Quote: http://akamaidownload.apple.com/530x3824/akform.html What, were you waiting for Steve Jobs to hand you the disc himself? That would have been nice. I am pissed because they didn't release an update for the 2nd generation Windows iPods to play AAC encoded files making the music store useless to me. There are probably more windows users around using this then the 3rd generation.

I am looking for a free email service with decent storage size. I have looked at hushmail but it only allows 2MB or service. Any other suggestions?

Quote: i want to work on both my laptop and desktop. when i get home id like to sync the files from my laptop with the files on the desktop but not having to copy them individually!! I'd be using m home network! any ideas? preferably free ones !! RF I'm sure there are applications out there that let you sync folders. I don't know much about writing .bat scripts but it shouldn't be to difficult to write one that woudl compare the timestamps of each file and copy the one sthat are newer.

Is there any way to run a batch file before the NT bootloader kicks in? I am dual boot boot linux and want to do something to the effect of "if f:\linux.bin exists, move to c:\lniux.bin" before the bootloader has the opportunity to load c:\linux.bin. Is this possible?

Run Script Before Bootloader
ViolentGreen replied to ViolentGreen's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Quote: I don't think it's possible (and I don't think any other boot loader can do that either), but why not just add c:\linux.bin (or f:\linux.bin) as an option in boot.ini? AndyF Well I prefer not to keep it on F: for other reasons. I am optimizing my linux kernel. The idea here is that when I recompile the kernel, I run a script to configure lilo and copy the boot sector to the F drive. I want to be able to reboot into linux without having to go into windows and copy the file to the c drive. Now that I have typed it up, I guess I could temporarily point the bootloader to the F drive while I am still optimizing. That's what I'll probably do. -
A good firewall program can tell you if programs are sending/receiving data and allow you to block them as well. A lot of people swear against i but I have been happ with zone alarm pro.

I have several CD-Rs of backed up mp3s. I recently went to combine those cds to DVD-R. When I try to copy from my cd to my hard disk, I get a message saying that it failed the CRC. The problem files are read fine in winamp so wherever the error is, it must not be anything major. Anyone know how to bypass the CRC?

And both those links are littered throughout the forum.

with the new cds coming out that install software without your permission via autoplay, I want to disable it. I know I have seen the option somewhere before but i can't seem to find it now. Anyone know?

Quote: I think that TweakUI for XP has this option too Thats probably where I saw it. I don't think I checked there when I was last looking. Anyway, I did it though the registry and am happy now.

I have had mandrake 9.0 installed in my VAIO laptop for some time now. For reasons I don't want to get into, I have had to reinstall both windows and mandrake. For some reason now I am having trouble getting X to work properly. I have my video card selected correctly and my monitor set as a flat panel 1280x1024. When I start X, the screen flashes. There is a white box in the top left corner. After a few seconds and gnome loads I can make out the taskbar but it's stretched to about half of the screen. I examined the config file and tried disabling glx and some other stuff to no avail. I don have the config file on me right now but I did notice one of the lines in it appears to be setting a resolution of 1024x4xx (some number in the 400s). It is the section right above where it sets the video resolution. Is this normal? If that isn't the problem any idea what it might be? I could post my config file tonight if that would be of help. Thanks

Quote: Start regedit from Run then System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom] Value Name: Autorun Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value) Value Data: (0=disable, 1=enable) OK. I'll try that. I thought there was an option to do it without editing the registry. I might be thinking of 98 though. Thanks for the reply

Quote: I am starting to think maybe its a swap file issue. I have the 30gb hard drive and I have 2.3 gig's left on it. I am wondering now if there isnt enough room on my hard drive? I dont know, worth a try though since I am running out of options fast. That should be more then enough room for 98. 12 GB drives were very common in OEM machines with 98. 2.3 GB should be fine.

Quote: Hi can anyone out there help me? the text on most website's has gone incredibly small so i cant read them? this only started hasppening about 2 weeks ago and it is really annoying! i've tried updateing everything!!!!!!! Do you have a mouse with a wheel? If so the easiest thing to do is hold down control and move the wheel up. That might be how you got the problem in the first place. You can also got to View -> Text Size

It would be well worth your effort to do a little research on how to secure the network.

Quote: Copy all the MPQs to your HD, the game will not access them on the CD. Won't I still need the cd to load the program?
-
Actually, I have found a solution for the problem. I am guessing there is some kind of defect on my cd. If I load everything up and start the game, then remove the cd from the drive, it works fine.

Well I have had this board for about 6 months now and I am finally encountering the infamous sound crackling problems? Has anyone found a solution to this? I am hoping not to have to deal with the insanity and morons at the nforcershq forum.
-
Quote: tell me how that worked for ya, Im curious to know if it works in general or just on my board... It seems to have worked. I havn't experienced the crackling since I tried that. I havn't used it all that much but I tested it out with soem music and it sounded fine.

Windows XP and search......
ViolentGreen replied to RavishingRocket's topic in Everything New Technology
It sounds to me like it is not set to search subfolders. There's a setting in the search options to allow this. -
Quote: do this it should get rid of the crackling probs: In the Mixer change the Routing Volumes to the following: Original Sound: 50-60% Reverb: 15% Chorus: 55% This will get rid of the crackling, Ive had the board since late march early april and have not had a crackling problem since I started using these vaules. I made a picture too if you want to get a better look at what Im talking about http://home.midsouth.rr.com/thc129/changes.JPG Thanks; I'll try that. I haven't had the motivation to download the newest bios.

Program that monitors changes to files & registry?
ViolentGreen replied to Curley_Boy's topic in Everything New Technology
Hmmm. Didn't 98 have a feature like that? Nowhere near that advanced though. It was useful if you'd run it on a regular basis, especially before and after installing and uninstalling. -
Guys what is the best way to scan for trojans on my computer

Quote: bypass CRC? Why on earth would you ever want to do so? That's like not using ECC ram because non-ECC is slightly faster. If you like errors then use an overclocked AMD.. or just an AMD it sounds like either the CDR itself is damaged or your reader doesn't like the CD. Are you using a standard CD reader or are you using the SAME CDwriter used to author the CD? There are a few utilities that "bypass" the default failed read timeout and slow down the read device to incrementally read off the files. Offhand I cannot recall the names but a google search for something like "read damaged CDs" might help. I realize I have a problem with the cdr; thats why I want to bypas the CRC. Like I said, the file reads fine in winamp so whatever the error is, it's not major enough to mess up the file. I want the file on my hard drive and I don't care if a bit or two are wrong. And yes, I am using the same drive I used to create it.

Quote: yet another reason to avoid zonealarm like the plague. you'll likely experience fun problems trying to get any other software firewall to work. Actually, that wasn't my problem. I am very happy with zone alarm and everyone else I know is as well.
