Writer only been picked up as a 24x

i have a liteon 40x writer, but both WinOnCD and nero 5.5 are trying to conivince me its only a 24, i have all the latest patches for nero, as far a s iknow, and i'm running 3.8 WinOnCD. Anyone any ideas? or am i missing as patch ?...
