    AMD XP motherboards

Quote: Hi! I'm gonna upgrade my k6-3 machine with the new amd xp 2500+ processor and I would like to know what is the best board for my new machine, any based on nforce2 chipset or based in other chipsets that has drect support in kernel, and not only by a pre-compiled modules? Give your oppinio or post links with the linux reviews (don't post winblow$ based reviews)... thanks! Damn I removed my system specs....I am running a Dual Athon 1900+ board (Asus) now with a G4 Ti 4600 and 1 Gig of RAM (PC-333) , latest NVIDIA Drivers for Linux. Dos Games under Linux - Use DosBox!

Quote: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1 Now some of you may be asking why use DosBox when I can use DosEmu or Vmware? Well the answer is: Vmware is not dedicated to gaming. DosBox is. DosBox is primarilly for gaming. Vmware Dos video mode support is terrible. Vmware Sound support is terrible. Vmware Memory Management is terrible. DosBox only emulates what it has to for the games. That's it and it's better for it! As for DosEmu? DosEmu is so ancient that it isn't even funny. You might say that DosEmu has better DPMI support...well you'd be right as far as released binaries go but currently DPMI is being beta tested (Latest CVS has the code) and DosBox has pretty much surpassed DosEmu there. So check it out if you love Dos games then DosBox is the way to go both for Linux and Windows. WineX does a much better job than either, and is made specifically for gaming. I have quite a collection of Win32 Games running now. Including a lot of the latest games....AND most of the best DOS games are now Linux Native. Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem, ROTT....etc. I am not tryiing to slam you...just my opinion.

What's the best webcam for RedHat 9?

Quote: I'm not trying to setup any camera. I'm trying to know what USB webcam can be installed and used with RedHat 9 with no need to setup or install drivers, i.e. that could be recognized by RedHat 9 rightaway. Plug and Play. I know for sure that USB Logitech Quickcam cannot. It demands to download and install a driver. Why were you cutting and pasting a bunch of USB info then ? I would check the HWCL at RH then or do a google search on the Forums, you might find your answer there. I am only trying to help you solve this problem Just out of curiousity, if you are aware how well Mandrake runs, why are you still using Rh ? I know a few ppl running RH, and thier lives are not much better, you would be better off running Slackware or SuSE.

What's the best webcam for RedHat 9?

Quote: Gnomemeeting doesn't recognize the camera under RedHat 9. Gnomemeeting recognizes the camera under Mandrake 9.1 One thing you didn't mention was the type of WebCam you are currently trying to setup in RH ?

What's the best webcam for RedHat 9?

Quote: I guess we are diverting from the main point... anyways, yes I have usbview and it indicates the presence of a camera, although it does not specify which camera is. It provides the following information: Camera Speed: 12Mb/s (full) USB Version: 1.10 Device Class: ff(vend.) Device Subclass: ff Device Protocol: ff Maximum Default Endpoint Size: 8 Number of Configurations: 1 Vendor Id: 046d Product Id: 0870 Revision Number: 1.00 Config Number: 1 Number of Interfaces: 1 Attributes: 80 MaxPower Needed: 90mA Interface Number: 0 Name: (none) Alternate Number: 0 Class: ff(vend.) Sub Class: 0 Protocol: 0 Number of Endpoints: 2 Endpoint Address: 81 Direction: in Attribute: 1 Type: Isoc Max Packet Size: 0 Interval: 1ms Endpoint Address: 82 Direction: in Attribute: 3 Type: Int. Max Packet Size: 1 Interval: 16ms Interface Number: 0 Name: (none) Alternate Number: 1 Class: ff(vend.) Sub Class: 0 Protocol: 0 Number of Endpoints: 2 Endpoint Address: 81 Direction: in Attribute: 1 Type: Isoc Max Packet Size: 1023 Interval: 1ms Endpoint Address: 82 Direction: in Attribute: 3 Type: Int. Max Packet Size: 1 Interval: 16ms There's no driver for that camera in RedHat 9 as it is in Mandrake and I'm afraid that usbview cannot help to provide that driver... So, back to my question again, I would like to know what webcamera is recognized by RedHat 9 rightaway, without the need of installing a driver and do extra configuration. Just as the way Mandrake does. Thank you, I get the same thing with my Logitech, it doesn't say it is a Logitech. Just ignore it. If you see it in USB Viewer, then it has been detected it and added it to the list of USB Devices. When you install GnomeMeeting, you will see detects it and you have video, audio, and you can talk to others online. Great thing about USB No drivers, no extra configuration. I got this Webcam because it is the most compatible with most distros, and it is is cheap.

What's the best webcam for RedHat 9?

Quote: I know that Mandrake recognizes it. Mandrake is very comprehensive in hardware recognition. It's real amazing! However, I would like to know if there's a webcamera that could be recognized like that, by RedHat 9. Thank you. As long as USB is working correctly in RH, it should. Does RH have USB Viewer ? Mandrake has this, and it tells you any information on your USB hardware when you plug it in. Once I saw it in USB Viewer, I just installed the GnomeMeeting Package

What's the best webcam for RedHat 9?

Quote: I would like to know if there is a webcam that works for RedHat 9 right out of the box, with no extra configuration, no need for manual driver installation. Thank you, I just got and use a Logitech Quick Cam Express (USB) and it works like a charm in Mandrake with GnomeMeeting. It is chech too.

    XQF enemy-territory master server

Quote: Quote: I guess et is just to new, figured it may have been similar to rtcw with some small protocol difference. I've got it going easy really! Just as i thought. What is the protocol? Well quake3 pointrelease 1.32 is protocol 68. 1.31 was 67. how do I find out enemy territory's? Easy record a demo and see what it calls it ! /record demo0000.dm_82 /stoprecord protocol 82!!!! So in XQF you just put this in:- game > options > master protocol version > 82 the master server is:- etmaster.idsoftware.com Cewl. I am still working on the Bittorrent thing. Great little idea, but not as easy to setup for server side use.

Quote: Has anyone managed to configure xqf(qstat) so that enemy-territory master servers show up? the master server Quote: etmaster.idsoftware.com Not yet. I am having enough probs right now trying to get ET through the firewall with the given ports that the MOD uses. I still have to disable the firewall. I am not sure if there is actually any support for the MOD yet. See the following URL; http://www.linuxgames.com/xqf/

    Linux Installers

Hey All; I have begun the process of creating several of my own Linux Native games and installers for various Quake3 MODS and UT MODS. As well I have created my own Native Installer for America's Army. You can download them at the following URLs (Most are 300 Megs + So I am not sure what the download speed will be like); Quake3: Uban Terror 2.6a http://mandrake101.no-ip.org/urbanterror2.6a_linux.mun Quake3: Navy Seals 1.45b http://mandrake101.no-ip.org//navyseals145b_linux.mun Army Ops 1.70 (Not Icculus Offical Release, this is my own built from Gentoo Live CD) http://mandrake101.no-ip.org/armyops170_linux.mun UT SF 1.81 (Final build for UT) http://mandrake101.no-ip.org/sf181install.tar.gz Currently, StrikeForce is being ported for UT 2003 (UT2003 MOD vice UT MOD), once it has been completed, I will attempt to create another installer in support of this new SF MOD for UT2003.

    Counter-Strike on SuSE Linux 8.1???

Quote: Quote: Have you tried running Q3 in native Linux mode? It runs at least as fast as it did in Windows, so you'll probably like it a lot better clutch Quake3 Urban terror is said to blow away counter strike dont know cos i've never even seen counter strike! But UrbanTerror ROCKS! Yes I have to agree. That is why I made an installer for it. You still have to have the retail (linux) version installed and patched to 1.32b for UT to play online.

    Linux Installers

Quote: I do realize yours in not official. What I was asking is weather or not the install from your site that runs around 300mb if it's that large because all of the data contained in the cloop file is all ready in that package? Nope, data was extracted from the cloop file. Only the game data is in the installer, which installs it in /usr/local/games, creates an executable link to /usr/local/games/armyops/System/armyops-bin in /usr/local/games/armyops, and copies over the icon file as well.

    Linux Installers

Quote: Sweet. I was just starting to take a look at the live cd to try to figure out how to tear it apart. Looks like you beat me to it. Any idea what the deal is with them having a linux version but not releasing it for normal download and install? Quick question on your army ops installer. It's 3xxmb is this a package that contains the entire game then? Thanks for the installers!!! Yes, Icculus.org is actually doing the porting of the game. Mine is not an official release. He will release it soon.

    Linux Half-Life...

Quote: Hi, I'm new to the Linux scene and was just wondering about LHL. I'm about to install Mandrake 9 on a partition alongside WinXP and was just wondering whether or not you think it's worth the hassle of installing HL and CS through WINE, or if I should just run it through WinXP? I read about some issues with LHL, like no full screen, sound not being right etc, is it worth it? Thanks and I look forward to posting in the future, Eddd Mandrake 9.1 with WineX 3.01, and Point2Play 1.01 plays both HL, and Op4, CS, perfectly. For Op4 all you have to do is copy of the rundll32.exe from your existing Windows installation to /home/user/TransGaming_Drive/windows/system32/ folder prior to installing Op4.

    Americas Army

Quote: Americas Army is out for linux. get it at www.gentoo.org download live cd iso 500Mb approx. You can boot the live cd and play and or copy the files to your harddrive. The files are:- /opt/armyops170 The executable is:- /opt/armyops170/System/armyops-bin I have a feeling it is a beta, because I have not seen anything posted by icculus to confirm a final release. Can anyone confirm this? I have a tutorial on my web site on how to extract the Army Ops game data, I didn't have much luck running it off the cd. See the URL below for more details. http://mandrake101.no-ip.org/ - Native Linux Gaming Section Cheers and enjoy

  23. Linux can only play online with Linux still. Here is the URL for the download; http://icculus.org/news/news.php?id=1324
  24. Quote: Will test in next few days, I had a nother question... Is Serious sam the same gfx engine as UT2003, Americas Army? No, they are based on the UT and UT2003 engines....croteam used their own engine.
  25. Quote: Is it any good and how critical are the bugs? Bugs are minimal and were already introduced in the Win32 version. Lack capability with Win32 Servers and not many Dedicated Linux server is more the issue right now.
