my system was working fine. I had NOT INSTALLED anything new on my comp. when i started my comp again (after 2 days), i got the blue screen saying UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME. wht caused this? is there any permanent way of fixing this? i tried command prompt>>CHKDSK, but eventually i get the blue screen again.

PS: i m just an average PC user, so i m not very frindly with high tech computer terms. it would really help if i got a reply in a simple language.....thanx!

Can you give some system specs? Like what operating system (os) you are using?

For XP, try these:

1) Start with XPCD in CDROM/DVD drive and boot from it.
2) Start Recovery Console (press "R") from Welcome to Setup screen.
3) Login with your Administrator account.
4) At the command prompt execute:
"chkdsk /p /r" this can take some time...

5) Then execute:
"fixboot c:"

6) Type "exit" to reboot system.

To prevent this from happening again, download and install this
"Critical Update, February 10, 2002"

This should be fixed in SP1>
