I'm guessing that it's not. You can force the issue and change the security settings. Look here:
HKLM\ System\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ {xx.INDICATING NIC CARD.xx}\ Parameters\ Tcpip\ Gateway

I was getting pop-ups from this site too. I went through nearly a dozen free pop-up blockers before I found one that I liked as well as worked. This one is great.

I'm assuning that the win2k machine is a DC.
Try hitting a the 2k machine with the ip address.
ie) \\192.168.0.x\c$ where x is the ## of the win2k machine.
If you can do this check to see if the XP machine account is added in AD computers and users\computers.

There are tons of GUI based programs that I have found to close 'close_wait' on a particular port. I've been looking for a command-line utility (a simple one) that will do this. Is there a utility out there for this?
Thanks in advance.

I can barely get into my system before it already has shutdown
So BIOS's have a setting to shutdown if the tempature reaches a given number. You might check that.
