When it runs, does it report any bad sectors or errors? Does your SYSTEM event log report and DISK errors?

The key here is that all internet connectivity is lost. How did you have this setup configured prior to installing the router? Were you using ICS (internet connection sharing)? Did you delete/remove all ICS-specific settings? Are all of the computers receiving a DHCP IP address? When internet connectivity is lost, from the 2nd computer (not running ET) can you ping the router (typically either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, unless you've changed it)? Can you tracert to a known-good site?

It's likely that the copy protection is preventing you from copying the disc correctly. The copy protection is there for a reason. Did you fully read the EULA for the game/software?

Is anything physically connected to the hub? If so, then your motherboard likely cannot power the hub, you will need a self-powered hub.

Phillip, I have a few suggestions. First, how about some links in the sidebar/template for both NT Compatible and Linux Compatible? OK, now how about if you're logged into one site, that link is clicked, you're automagically logged into the sister site? Still with me? Now, how about adding MajorGeeks to the list as well? They're using your CMS still, right? It would probably be a great boost to both NTC and LC communities if MG members could also post at both sites without having to set up a new account. These seem like great ideas to me, hopefully others may agree, and these can possibly be implemented. Thanks for all your work

Password will expire in 14 days - can I set it to say 3 days?

If you have a test server, you could change that setting, and use RegMon from Sysinternals to capture what registry key is being modified. -
Which product to diagnose disk drive issues in W2KServer?
adamvjackson replied to hardwarecrazy's topic in Software
Since it's the installer that checks, you could de-compile the .msi and use ORCA to repackage it. However, doing so is likely in violation of the EULA/license. Additionally, personally I would never want any "system utilities" installed on a production server. If you suspect hardware problems with the drive, check your system event log, and if necessary, check for a utility by the drive manufacturer and enable SMART reporting in the system BIOS. -
Since DosFreak rightfully mentioned the System Shock series, I'll mention the Silent Hill series and also Clive Barker's Undying all are significantly more scary than Doom 3. As big of an Id software fan as I am, I found Doom 3 to be rather frustrating. It was too dark, and just seemed too much like every other FPS on the market already. Doom 1 (and 2) were innovative, for their time. I'm sure the Doom 3 engine will be greatly used in the near future, which is fine, but I found the game to be a bit lacking. Oh well, back to Doom Legacy for me

Great post, sysdvo. Personally, I use this one: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html It works sufficiently well.

What does DXDIAG report? Service Pack 2 includes DirectX 9.0c; as indicated by the release notes for SP2.

How did you fail? Best way to do this (IMO) would be to build a new server installation, and make it an AD DC in the existing domain, so you would have a copy of the user accounts and the AD schema. Then configure necessary network services on the new server (if applicable) such as DHCP, DNS, etc. Finally, remove the old server.
-
Best practice dictates that DNS servers are only referred to by IP address instead of FQDN.

No problem. I may not know too much about Linux, but I'm learning

Have you checked and disabled (if applicable) the power management on the NIC? Often, the setting to turn off the NIC to conserve power is enabled.

Depending on what packages you initially installed, the Mozilla Mail component probably isn't installed. You can add this by going to: 1. System Settings 2. Add/Remove Applications 3. (enter root password) 4. Select Graphical Internet group details 5. tick mozilla-mail.

Quake 3 OpenGL subsystem error, Wolf:ET runs fine (same engine...)
adamvjackson posted a topic in Linux Games
Got Fedora Core 2 installed today, with all of the available updates on up2date, latest kernel, and latest Nvidia drivers. Video card is Geforce4 ti4400 (128MB DDR). Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is installed and running fine, Quake 3, I copied the .pk3 files accordingly, and installed the 1.32 point release as per ID instructions. Upon running either the quake3.sh or quake3.x86 I get an OpenGL subsystem error. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Edit: Kernel version: 2.6.8-1.521 Nvidia driver version: 1.0-6111 Edit 2: Should have googled some more; found plenty of other users talking about this too. Some links: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=35702&page=2&pp=15 http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showpost.php?p=97895&postcount=6 Off to reboot now, to try it; I'll post back with results. OK, the fix posted above at http://wwww.nvnews.net works. Here's the fix, thanks to LordMorgul @ nV News Forums: Quote: Examine the file /etc/sysctl.conf Append: vm.legacy_va_layout =1 -
how to get application compatibilty modes on w2k sp4 (integrated)?
adamvjackson replied to Curley_Boy's topic in Software
Windows 2000 definately has full multi-processor support... Up to a maximum of 32 processors (IIRC) in Advanced Server. The Professional version will support up to 2 processors. -
Just wanted to say hello to everyone; it's been a long time since I posted anything here at LC, I mostly post at NTC. So anyway, hello! 8)

Laptop Video Question: Geforce4 420 Go-V 16 meg
adamvjackson replied to pr-man's topic in Everything New Technology
You should be able to adjust the detail level in Quake 3 to be plenty acceptable for occasional playing. For much more, it will probably not have enough video memory. Either way, try it, and let us know -
Has anyone used this, either in a test lab, or production use? I am thinking about trying this in a small test environment, since it would greatly ease Windows desktops to Linux desktops. I'm also curious about licensing implications, since with a Windows Professional (2000/XP) OS, I believe that half of a CAL is included with the OS license, at least for use with a Terminal Server. Assuming Linux is deployed, with rdesktop being used to connect to a 2000/2003 Terminal Server, would anything other than user/device CALs be required? Thanks...

If the DHCP server is unavailable, have you verifed things like NIC is functional? Known-good cable? Good port on switch/router? Tried reinstalling TCP/IP stack? As far as Windows 2000 is concerned, I think you'll be pleased with SP4 for 2000. It's quite stable, and the USB (2.0 as well) is functional. Note that most non-HID complaint devices (anything beside a mouse/keyboard) will need a vendor-supplied driver though, unlike XP.

Windows Terminal Server with Linux rdesktop RDP Client
adamvjackson replied to adamvjackson's topic in Networking
Thanks clutch, I think I'll install Terminal Services on one of the test servers, and boot from a Linux live CD that has rdesktop and give it a shot. -
Is the link valid? Is your mail server removing (possibly) harmful attachments? Is your mail server parsing HTML mail to text? Is your email client properly configured? Need some more info here.
