Not sure if you can help (or if this even belongs here) but this is making me just a wee bit crazy...

In my ongoing (but fairly recent) struggle to play some old MS-DOS based classic games, I got MS Virtual PC 2004.
I created a new machine, with a 1gig virtual drive, and prepared to instal ms dos 6.22.

I have run across 2 seperate issues... on is the error message "NTLDR is missing", and the other, where Setup starts, but then for ome reason keeps asking for Disk 1 (which I do have, and it refuses to acknowledge).

Just wondered, especially with that NTLDR thing, has anyone encountered such a thing, or can you shed some light?

If you need any other details, please, ask and I'll tell you what I can.
Thanks.

Hi Kyle,
The problem you're having has nothing to do with Virtual PC or MS-Dos per se. The reason you're getting that NTLDR message is that the floppy your Virtual PC is booting off of isn't bootable. The NTLDR message means that the floppy in question was formatted in a Windows NT platform computer (NT4, 2000, and possibly XP {that actually supports the creation bootable floppies}). Are you sure you've inserted an unmodifed and bootable copy of Disk 1 for MS-Dos?
Cheers,
Christian Blackburn

So... if I boot from a 6.22 boot disk, then format my floppies, THEN copy my files to the floppy, that should eliminate that error, and they will become bootable?

If so, that will only leave me with the (expletive deleted) "Insert Disk #1" message that I get every time I try to run setup manually, lol.. I've read a few older posts suggesting that it is the labeling of the floppies causing that problem, but I have re-labeled them in several possible avariations and still seem to have problems with them.

I have managed to successfully install and run one game I was working towards (Privateer 2) on a Win98 Virtual machine, but still wish to create and use a pure DOS 6.22 one, if possible.. so I'll keep plugging away.

Thanks a TON for the insight on the NTLDR issue, that one was a tricky find, good luck for me you were on the ball wink
