i have a problem with my burner in XP. I have a plextor 8x4x32 and from whta I've been told this burner is compatible with XP, but I cant get it to work. Actually, if I burn files with explorer it works, but if i try nero, easy cd, or even media player it won't work. sometimes it freezes and sometimes it reboots, but never works. I know its not my motherboard cuz it didnt work on my old one and it's not working on the one i got last week. Anyone else have this problem or know how I can fix it ? Thanks in advance.

ps. burner works in 98, ME and 2k.

Did you check to see if you're cables are properly connected? Do you have a lot of stuff running in the background? Have you checked for a firmware update?

the cables are correct, and even after rebooting and closing all programs it won't work. i know hte cables are right cuz it will work fine in any OS that isnt XP. ive done the firmware upgrade before, but since then i've formatted, gotten the new mb/cpu, etc. so i guess i ahve to do it again. for some reason i thought firmware upgrades stayed on hte hardware. ill try that when i get home though. i hope that it works, thanks for the help.

hey, thanks a lot. i got the firmware upgrade and it worked right away. now the only odd thing is that nero told me it was gonna restart my pc after burning a cd. i could have read it wrong, but i dunno whats up with that. i burned another this morning to see if it would do it again and it didnt. o well, not a prob. im happy i can burn cds again. thanks again for your help.
