Can't connect to Linux Share on XP PC

Hu, I see. I'm guessing you are trying to use samba to access a windows 2003 server, right? If this correct, then this requires a different deal or way to access your shares through Samba for win2003/XP. I found these links helpful. I think you can pull out some info: http://www.linuxforum.com/forums/index.p...mp;#entry534086 Also check out this http://asia.cnet.com/enterprise/netadmin/0,39035505,39081966-39000223c-1,00.htm and finally http://mandrake.vmlinuz.ca/bin/view/Main/SambaDomainMember I hope that helps a little. Let us know how it went.

Can some one help me with ADSL With any linux

I'm not sure which distro you are using, but I checked out some sites and accoding to one of them linux doesn't support it, but that must've been back a while ago because This Site says Linux suports this modem. Have you already gone through ADSL/PPPOE configuration. kmenu -> Internet -> Connection -> ADSL/PPPOE configuration. I'm using Mepis so I'm not sure if you have it in your menu, but if you don't have it then install it. I never had to configure a DSL modem under linux, but back in the old days for me when I had DSL modem, the easy way for me was to configure the modem under windows and then added a router to it. Well, if you have windows I'm sure it is already configured so the easy way would be to get a router since routers don't care what OS you have running. This way you don't have to worry again about configuring it again. [Edited by LinuxCrusader on 2005-04-17 03:01:09]

ati tv wonder pro drivers for linux?

Did you already look at this site: http://linux.byte[censored].org/v4l2/cx88.html for drivers. Sorry I can't be much of a help here since I never messed with TV cards. Keep searching though and good luck.

Can't get Call of Duty running

For thanks for trying to help iamroot. My C.O.D. is all legitimate. I wish I could get it running. I don't like switching to windoze just to play it. Dreamwaever mx2004 and C.O.D are the only reasons why I still windoze...just wasting an 80Gig of HD for an OS that is just dozing in my box.

I tried looking for a config file in the wine's root folder, but there's none, so I could change the version of windows to winxp. Tux racer is working fine, but when I execture glx-geaes, it just says command not found, and same thing with GLTRON. another thing, which I don't know if this a new thread, but I did a clamscan and I get that this two files are intected: //home/linuxcrusader/cod/Main/pak5.pk3: Oversized.Zip FOUND //home/linuxcrusader/cod/Main/pak2.pk3: Oversized.Zip FOUND It's probably not a big deal, but I wish I could just get C.O.D. running.

Unfortunately, I'm using an integrated Intel 845GV graphics card. I went to intel's website and download and installed the latest drivers for Linux, but I'm still having the same problem. My screen just blinks and then I get that error.

Unable to install all of linux distribution!

Which distro are you trying to install (Mandrake, Fedora, etc.)? Have you also tried booting your PC with a Linux LiveCD? Go to http://distrowatch.com/ and look into Mepis, knoppix, Ubuntu, etc..all the ones that claim to be liveCDs and this might give a little more info. Another thing the most people make a mistake when installing Linux is if they properly burned the ISO cds. There's another thread around here that talks about this. Loof for Danleff's quick tutorial how to burn your image CDs.
  12. Quote: I read a lot of reviews comparing GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows, and inevitably the topic of installing software comes up. Most reviews indicate that installing software in Windows is much easier than that of the desktop GNU/Linux world. I decided to do my own comparison based on my desktop usage to see the difference. The following are my results. Those of you that come from the Windows world may be a tad bit surprised at the ease in which software can be installed. Just found this article in of the Mepis forums, but I thought I share it with you guys. Read more.

Linux won't install (Both SuSE and Mandrake)

Have you tried booting up your computer with linux liveCDs. I know Mandrake is a really good distro out there, but if I were you I would try booting up your PC with a liveCD out there and see if it works with your computer...if everything went well and you are able to play with it, with the sound, videos, etc., then this means that proably all your hardware was recognized, and you can also install it to your HD if you desired. Visit http://distrowatch.com/ and I would recommend you play with Mepis, knoppix, BeatrIX, morphix, etc...al the ones that are liveCds. Good thing about liveCDs is that they come in only one CD. I'm not trying to evade you from Mandrake since Mandrake is one of my favorites distros nad it is well solid distro also, but my hunch is tellimg me that most likely your video card may have not been recognized. I could be wrong, but hopefully someone else will have a solution to your problem described above. Let us know if you were able to solve it or you are stil having problems. Good luck.

    Help!!!!!!!!!

Hey chuckk3, have you tried googling to find the driver for your printer. Just type something like your printer name and model linux driver. As far as your dial up modem...it sounds like you have one of those winmodems...that are usually dificult to find drivers, but I think there's a post around here that list gives a link to all the linux drivers for dial up modems. What kind of modem do you have?

know how to solve about monitor out of range?

I didn't see that this thread is the same as the other one, but for the sake or keeping threads in one place, I'll just post a linnk to the other one: http://www.linuxcompatible.org/thread31825-1.html

know how to solve about monitor out of range?

First- which distro are you using? Second- Do you have you monitors's user manual in handy for reference...if not just go to the manufacturer's homepage and download the manual. If you are using one of the debian-based distros suchs as knoppix, mepis, etc...you could use the liveCD and replace the XF86Config-4 and XF85Config file, which are located in /etc/x11/ folder. But to make things easy...just read this Thread and do some of the things that they suggest there. I'm not sure which distro you are using and which window manager...but it is KDE, I think you can do some of the things they suggest there. Let us know if you are still having problems or you fixed it.
  18. hehe, you know last night I didn't even look who posted this thread, but this morning I just looked and it is you "iamroot". I don't think I'm qualified to help you (j/k man), but which distro do you are using in which you're having this problem. I think Danleff and Dapper Dan will have to help you with this...hehe It's probably just a codec thing.
  19. What happens when you are trying to play a video or movie straight with the MPlayer interface? Have you tried this...can you hear sound? Can you hear any other sounds in your system, such as when you use XMMS for example. If you can hear sound, then of course your sound server and sounce card are working perfecly fine in your system....otherwise it might just be that your system needs to recognize your sound card. Let us know first what you'v achieved so far.

Can I install Red Hat Linux 9 onmy PC? Please help!

I also like to add that you also have many other options under Linux. Red Hat is just one of them, but if you would like to keep track of all the other options for Linux, you can visit here: http://distrowatch.com/ You will see there a list of the top one hundred Linux distros in there, so you can start getting acquainted with the different names for Linux such as Suse, Mandrake, etc. I think it is a good place to visit for beginners.

Cant find a way to install Mandrake 10.1

Danleff, how about a section for burning DVD ISOs. I think you can download the mandrake's ISO dvd version and burn them as well, right. Just as suggestion.

    it just wont load

I don't think we can tell for sure if your system is going to be faster than on Windows. From my experience I run Maya and Netbeans and it is lightning fast loading up in Linux than in Windows. Not sure why...but Maya takes a while for it load up in the same box but under windows. i386, i686, i586 are refering to your system architecture. I've been lazy to find out what's the real difference because I remember installing and recompiling linux kernels under fedora for i386, but then I run Mepis and Mandrake for i586. Maybe one of these days I'll take the take time to research and find out the reald deal with this. Let us know how your installation went. LC
