    bios update

Please post the exact make, model and revision of your system or motherboard. What method did you use to flash the bios? Some boards require you to use specific methods of flashing the bios. Are you sure that you had the EXACT bios update for your system or motherboard, including the motherboard revision? Did you follow the instructions on the manufacturer's site? For example, some vendors stress clearing the cmos after the flash, or setting the system defaults in the bios right after the flash update.

USB adapter for Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel?

Apparently this will not work. See this post on Tom's Hardware forum. Unless the game gurus here know of a workaround.

    Logitech Wingman Rumblepad help

Try adding the modules to the file /etc/modules by following the steps in this article . Make sure that you are at the last section, "To be able to use ThinkFinger 0.3" and follow the directions on how to insert the modules at startup. You can see if the device works at all before altering the /etc/modules file by doing; sudo modprobe joydev (enter key) sudo modprobe iforce (enter key) (yes, without the quotes), in a terminal window. If the modules load correctly, you should see no output after hitting the enter key each time. NOTE: To use the sudo command, you will need to know the root password that you set up when you installed Ubuntu, as you will be prompted for it when using the sudo command.

    LINUX OPERATING SYSTEM WITH KUBUNTU

What version of Kubuntu are you using? Have you tried using the printer setup to see if you can load the already included CUPS drivers? When the printer is connected, try the Z600 printer, if it is available. If not, we can go from there.

    aoc monitor prob 519 sw

I noticed that you posted under both Linux and Windows hardware. Which are you running? If Windows, what version? Did you install the drivers for the monitor and/or video card? It looks like you do have some video from your description. What resolution are you running at? You can try 1024x768 @60. Let us know if you do not know how to do this.

    File Sharing Problem in XP-SP2

Are all computers running Windows XP Professional, Home Edition, or a combination of both? See this Microsoft article which may help.
  9. You did not mention what computer system that you have. The main point is that are the USB ports USB 1.0 or 2 compliant? What about the hardware that you are using? One often sees this problem when plugging in USB 2 compliant devices into 1.0 ports. What is the hardware that works in the ports? Are you using USB ports off the back of the system (attached to the motherboard itself), or front mounted USB ports on the case? You should always try and use the same ports with the same hardware, but try to use different ports for each piece of hardware. Do not use one port for all hardware that you swap around. Sony mentions that the camcorder is not supported in Windows XP 64 bit version. Also, do a search on the forums for USB not recognized or USB malfunction and you will get a lot of hits. Do you have the current chipset and system drivers installed on your system? Lastly, sometimes the ports get a build of static charge. You can fix this by unplugging the power cable from the case, then hold down the on/off button for about 5 seconds. This removes ant resident or static charge on the ports.

XP Pro won't share My Documents with XP Home

Are both computers on the same workgroup and is the Pro system set up for simple file sharing (not disabled), as noted here?
  11. What happens when you try the skge module, as suggested by hyvatti ? Quote: The sk98lin driver is no more the correct one for D-Link DGE-530T gigabit ethernet card, and probably a whole lot of other cards. The new kernel module is skge. You need to remove a line referencing the old driver from /etc/modprobe.conf, and replace it with skge like this: alias eth0 skge Of course, yours would be; alias eth1 skge Also, you noted; Quote: I have tried following jimgolding's post to manually configure the driver i.e. modifying /etc/modprobe.conf and adding /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 . Did you use his example, or copy the references from your own ifcfg-eth0 file? His was a static connection, yours may be DHCP auto?

    hp driver download

Assuming that you are using windows XP, did you download and install the driver using the instructions referred to here? If you downloaded the incorrect driver, then go to the Control panel-->add/remove programs and uninstall the full program. Reboot the computer and install the correct driver, as per the instructions.

Did you follow the directions on the Rockstar Classics page here and install the latest DirectX? What video card is in your system? Are the latest drivers installed for your video card?

    SIMS 2 ... directx 9.0c HELP

This is not my forte, but maybe we can spark some answers. Do you have the latest DirectX installed, as per peterh's suggestion? What about the latest drivers for the video card? If you do not know, look under the System tab of the dxdiag window and see what version is installed. Also, it may be helpful if you post what make and model system that you have.
  15. I will be of little help on this as I do not have a license for Oracle, but perhaps we can find someone who does run it. What driver did you use to configure the NIC? Several were mentioned in the solutions in the referenced thread. ..and you did determined that the driver is active (available) for the running kernel?

Sony DSC-F505 Driver for Vista OS

Sorry, I should have been clearer...which camera memory sticks is what I was getting at, so that you could choose a compatible all-in-one card reader. But it sounds like you have a work around through network transfers. Perhaps someone else will read this and have another idea on the drivers issue.

The Curse of Monkey Island Problem..please help!

Let the guys and gals here know what exact video card make and model that you have and the version of Windows that you are using. Also, do you have the latest drivers for the video card installed? Finally, did the message say that Direct 3D was not installed, or not available?

Sony DSC-F505 Driver for Vista OS

Yes, I see it now, the drivers were for Windows 2000 in the compatibility database, correct? That is what I was getting at, where you found the links here, in the forums or database. What about buying a all-in-one card reader and transferring the pictures that way? I'm still on XP and mainly use Linux, so excuse my lack of knowledge with Vista. Which memory sticks are you currently using?

    PCI wireless card not working

You did not mention what version of Windows you are using, but if we assume XP and it did not detect the card and offer to set it up... If you have access to another computer, or can hardwire an internet connection, the software can be had at the D-Link website. You will need to know the model number and revision of the card, which should be on the card itself. Then simply download the software and install it. Most of the D-Link software suggests removing the card, installing the software, then reinserting the card and starting the system. I assume if your router has encription set up on it, you know the ESSID and passphrase?

Sony DSC-F505 Driver for Vista OS

Could you post where you found the older links? According to the Sony Vista Support Page this camera is not supported in Vista.

    No Sound

You did not mention where your speakers are connected. Front panel or on the rear line out audio connector of the motherboard? Does sound work on either (assuming that the case has a front panel audio option and you did not mention what case you are using)?

    Drivers for Acer Aspire T180

What drivers are you looking for? If you have the latest version of Ubuntu, the drivers should be included. If you already tried Ubuntu and are having problems, please be specific. If you have not installed it yet and want to see if your hardware works, what about trying the Ubuntu Live CD first? This way you see what hardware is supported and what issues (if any) that you may have. Do you plan on keeping Windows XP on the system and dual booting Ubuntu?

    sata problems

Could you be more specific on what Linux distro and version that you have? If you are speaking of RedHat 9 or SuSE 9, then these versions are older and do not have support for sata drives. If this is the case, I suggest that you use a new version of the distro which have sata support. For example, Fedora 8 or 9 is installed on my three systems with sata with no problem.

    No Sound Device

Let DosFreak know exactly where you downloaded the driver from and what version you downloaded (eg, Audio Driver 5.10.0.5027.exe). Did you check the volume settings in Windows to make sure that the volume was turned up?
  25. Take a look at the Ubuntu wiki how-to, located here. Then note the modem section here. What exact model number is this modem?
