If you're using w98 the best is to shutdown or even pull the power cable (cos on shutdown win writes stuff to disk that can overwrite your deleted files) The boot from a floppy or a cd and type "lock" and answer yes. Then use undelete in your recycled directory, which is hidden. I like to use norton's unerase for dos. Got it from some old norton utilities version. When you're using ntfs partitions you can forget about this type of recovering.
Does anyone know where you can find the files, when you get a word document in a mail and select open it when clicking on it. Then you do some editing and after a while you close the file and word asks you to save it and you select yes, but the mail program deletes it after the program (word) is closed. It should be in c:\windows\temp directory, but if I undeleted I couldn't find anything of use. Now I selected make backup copies in word and my computer is full of *.wbk files. 8). Any idea how to hide them? Thnx

There are two excellent Commerical programs that I'm aware of that will solve your problem: Mijenix SystemSuite or Norton SystemWorks. The Mijenix title is much better for undeleting. Norton's UnErase treats users like idiots and searches all their drives and then lists every file every deleted that's no longer in the recycle bin. The SystemSuite Version will let you specify which drives to search (much faster) and what filespec to display for example *.doc for word documents (much easier to locate your deleted file). You might try tucows.com for a freeware alternative, but really you can pick up a good copy of SystemSuite 3.0 for about 5-10 bucks so who cares if it costs a little. For that Try Ebay or Half.com. Good Luck, Christian

Norton System works will do the trick, but as others have hinted at---it sucks. I refuse to install Systemworks on any of my PCs ever again because it ends up "fixing" things that are fine. If you just need an undelete util, NSW is a waste (well...it kinda is to begin with)

Hello,
EASEUS DataRecoveryWizard utility can help. Speaking about me, it was easily able to restore deleted, lost file and unformat drive, so I think you will also find it quite useful. Really recommended tool, give it a try.
