Hello again

I'm Running Windows 2000 final and installed my OKIPage 4w succesfully.

The problem is now, when the printer isn't switched on (no power) the task SYSTEM eats 90% of my CPU power and the system becomes VERY slow ... It seems, the printer driver/spooler is sending a lot of sh*t to the printer and of course gettig no answers.

Now the funny part: If I switch the printer on, everything is fine, the task SYSTEM eats only about 10% and Windows is fast as without any printer drivers...

Any ideas?

Thanx and bye ...

P.S: The printer is on power safe mode -> 5W but it sux to have it switched on all the day...

Could you please tell how you managed to install the 4w drivers? I've tried several times but I always get a message that the printer driver did not install. I've read the readme file without getting any wiser .

OK, I'll type everything I've still in my mind...

1.) Uninstall all OKI-drivers/software. Ddelete files manually if they don't uninstall!
Means you look on you driver-CD for the filenames and delete those in your WinNT dir.
Delete them with a bootdisk (in win98) if Windows 2000 don't let you delete...

2.) Now download this file: ftp://ftp2.okidata.com/pub/drivers/led/oki4w3.exe
Run it (its not an installation, it just unpacks the files into the dir you chose)
Now you have about 40 files in the dir you chose

3.) Let's start setup.exe

4.) Now do whatever the setup tells you - at the end it will start some 'DOS-batch-files'
After such a DOS box is closed the next operation will take a longer time (2-3min) - and
there are about 3-4 such operations: so just sit there and watch...

5.) OK, wake up - the "add printer" dialog should pop up...

6.) Take: My Computer / LPT1

7.) Select OKIDATA as the Printer Manufacturer, then select OKIPAGE 4w as the printer
(at the _*BOTTOM*_ of the printer list)

8.) NO TEST PAGE, NO REBOOT -> later

9.) An insert Disk dialog box appears. You will NOT need your WinNT CD (remove the CD out
of your driver) - copy the files from an alternate location. At the ‘Copy Files From’ prompt,
type the directory name where your NT system files reside, then click OK.

10.) OK, everything should have been copied now... If not, then some older files could not be
overwritten (so don't forget to delete ALL old files!)

11.) Reboot & have fun

I hope I didn't forget something cya

That did the trick - thankyou!

Don't know what I did wrong before, but this time I deleted the whole c:\winnt and installed a virgin copy of NT before trying.
