Many compressed downloads have CRC errors

A few more things to try, run a port scanner on your machine, look for anything "odd".. Also, are you running any CURRENT antivirus software? Just some more tips I had thought of. Good luck.

ECO, do you have broadband? Are you running a router? I've seen routers corrupt downloads, which can be fixed by a firmware flash... Check your router manufacturer's web site, if applicable. Let us know what you find out, ok?

this one goes out to all of you running .NET server

Running 2k as my primary system, I was able to uninstall WMP9 without any major problems. Be warned, however, that it will revert to WMP 6.4, so you may want to download WMP 7.1 again. I believe there are different uninstall directions for XP, but they are on the 'Release Notes' link which should be near the download link.

Why doesn't IE 6.0 cache any web pages??

    Ok, here's a list of IE6 SP1 fixes and updates. Have a look: http://support.microsoft.com/common/cann...;MaxResults=150

WMP9 Issues... Only thing that I've noticed is during playback of video encoded with DivX, the scroller bar does not correctly function, and the length of the video is also reported incorrectly... For example, a video that's 2 hours long could easily show up as 10 hours long in WMP9... hopefully that will get fixed. I'd also like to see Ogg support, but I HIGHLY doubt that..

Four and Twenty, I was going to suggest waiting for RC2, but I guess it doesn't matter much at this point. BTW, have you (Or anyone else, for that matter) seen a estimated release schedule for .Net RC2? As far as WMP9 is concerned, I was totally against DRM, but I understand why it is necessary. I am in the minority, I believe, because I actually own all the cds that I have in MP3 format. I never use the cds, so hopefully I am not violating too many clauses of the copyright/fair use laws. I can easily forsee having to re-encode all my MP3's into DRM-equipped WMA's though. Oh well.... Sorry for the rant!

OK, so IE6.0 SP1 is out... Has anyone installed it yet? Is there a list of updates/bugfixes, or is just cumulitive security updates?

    40.41 Det's - BSOD

Honestly, the only betas I have personally been involved in (Actual testing and feedback) were XP Pro, and .Net Server/Enterprise Server... Unofficially, I've been playing around a bit with Mandrake Linux RC1.

    The Best MP3-CD Burning Program?

If you have a cd player that will play MP3 files off of a cd, then any data cd writing program will do, my personal preference is Nero, but like everything else, everyone has an opinion. If you're looking to rip/extract audio from cds, and to encode those files into MP3's, then I would recommend Audiograbber, and the LAME codec. Audiograbber is shareware, and I believe LAME is GNU. If you choose to use Windows Media Fomat (.WMA) to encode, I would personally recommend you UNCHECK the "Enable Digital Rights" box, but again, it's your choice. If you'd like to know more about digital rights, let me know... I've been researching it for some time now. Also, please do not pirate the encoded files. Thanks...

Why doesn't IE 6.0 cache any web pages??

Honestly, I hadn't noticed (I have a broadband connection) so I checked it out: Sure enough... IE doesn't seem to cache correctly, or try to load a page from the cache. I am not sure, but I know that SP1 for IE 6 is coming out very soon. Perhaps someone else knows a bit more about the corrections in SP1 than I. Maybe there's a beta tester that frequents the forums?

    Windows XP upgrade headaches

Really, when you change platforms (Win9X to WinNT) a clean install is always the best route to go... I read an article somewhere recently (Sorry, I don't remember where off hand) where a representitive from MS actually said that Win2k/XP wasn't meant to upgrade from the 9X class. Sorry for all the troubles you've been having, but I can assure you that many of the visitors to the site here have learned a great deal from their mistakes.. Best of luck.

    Asus P4B533-E / Intel 845-E

Thanks for your prompt reply, Skipper. I have been using Red Hat 7.3 in a virtual machine (VMware) for learning, and I think I am ready for a dual boot between 2k and RH 7.3.
