    Problem with Connecting

The 169.x.x.x IP address means that Windows cannot get an IP address from a DHCP server (typically a router or cable modem for home users). Obvious things to check include the cabling, physical connections, etc.

    Bootup - Desktop doesn't show.

Try backing up your documents and settings and creating a new user profile.

Sysprep 2.0 and custom Default User Profiles

I haven't tried this, but I wonder if you could script something with Sysinternal's NewSid utility.

    Basic Color Themes for WinXP

I think DeviantArt has some, but I'm not positive, it's been ages since I've looked (gone to Windows Classic myself).

problems installing directx 9c available on the sim cd

kirkymacall- Sounds like you have an Intel-intergrated video card. You will need to buy a new video card and install it physically into your computer for Sims 2 to work.
  8. What has been installed/changed since it last worked?

Sims 2 prob. 95% into installation

Sounds like either a bad optical (CD or DVD) drive or bad media. Try exchanging your CD/DVD at the store where you bought it.
  10. You could try reinstalling the codec that was used to encode the video, or try a different media player.

Default IP address not working with AP.

You could connect it to a stand-alone PC and run an IP scanner, or you could just perform a hard reset on the device and use the default IP address.

    how to crash xp

A much, much, much more appropriate resolution could be had by talking to the employee, nicely. If that doesn't work, talk to your supervisor/HR director. There's no need to get technology involved here.

    page file error msgs

Could be a number of problems... Set your page file options to System Managed (dynamic) Defragment your hard drive (the page file may need continous free space) Check your memory modules for errors with Memtest86

    Help With American McGee's Alice

As you can see above, it worked fine for me as of 2 months ago...
  17. I bet you have a Hyperthreading P4 CPU. This is normal. If you want to turn it off (no real reason to) then you may do so in the BIOS configuration.

Anyone else having strange problems after SP2?

Yep, unfortunately... Maybe it would be nice if there was a warning stating, "This thread is over xx months old, do you really wish to create a new post?"

    Ra Server

http://www.avp.ch/avpve/trojan/backdoor/ra.stm If you have this installed on your system, and you did not knowingly install it, then no, your system is neither safe nor secure. You may want to re-think your browser/firewall/anti-virus/patching strategies.

Is WinXP Home as good as WinXP pro?

A few key details there, APK... 1. It's a laptop, not likely a good match for a server-class OS. 2. Since the OP noted that the laptop has an XP Home CD key, it's likely that other OS's may be unlicensed. Not that I disagree with your points, just those details are why I recommended staying with XP Home.

Is WinXP Home as good as WinXP pro?

If you're not joined to a domain (you would know if you were), then there is little difference.

    Desktop Management

AD environment? Does Group Policy not suffice? You could use VNC/RAdmin, too.

    Help me folks

You may want to try a removal tool from either Symantec or McAfee, you may have a variant of Blaster that is not detected by the Microsoft tool.

    Wireless encryption problems

That's interesting. A few ideas... Do you have laptop there that is stand-alone (not joined to the same workgroup/domain) that you can try to get a network connection with WEP disabled? Does it work? Does your AP support WPA? Does your laptop/NIC/driver/OS support WPA? Have you tried using that instead of WEP? If WPA is available, it is considerably more secure than WEP for the time being. Hope that helps, post back with your results/questions
