why it acts this way. (mandrake 10 ce) I will try a few times again now to be sure of the things you mentioned! Thanks alot!

ah geez, now it all went cool until i was almost done, after cd3 it asked for cd4!?!, "if you dont have it press cancel and dont install from this cd" so i press cancel and it all freeze up, and i just had to pull the plug again, darnit!

I can switch to Mandrake 10 ce as you call it .. whats special with "ce"? I actually tried mandrake 10 right before i tried Fedora, but the install just locked up and I had to 'pull the plug' on it every time Guess the download was bad.. Where can i download a good "mandrake 10 ce" then? One of these :http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/ftp.php3 ? Id like to just download iso images so i can burn them on CDs, I dont know what to grab from these open archieves .. Id like to try that instead of you think itll just find my card without problem Just need to get started so I can learn how linux works, dont think it matters a ton which one I start with

card game with my motherboard (NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Adapter) and i got drivers in the CD there at /drivers/all-in-one/linux/ and ive installed this thing .. I also went to system tools or whatever and tried to set it up after. I chose ethernet setup and could chose card 0 (dont remember what linux call them, its xx0,xx1,xx1 like that listed for whatever number of cards you got anyway). So i did this, then tried to activate it, and i get message "Couldnt find card, it might not be present" or simular. I got LAN connection and im using the same hardware writing this with winXP so it is plugged in right etc So why can it not be found now ??
