    Quake 2 Xp Compatible Patch

Version 3.20 is fully Windows XP compatible. You can get it from ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/ Also, I would recommend you check out Quake 2 Evolved, it is a nice enhancement to the graphics engine. http://www.planetquake.com/blur/
  2. Since your running your Terminal Server in application mode (vs. administration mode) you will need CALs to be compliant, in addition to a licensing server. At least that's my intrepation of it, I only use TS for administration mode here. I'll see if I can dig up a real answer for you, rather than my intrepration of the licensing terms.

    Does linux suck or what?

Personally, I have fully migrated my PC at home to Fedora Core 2, from Windows XP. I have chosen to find native applications which are similar to Windows programs that I frequently used, rather than try to emulate using Wine/Winex/Cedega, etc. If you're determined, and don't mind learning (or giving up some games) then I would absolutely recommend this. If you do, remember to keep an open mind, because you basically need to re-learn using your computer. Also remember this; Just because Microsoft does things one way does not make it the right/best way.

    Microsoft Action Pack

Since the Action Pack is subject to different licensing terms than retail or volume license media, likely there may have been an issue mastering the CDs. I would suggest contacting Microsoft and requesting replacement media. Also, you may want to check on the CD file system if there is a EULA.txt or something to that effect. Likely with the Action Pack, it could just be renamed, and the setup routine has not been modified accordingly.

corpse45, I agree that you're not flaming, but clearly since you registered to spread mis-information, you're trolling. Additionally, you cite no source as to your claims, only that I am "wrong". I suggest you read up on contract law and the DMCA as it applies to software. Quote: Since software is governed not only by copyright law but also by the contract that you agree to when you accept the EULA, make sure you know what is there. Quote: If you are unable to make a useable copy of your software, chances are it is secured by some form of copy protection. In the United States, this falls under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which among other things makes it illegal to attempt to bypass or defeat copy protection that has been instituted by the copyright holder. At the time of writing, no legal recourse exists for making archival copies of your software. Quote: Commercial software generally includes a warranty, the same as any other product. Though the terms will vary depending on the package, these generally provide for replacement of the software media (CD) and/or a refund from the point of purchase, providing all original packaging is returned. Of course, warranties are never easy to claim... If you are concerned about not being able to backup your expensive software, contacting the publisher is really your only current recourse other than violating copyright. Source: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=868&page=3 Additional Information: http://www.fact-index.com/d/di/digital_millennium_copyright_act.html Additionally, since the user dryalkiel was looking to circumvent the copy protection mechanisms placed on The Sims 2 media, this clearly IS a violation of the DMCA. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a copy of The Sims 2 EULA on my special edition DVD, perhaps it is embedded in the installer executable file. This has gone off-topic enough.

    RAM problems with Windows XP

Here's what I think, saberquill. The difference that the BIOS is seeing is 1KB=1000 Bytes, instead of 1KB=1024 Bytes, which is correct. As for task manager reporting 480MB, I would bet with a 99% certianty that you have an intergrated video card that is using 32MB of "shared" RAM. Assuming I am correct, what you report would be normal.

    Untitled thread

Normally I would suggest upgrading your video drivers, but Voodoo has been out of business for about 3+ years now, so likely any drivers that you could find could really be hit or miss. For best support/drivers, you'll need to replace your video card with something more current.

Dual boot of Windows XP Pro and 2003

This will work fine. Just boot from your Windows Server 2003 installation media. It will create a boot menu where you can choose which OS to boot into.

    Internet games via a LAN

Likely the school admin(s) have blocked unprivleged port access at the firewall/proxy server. You could talk to them, but ultimately, you'll probably be forced to get your own ISP/BSP connection for gaming.

    Weird Issue

I'm not an expert about NetBIOS/master browser service, but it would seem like you want to forcefully set one of the Windows 98 PCs as the master browser. Here's a few artices on the KB which may help. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;188001 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;818092 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;102878 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;285035 Anyway, good luck, post if you need more info.

I need help with the sims 2

I did read that. Creating an ISO (or otherwise "imaging" your original CD) is in violation of the EULA, and probably also a violation of the DMCA (assuming you're in the US), as it would constitute breaking of the copy protection mechanisms. Also, please don't resort to name-calling. I post here on my own free time to help others, of no benefit to myself.

    Weird Issue

Sounds like a NetBIOS/master browser issue. Check to ensure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on the Windows 2000 Professional PC. Let us know if that helps. Also, are you running any firewall software on the 2k machine?

The Sims 2 Prblem Solving Guide Part 2

The easiest way would be to replace the computer. Otherwise, you would need to individually replace at least the processor (assuming the motherboard supported a faster processor), video card, and RAM. That would be just to meet the minimum system specifications. Edit: Should you choose to do so, make sure you bring a copy of the minimum system requirements for The Sims 2, to ensure that the new system meets or exceeds those. Specifically, you'll want to make sure that the graphics card (typically an ATI or Nvidia) is on the Maxis-supported list. As I have said before, The Sims 2 is a 3D game, and as such, it needs a powerful 3D graphics accelerator. Most older brand-name computers (HP, Compaq, Dell, etc.) unless they have been upgraded will not meet this requirement.

    Some The Sims 2 hints

MB = Megabytes, refers to space/quantity of storage. MHz = Megahertz, refers to speed (specifically, cycles per second), usually of processors.

I need help with the sims 2

I propose that you buy the game and use the original game CD. This board is not, nor has it ever been, nor will it ever be a place to seek/provide assistance with circumventing copy protection measures.

sims 2 set and game not in English

Sounds like you bought a pirated copy. A *.nri file is a Nero ISO CD-ROM Compilation. If it were me? I would contact EA directly, probably something like piracy@ea.com and give them the complete details. That said, you're pretty much out of luck with that copy, you'll need to purchase a legitimate copy.
