You know what, I think you're right
Ow well, a computer and it's software and hardware is complex enough to give everyone its own interests.. programmers, common users, designers, etc etc

I admit, I'm a WIndows user who likes Linux a lot!!
It's running very smooth...
But....
Why are those error mesaages so damn cryptic when installing from source code???
-
Ok, the error I get when compiling a program is:
X Windows include files missing
Kernel Version Running 2.4.21-99-default
Found Kernel Source Directory ()
grep: /.config: No such file or directory
scripts/setup.sh: line 116: [: -eq: unary operator expected
Using SuSE 9.0.

You're right!
It's an Atmel chipsite...
But when I try to compile, I get this error: X include missing.. or at least the X include as the error message...
Any Ideas?>

ok..
It stops around hda ... bla ... hdb... . I/O message and after this it hangs. mdk 9.2 rc2
mandrake 9.1 / rh.. . it suddenly reboots or hangs without any message..
right afer the Uncompressing kernel at the beginning

Hi, no hard feelings
Sometimes I can be very euhw, 'unclear' If you know what I mean.
Anyhow, if I boot from CD, I can choose the Working kernel,
but after mdk installation has been completed, it uses the not working kernel.
And I have no idea how to choose another kernel via the bootloader.
And if this is possible, what bootloader would you recommend and what paramaters and btw, what distro are you using?
This problem of mine occurs with Mandrake 9.1/9.2 . RH. Lycoris

Bootloader???
I can't BOOT linux so how can I change any config file at all???
Ok, when I installed linux, reboot, bootloader.. choosing an option and it doesn't matter wich one cause my system hangs after choosing an option to boot......
-
When I boot the Mandrake 9.x cd, and press Enter, it tries to run kernel 2.2.24 (mandrake 9.1 and 9.2rc) and my system crashes.
If I choose to boot with the alt kernel, 2.2.18 or 2.2.19, everything goes well but when I reboot after the installation proces, it's still trying to boot with 2.2.24 and.... system hang when booting... almost directly.
So, how can I make sure, mandrake keeps booting with 2.2.18/19 instead of the newer one??
PLEASE HELP.
THANKS!!

Hi there..
I heard, that MS won't allow any other Instant Messengers to logon to their network, starting octobre 15th (somewhere around this date).
So here's my querstion;
Does anyone know another Linux MSN messenger?
I saw that Trillian is paying MS for a license so they can continue to devolope software, pay software for the customer. But I haven't see a Linux version of it...
I rather choose to continue using Linux, but almost everyone I know is using a MSN 6.x Client for Windows or Mac... currently it isn't a problem, but after
a month, it will be a problem....
Sorry for my englisch...
It's late and I haven't got much sleep last few nigts

It happens when I follow your instructuons. . .
MDK automatically mounts the cdrom and HD partition but can't find that image file.
-
Ok, booting from cd to access harddisk almost works..
except for this question;
Please enter the directory (iso or image file) containing
the Mandrake Linux Distribution.
what's the path????

THanks for the detailed info!
As soon as I tried it, I'll let you know

Hi
When I install Linux from my cd using the 2.4.21,
my system hangs. I tried different bios config,
nothing works.
But when I use alt1 (2.4.19) kernel, the whole installation proces runs smoothly but after the installation, mandrake uses the 2.4.21 kernel again which gaves me a lot of trouble while booting my system.
How can I tell mandrake to keep using the old one after installation has been completed???
Thanks in advance! 8)

Is there nobody with an answer to this or a solution ??

When I'm booting up the install cd from one of those two distro's,
the system hangs directly or reboot by itself...
Can anyone help me ??
I already played around in the bios, turned off plug&play feature,
nothing seems to help.

P III 733, soltek mainboard, ati radeon8500le, 512 mb sdram
