Is it just me? Virus attacks recently

Over the past two days I have received the Kles virus no less than six times. On each occasion it has been from an "unknown to me" sender although from the headers I've been able to pin three of them down to the pol.co.uk ISP. One or maybe two...

Over the past two days I have received the Kles virus no less than six times.
On each occasion it has been from an "unknown to me" sender although from the headers I've been able to pin three of them down to the pol.co.uk ISP.

One or maybe two I could understand, but six or seven seems a little high and I'm now trying to find out if somebody is purposely sending me these virus's or it is just a little more common out there at the moment.
Is anybody else out there received an abnormally high number of virus's at the moment?

I think it's just you.

I get plenty of spam emails, but haven't had one with a virus attachment for quite a while.

The last one I got was to my wifes address. She'd been in touch with a recruitment company on behalf of her son, and BugBear had gotten into the companys system. She got an infected email, but Norton stopped it in its tracks. I sent them a reply informing them them of the situation, and they got things fixed.

So other than that, I seem to be getting away with it at the moment.

Maybe your email address is listed on websites that are prone to being harvested by spammers?

We have been getting a fairly steady stream of these for a while now, and our McAfee SMTP scanner catches it on the edge of our network. One thing that I wish it didn't do was return the damn attachment along with the warning email to the offending mail server, as several times they have been Norton systems that bounce back a reply stating they got an infected email from us (which the infected email reads something like "we just got this infected email from you, please deal with it"). It looks like their systems are scanning incoming mail only, or the people are using other mail servers and have their work email addresses set for replying. Does anyone here know if that is how Norton works by default? I would have figured that it would scan both incoming and outgoing out of the box.

By default I am sure that Norton Corporate just sends back a message telling the sender "The message you sent contained the xxx virus, full instructions for removal can be found here" I'm sure it doesn't send the actual attachment back.
ALthough that is when you are using the full corporate software, with a local central server, it may not be the case if you are running the software in unmanaged mode.

The address that has been hit is the address listed on the WHOIS information on a couple of domains registered to me, so it would be very easy to get the information from there.
The strange thing is that the address doesn't get spammed, well one in the past month isn't bad, yet I've received some seven virus.
I am currently in contact with the abuse department over at pol.co.uk so hopefully if it is somebody playing "silly buggers" they will soon be stopped in their tracks.
Other than that it is quite a private address, supplied to family & friends and although is the address I use to register with such forums as this I always check the "Hide real e-mail address" option.

On well, just have to see how it goes.
It isn't a problem, Norton 2002 has stopped every single one without a hitch, just frustating thinking seven people want to talk to me when in fact all they want to do is attempt to make my life a misery smile

On my win98 machine I had a lot of problems latley. I got opasoft virus also calles brasil. I don't know where it came from, but it didn't come through the mail. My firewall didn't notice a thing. (tiny personal firewall) I need a better firewall, but I don't like norton. I heard sygate is good, what do you recommend.

Just got an e-mail back from the abuse department over at pol.co.uk
They have confirmed that one of their users did indeed send a virus and not just to me.
Although they say the person in question probably didn't know he was doing so - good old "mail myself" virus.
Anyway, on the back of the e-mails and headers I forwarded to them they have locked two of their accounts, they will be unable to send any e-mail until they have contacted pol.co.uk to confirm they are virus free.

I'm personally not 100% convinced the person didn't know about it, but a result never the less.
