hi smile

I've not had a video driver install problem before...but the 43.35 drivers left me wondering.

i'm using win2kpro sp3...

i clicked on the uninstall driver option...rebooted.
system came back with generic vga adapter. this was great.
I launched the nvidia driver setup.
it complained i still had an old version of the detonator driver running...how could this be as i am in standard vga now?

Normally, i would not worry about this...
But after this installation i have experienced a few annoying quirks.

things like not being able to select 85hz under 1024*768
But most puzzling of all...

some games like, Gost recon and star wars galaxies, now display in about 8 colours (reminds me of CGA graphics). Sometimes in such a game i can see the actual colours (textures) on some items. Most games, i have, run as beautiful as ever.

So now the newest certified drivers are out...

(using an MSI geoforce 2 card)

how do i uninstall my old drivers properly and install the new ones?

Very rarely do I bother upgrading my Nvidia drivers, and when I do, I always just install on top of the current drivers. I haven't had any problems doing that yet, knock on wood...

Under Windows 2000, I would personally use the Add/Remove Hardware applet in the control panel to uninstall drivers ..... but since you brought up its a geforce card a utility call the Nvidia File Remover has been tossed about.

You can google it for a better understanding ..... author's web site is here http://rudz.frac.dk/

thanks..
i decided to just install over...wasn't prompted about old drivers this time.

YET, i still have these problems.

Also i upgraded to DX 9 around the same time...so this might be affecting things also.

one of the other quirks i forgot to mention:
my computer can NO longer wake up. frown

I just install over my previous and too haven't had any problems. BUT !!!

BE SURE AND TURN OFF YOUR ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE.

That was the only time things didn't seem to be right after updating the drivers...... I had left my Norton AV on , and for whatever reason the install and results were way off.

Even Nvidia recommends turning off any AV software during the install.

double click the file and it asks where to extract the files
after it extracts then it starts to install. cancel the instal and verify the files were extracted.

then u can have a clean driver install

If you have a new-ish version of WinZip installed u can right click on the .exe and select either open with winzip, or just a straight extract to folder. dead handy. smile

What nvidia card are u using anywayz??? ive got a Geforce 2 MX 400 and i aint had no probs with it so far, doing EXACTLY wot u sed u did!

All i can suggest is that its maybe a direct x 9 problem, have u tried reinstalling Directx???

The proper way is to unnistall with add/remove programs.

any other wy isn't "proper" even though other ways may indeed work for some, they may cause problems in other situations.

at the very leasst, never just run setup and nstall overtop.
