I have been experiencing the most torrid computing problems for the past one month. My computer is roughly 4 years old, and it usually runs 24 hours a day. A month ago the SMPS /power went bust, and I got it replaced with a new device. For 10 days; everything went fine until the computer mysteriously started rebooting of its own, in the middle of work. I have dual boot windows XP SP1 and 98 and the rebooting happened with both the OS. The frequency was anything from 2 minutes to 2 hours. There was no blue screen, and no dumps, no errors since it wasn’t a crash; but it was like someone just hit the reset key. There were also couple of occasions when the computer didn’t start at all – The monitor instead of lighting up went into power saving mode and the HD light showed a hang [constant red LED indicator] state. I thought; perhaps it had got something to do with the new SMPS and I again got it replaced. Once again; I experienced no problems for 10 days; the computer was up and running 24 hours. And then, from the past 2 days I am plagued with the same problem. Computer restarts of its own without a damn explanation. The chances of any virus on my computer is very very remote; as I always use latest antivirus. Where could the problem lie………also I have noticed that the monitor power off and HD LED constant red situations have increased in frequency. I have to often switch on/off the computer multiple times to even get the computer to start. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I hope it is not my MB because that would mean virtually replacing my entire system

Hi Comp. Specs P-IV Intel Chipset 1.8Mhz Intel motherboard D845GEBV2 512 MB Ram ATI Radeon 7500 with 128 Mb video ram Win XP SP1 Seagate 80Gigs IDE 7200 LG DVD ROM BENQ 1650 DVD Writer For the past 3 weeks, my computer keeps hanging and restarting of its own at random intervals. The computer was performing well until the 3rd of march, when I bought a BENQ DW 1650 DVD Writer. I replaced it with my old LG CD writer. It installed perfectly well, it was a simple plug and play device. When I restarted the computer after a few hours, after startup the system suddenly hanged. This had never happened for the past 2.5 yrs when I have been using this computer. On a cold restart, I got the error message [might not be 100% accurate as I hadn’t noted it down but I am trying to recall “Your computer has recovered from a serious error. A direct draw function could not be performed by the graphics card.” In the event log, I got this”…… Error code 000000ea, parameter1 817538e8, parameter2 81742a88, parameter3 818a01d8, parameter4 00000001. I have also noticed that sometimes the computer hangs of its own [does not restart and is not involved with any 1003 error] Instead I get this error The IPSEC Services service terminated with the following error: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions. Source: Service control manager Event ID 7023 Category None This error is even more frequent, I get it almost every two days, the computer hangs while downloading stuff from the net. This error has started occuring after i installed the DSL connection. Apart from that, the computer functions absolutely normally while playing games, movies, etc……… Can someone guide me, to fix this problem without formatting my computer? I am pretty desperate Regards, P.S. -> is there anyway to attach my minidumps here?

I have a dual boot machine machine with win98se and win xp sp1 I installed win98se only to play my old games. So far I have seen for past 3 months that only a few games (1998-2001) run which didn't in win xp but the dos games run most unsatisfactorily. One can use vdmsound in xp. 1. For most dos games, I have to restart in MS DOS mode and graphics are extremely poor (they run much better in an old 386) 2. I can't use mouse then (ms optical wheel mouse). Where can I find a dos mouse driver 3. No sound; where can I get old drivers 4. Games like Mortal Kombat Trilogy refuse to run because can't find some SVGA chip? 5. Can someone provide any answers Thanks in advance
