  3. A description and brief review of a program called Mondo Rescue for Linux that does much of what Norton Ghost does for Windows PCS. It literally backs up all your Linux partition and data to couple CDs and restore them later on. Check it out: 1. 7. To the Rosegarden developers: (http://www.all-day-breakfast.com/rosegarden/) Today I convinced my sister to try Rosegarden-4 on Mandrake Linux. To her surprise, everything worked right after installation. She connected the MIDI keyboard to the SB Audigy soundcard. After loading soundfont with sfxload, she played a VGM (FF X) score with the MIDI keyboard, and Rosegarden recorded perfectly what she just played! Now she can work on composing her songs without booting back into Windows. Here, I just want to say: You guys rock! My deep gratitude and thank you to you all. It is fine work such as yours that makes open source and Linux meaningful. -zero0w

    Soundblaster audigy

clutch is right, you can check out the ALSA driver page and mailing list. For SB Audigy Plantium: 1. Driver installation procedure. 2. Driver status. It is possible you may need to do some more testing & tweaking to see if the functions on the front panel works.

    Why are you running Linux?

That's why we need Linux from Scratch. The basic reason is to be windepent, and more importantly, I can't afford several copies of Windows AND MS Office for the computers of my family members all at the same time. Nor do I see justification to do so in an upgrade after upgrade (I doubt if many of us will use MS Office the way those corporate data/IT professionals use, or many of us see the really need to upgrade from Win98/2k to XP as necessary, if just to run our favorite apps). The way I see it, Linux and GPL are indispensable to the open source scene we have these days, and the releases of mozilla.org and Open Office in addition to LAMP and perhaps Gimp are significant as well. The only complaint I can make is the lack of games and media/web authoring applications, which also began to catch up now (eg. Cinerella, Blender, Audacity, and Quanta; but a killer audio/MIDI production app is still pending). There are still more mileages to cover to achieve a level-playing field. But I am optimistic, considering internet is the great propellor of (computing and other) knowledge productions and distributions.

    MSN Messenger Client

Quote: How to send and receive files with GAIM using the MSN protocol... Does this feature exist? GAIM does not support file transfer as of yet.
  17. Now, Mandrake 9 is available on X-box: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=54192&release_id=115075 The amazing thing is they got over 10,000 downloads within two days since their annoucement.
  18. I agree this is good news, but the title seems to be too long . The way I see it, I hope Transgaming got enough subscribers to get WineX continue developing. It literally improves the Win32 compatibility for all the better, and they even contribute some of their work to the main Wine branch. Beautiful job, Transgaming!

Gnometoaster doesn't see my Plextor burner

Glad you solved it out . Still I like using GCombust for making my own data CD. xcdroast is good for CD copy I guess.

Gnometoaster doesn't see my Plextor burner

First, is your CD-Writer IDE or SCSI? Because you may need scsi emulation enabled for IDE CD-Writer. If this is IDE, do you know if the ide-scsi module is loaded during LILO/GREP? I found out that Mandrake 8.2 can detect my IDE CD-Writer and automatically loaded ide-scsi module in LILO at boot, as I did a fresh installation. Don't know if this is the case with your problem.

  23. I have downloaded and applied the windows corefonts package to use under my Mandrake system, and Open Office changed the fonts with its inteface automatically. I don't know if Red Hat has offered some even better fonts than anyone else, maybe posting some screenshots will be nice . MS downloadable corefonts package http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/

Mandrake 9.0 my though on this OS

About the USB problem, maybe this article can help: 1. Troubleshooting Mandrake 9 with USB problem http://www.mandrakeforum.com/article.php?sid=2459&lang=en Also there's another new review of Mandrake Linux 9 over here: 2. Mandrake 9.0 First Impressions http://www.ratedpc.com/review.asp?id=63 The author seems to be very well-informed about various desktop configuration issues: including font setup, theme modification and installing drivers. The screenshots he posted look very good and professional; obviously he had done some serious tweaking and customization which (in my opinion) provide such a consistent feel and pleasure outlook. I am actually even more impressed with his another article: 3. Linux On Desktop (highly recommended) http://www.ratedpc.com/article.asp?id=59 Beware, it is a long read with 21 pages. Also, for the absolute Linux beginner, the article linked to a demo walkthru of Mandrake 9 installation process over here: 4. Mandrake 9 Installation online demo http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/demos/Demo/Mandrake9.0/Install/ In any case, I hope you guys find the articles useful and helpful in your journey towards Linux.

    mandrake 9.0 beta4 ???????????

Looks like Mandrake 9 final is really delayed for another RC3 release first. The Mandrake team is working real hard to have 7 releases - 4 beta and 3 RC to get Mandrake 9 out. I am impressed. I hope they can gain some more customers due to this kind of commitment.
