I have installed Authorware 5.2 on a number of Dell computers in a lab at the college i work in. I ran into a problem with the program saying the memory was too full to create a new file. The systems have 1 to 2 gb memory so i knew this wasn't the problem. I checked around and found out that Authorware 5.2 cannot run with more than 512mb ram in the system. It doesn't know what to do with it. The odd thing that I found in this, is that the previous admin here had the program running on the machines in the spring semester and he said he didn't do anything special to get them running. We recently reinstalled the machines and put SP2 on them. As far as I know, they have not added ram to the machines either. I tried the basic compatibility tab to see if running it in different modes would make a difference, with no luck. A friend of mine said to try the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit and try to use the SetEnvironmentVariable setting to try to make the program think there is only 512mb ram running. I am somewhat new to using the program and so I'm not sure how the scripts/command lines it is looking for would work. I'm not even sure the toolkit can do this. Basically, what I'm looking for is either a program that can force a program to see only a set amount of ram, or a way to get the toolkit to do this for me. I do realize upgrading to the most recent version would be a better option, but they want to try to make the programs last as long as possible before getting the new one. So I need to try everything possible before I can go to them and say we need to buy the new version. Any information at all on this subject would be great.

do the systems have 1-2 Gb om HDD space remaining or total?

The systems have 30 to 40 gb HDDs with 20 gb free space. and a 2 to 4 GB set pagefile on a seperate partition. There are a couple different models in the room so the specs vary. One model has 1 GB ram and the other has 2GB ram, though all the systems have the 2 to 4 GB pagefile and they all have at least 20 GB HDD space remaining. I have checked with the authorware people and they confirmed that the program just doesn't know what to do with the amount of ram in the system. They could only recommend upgrading. I'm wondering if the windows application compatibility toolkit can make the program think there is less ram. It looks like the SetEnvironmentVariable option would be an option, if I can figure out the command line(s) to make it run. or if anyone else knows a program that can make the program think there is less ram.
