hp scanjet 3400c

My hp scanjet 3400C gives only a blank, black output. What cud be the problem. Any solutions ???

Is the lid down? Does the light source move up/down scanner?
Is there anything on the scanner glass top?

If under warranty take it back to shop otherwise get a new one...
