Now, How do I go about changing a work rating?
This thing is surprisingly easy to setup on new
kernels. You just need to load the PWC module
for the graphics, and the usb audio module for
the builtin speaker, and then you need to download
a program to put the device to use.

Both modules are in the usb directory of the kernel
source. Newer distributions than Mandrake 8.1 may have
this device setup automagically. I used XawTV.

I have come across one problem; I can't change the
resolution. It seems locked at 160x120, or whatever
the lowres mode is. That could possible be the fault
of the programs I am using, however.

If you got the Logitech Quickcam USB to work, then please explain how you did it in detail, the apps u used, distribution, kernel build, additional patches, etc. Remember that this is not a Windows forum, where everyone takes for granted that the others KNOW which "button" to push, and where that "checkbox" is wink

I personally could not get the Logitech USB cam to be recognized in the first place, because the USB controller of my board is acting weird. I have an Asus P4S533 (SiS 645DX chipset), and it seems to conflict with the SBLive! because when the Cam is plugged in, I get no sound....

RH found mine on the install, never had to config anything. in fact, it worked on my USB hub, which XP gave me errors on. XP saw it, but couldnt use it unless i pluged it right into the PC (power issue) but in the hub with no extra power source, linux had no issue. i know this doesnt help, but what the hey

I am using mandrake, and here is how I got it done:

First, I had already manually upgraded to the 2.4.18 kernel.
The kernel that comes with Mandrake 8.1 does not have support
for this device, but it is in 2.4.18. It uses the Phillipes webcam module.
PWC for visuals. You can compile it yourself, but it will in modern distributions
usually come with the set. Just modprobe pwc if for any reason it doesn't
do it automatically. Then there is a module simply called "audio" which is going
to handle the microphone. It's the USB audio module, named "audio."

If you have an old kernel and these modules are not present, than you
should upgrade your kernel manually or upgrade your distro.

As for you conflicts with your sound card, you may want to try disabling the
audio module as it may be at fault. I doubt the PWC moduel required for
video is at failt for that.

It technically works, but like all hardware or software it may have problems
on some systems frown

Hi Guys

I am trying to make my QUickcam Zoom camera work on kernel 2.4.18. I have downloaded a linux driver from www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam
I followed the instructions as provided but cannot make it work. I even tried to reconfigure the kernel without any success.
I am kind of new to linux and would like to make the camera work on linux.
I would appreciate if somebody can help me regarding this matter by giving me step by step instructions on how to get the camera working.

Thanks in advance!!!
