Well through my experience, I think that Windows 98 ran Half-Life and a bunch of other games better then when I upgraded to XP. I havent tried Windows 2000 for games....not sure, you'd think that since they have the same core that they would run the same way. But that's logical thinking, and nothing to do with computers Im getting cable internet tomorrow (finally) and I may reformat and install 2000 (now that I can dl all the nessasary stuff, in a short amount of time) and see how that will run. I recently installed windows 2000 on my new 40 Gig HDD. It's spec's are as follows Intel P3 450MHz 256 MB RAM compaq ps/2 mouse generic keyboard i440bx Intel Motherboard 40 Gig WD HDD 52x24x52 CD/RW 48x CD-ROM Anyway, everytime I restart my computer, both my mouse and keyboard do not work. In fact the icon of my mouse doesnt even appear on the screen. Any Idea's?

erm..sorry to bust in but....isn't a low-level format where the company writes all the tracks onto the cylinders? Im pretty sure Im right. It's not something you can do at home? -Pat ;(

to answer your question nebulus, yes my mouse and keyboard do in fact work, but only If I shut down then start up. If I do a restart of any kind (even if I did not install software) both become un-useable. I will do a service pack update and see what happends. thanks

hey, I gotta prob with my mouse (or mobo either one) its an intelli-mouse explorer 3.0 stuff and every once and a while the mouse will just go off, then on, then off, then on.....really annoying when your about to get toasted in cs and you can't seem to shoot ur gun :\ any ideas would be appreciated ty

its a post-OS after XP (next big OS im guessing)

what video card drivers are you running? I had a similar problem with the nvidia 40.72's

actually, I have it connected through the ps/2 port with the adapter. Sorry I didnt bring this up before. All of the previous usb problems you brought forward are still possibilities and may still apply to the ps/2 ports hmm....Ill look into this. thanks for your ideas, Ill reply when I figure it out

yea I've done that before on accident, never really changed any setting tho just did a restart from the taskmgr

I think I have that keyboard prob too, I have button on the top-left of the board that has an f on it, when clicked an LED comes on and you can use your f1-f12 key's. LED off, and you cant. its really dumb

Anyone know an easy way to make all my folders have icons viewed and not tiles. Those big things scare me, I like the old windows style icon.

hehe, prob a stupid ques.....but could (or should) I do a dual boot of win98se and winME? I know that winME reads the ps2 port a lil faster and some other things are faster....i wanna get the best of win98 and the best (without the crappy stuff) from winME..I dunno jus post suggestions and then directions :x 8)

theres a big thing in the 2k forums that peoples cpu are being degraded up to 99% just doing nothing.....you should look into that

Umm, i have a gf2-mx-400 and its an "ok" card not the best. Anyway, I play counter-strike alot and i used to get around 75-99 fps. but with the newer version i only get 33-75. I installed the new nvidida drivers version 29.42 and still get the same fps. Im just wondering if you think I should go back to the 12.41 drivers where the shadowing texture feature wasn't in the drivers. I dunno if it will make my fps better? i dont really care for image quality.
