  1. Hi, I have currently have windows XP on my 4 year old pc that has a 20Gb hard drive, this does not work particularly well and over the years has gotton a lot of corrupt info on it.

I have purchased a brand new windows XP sp2 and an additional 120GB hard drive.

I would like to use the original 20gb HD for the windows operating system and other programmes and the 120GB hard drive for any documents and files that i save.

I am quite confident in installing the additional HD and then transferring any existing files I have to it, but then i need to install my new copy of XP sp2 to the original 20gb HD. Please can you advise of the proceedure to remove all information from my original 20GB hard drive and do a "clean" install of Windows XP sp2 to it.

    Thanks

  2. I have just reset my Pocket pc and when i try to sync via activesync it says the pocket pc name already exists.

I have deleted the partnership out of active sync and tried the current and a previous name but it still says they exist, .

Where are the names stored so i can completely delete them and set a clean partnership using my pocket pc name that works fine on my work pc.

  3. I do not have USB2, only USB1 but i am assured by the retailer that it works perfecly through USB1.

Do you thinks he is tellin' me porkies.

Is 12Mbps through the carrier too little to play DVDs?

and if so will it at least be enough to write and re write?

    Thanks for your help

  4. I dont have the speed of my regular DVD player but the burner speeds are as follows;-

    16 x read and 16 x write - (single layer)and 2.4x write (double layer) 4 x rewrite for DVD+RW/+Rand 48x (read) 32x write CDRW.

The spec of the caddy is as follows:-

    Rate: USB2.0 (480Mbps) USB1.1 (12Mbps)

    Interface: USB2.0 A,B

    Cooling: internal fan

Hope this is enough info to diagnose the problem.

  5. It s not my intention to use it for watching DVDs i only tried a DVD in it to see if it was working/connected properly.

I have yet to use it for burning, but because it would not play the DVD properly I wondered if it would write and rewrite ok.

  7. Hi I have just purchased an internal Aopen DVD rewiter mounted in a Safecom portable case,(ready assembled), I have not used it for writing yet but have tried playing a DVD on it, Everything seems to operate OK but as soon as the DVD has a lot of sound and graphics at the same time (eg a concert) the sound stutters and the graphics flicker. It cannot cope. it even freezes on occasions.

I have tried the playing DVD in my read only DVD drive and it is fine , I am using Cyberlink PowerDVD 5 which came bundled with the player it all runs through a USB, the company that supplied the equipment said it might be a compatability issue and renewed the rewriter drive just in case it was faulty.

I am running XP pro , 1.1 AMD athlon processor , 384mb cache.

    hope you can help

  8. The PC I am asking about doesnt have a cd writer or internet access so I am a little wary of reformatting the drive due to losing any existing drivers.

Is there a way that te original setup which is listed above as WINNT can be deleted and the good version of XP left on which works fine apart from having to choose that option on startup.

  9. Hi

    does this help?

    [boot loader]

    timeout=30

    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT

    [operating systems]

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

  10. I am certain i have installed a second copy.

The original XP goes to a ctrl alt del login box when selected at startup and I can login as my admin login from work.

The (second) copy goes straight to normal desktop and doesn't require a login which is the one i prefer to use.

This PC is an ex work PC which was given to my children, it did work as part of a network which i wanted to cancel , This is why I reinstalled XP.

I am unsure as to the meaning of boot.ini (sorry im a bit of a layman at this).

  11. I have recently re installed xp pro on my pc and unfortunatley i have re installed it instead of replaced it, I now have two lots of xp installed which obviously takes up space and also makes me choose which to use on start up, two versions of xp pro or xp pro safe.

please will you tell me how to delete one version or how to completely remove both and start from scratch.

    Thanks
