My ugly Halflife:
I installed 2k on a w98 system...sort of.
I added a fresh disk, made my old disk a slave, and installed 2k. Well, my old disk is still my c: drive, even though I no longer boot from it. Since I didn't reformat c:, I still had all my old progs and apps. they all worked (mostly) and there was no confusion about paths becuase they were still on c:\.
so far so good!
Then enters Half life!
I ran half- life from my old install on the c: drive. it asked for my cd-key and then Appeared to run ok.
I say appeared because when i exited, i got a bluescreen and had to reboot.
after the reboot, chkdsk ran for a godawful long time (3 to 4 hours) and when it was done, 70% of the files on my c: drive were truncated to 4k.
yuck!
i reformated c: to ntfs and reinstalled most of the other applications.
will this happen again? i am scared!
is it becuase of my wierd install or is it a half life problem?
any suggestions?
