I recently installed Core 1 on a new hard drive. Everything seemed ok , except I can't figuire out how to install my old internet service. I downloaded their software for Linux and then installed it, {Netzero.rpm.}. Now their is no new icon or start menu item as per windows. I know it is somewhere in the tree, maybe fstab? but I don't know how to edit or configuire it.I also tried to set up an external modem device with the network wizard. I think that might be okay, at least it works under windows, right now. Also Linux stopped booting. It got up to the initiating network settings during bootup and then quit. Actually it started the loopback interface and then Nertzero interface made it quit. I had to shut it down dirty and now it boots up only to starting the file system.
Any help would be highly appreciated. How do I get it to boot up for starters.

On boot up, where does it hang? What is on the screen just before it stops?

What is your external Internet device? 56k? ADSL? Cable? Give us the particulars on how your hardware works together to bring you an Internet connection in Windows. This will help us in helping you figure out what to do. smile

Iam using a 56k external modem for dial up Net Zero. I tried to get the new Linux compatable software from Net zero which I installed.
In Windows that would create an icon on the desktop which you clicked to start the connection.I also installed the new external modem and tried to create a new conection with the network set-up wizard in Linux. The modem made the regular noises, but would not create a connection. Now it won't boot and stops after it gets to the interactive screen that says the file system is starting and then it quits. I have a start up disk which I made during installation but it didn't do anything to make it boot.

I'm kind of in the dark here. Tell me about Net Zero. They are an ISP, but are they providing you with this 56k external modem? Is the software they have provided you with, to access their services once a conection is made, or is the software for the modem itself?

Likely it's for accessing their services. Can you tell us the make and model of your external modem? The way to configure it is through either kppp ot wvdial.

kppp should be in your Internet section of your menu. Configuring an Internet connection with it is pretty easy. Wvdial is a command line utility, but in my opinion is more user friendly once you get it setup, which isn't very hard.

Where did you get this netzero.rpm? Far as I see, they only support lindows, which is debian based, and they only have the netzero.deb file. So, where did you find this netzero.rpm?
